vwpint Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 Is there any sight where i can order it to estonia to my house?(bad english). Quote
DLuders Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 (edited) @ vwpint: This webpage sells the Lego Technic 9398 4x4 Crawler, and ships to all European Union countries (like Estonia). Use this online translator to copy/paste the German text into Estonian. Edited July 27, 2012 by DLuders Quote
Lipko Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 (edited) Holy sh*t! For some reason I thought this set will be a limited series set that I either can only get for a horrible prize or can't get at all in my country. Now I see it's all over in the shops, it's more available and cheaper than the Unimog. Going to get this. Edited July 27, 2012 by Lipko Quote
BasOne Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 I just finished building and driving it around a bit and all i can say it's AWESOME My only peeves are that it's a bit slow for my tastes and there is no. how do you say it 'gradients', it's either stop or go, no half speed, steering as wel, full or none, i'd like to have seen more control over the actual driving. You should try the train remote. With train remote, you can control driving and steering in seven different speeds. Edited July 30, 2012 by Povratnik Quote

DLuders Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 (edited) @ davidmull: The 8879 LEGO® Power Functions IR Speed Remote Control costs €13,99 on the Irish Shop.Lego.com website, while on Bricklink the (identical) 64227 "Electric, Power Functions IR Speed Remote Control Unit with Dark Bluish Gray Base" is for sale at a lower cost. Hi David I use the 8879 controller it is far better than the two stick remote. This is mine, LDD file attached. Be interesting to see other versions of this controller. 8879 Contrl-GreyV1.lxf Quote

Be interesting to see other versions of this controller. Futher to my last post I have improved the throttle response by changing the gearing. attached It should be possible to remove the click stops on the 8879 controller that would make it even better to use with the 9398. Looking forward to others with 8879 controllers ideas. 8879 Contrl-Full-Range.lxf Edited July 29, 2012 by Paul P Quote
MPA Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Thanks a million for this review and the tip about the diff. My seven-year-old son was distraught after spending Christmas day and the best part of Boxing day building and ending up with the wheels going in opposite directions . Daddy´s job was to sort out the problem and stop the tears before bed-time! Without the review Dad would have been at a loss to spot the mechanical cause of the problem, and would have ended up re-wiring the contacts on one of the motors to change the direction of rotation - I would never have spotted the problem without the hint..... instead we will fix the diff problem tomorrow morning. Only problem being that sonny said he intends to wake up at 5:30 am to get the job done and can´t understand why Dad wants to sleep when its holidays..... Quote
Bubble Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 I have a choice... I can either get this set or the motorized excavator from a couple years back. Which one should I buy? Quote
DLuders Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 @ Bubble: Get the 8043 Motorized Excavator -- it's out of production now and is much more fun than the 9398 4x4 Crawler set (which is still in production). Quote
CisFran Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 I have a choice... I can either get this set or the motorized excavator from a couple years back. Which one should I buy? Get the 8043 motorized excavator first since it is already discontinued, though be prepared to pay much higher price. Is 8043 still available in your place? 9398 is much cheaper and still available in Lego.com, most toy stores and ebay. Quote

I don't know where you're from, but TRU in the USA has the 8043 marked down to $199. (They basically took off their mark-up.) Quote
Bubble Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 (edited) Is 8043 still available in your place? Lucky me, my local TRU has 3 or 4 left at $219.99 each I don't know where you're from, but TRU in the USA has the 8043 marked down to $199. (They basically took off their mark-up.) That is just an online sale, I found out the hard way when I was going to buy the Shellraiser at a TRU store very close to where my dad lives, but I only had enough money to pay RRP(regular retail price), and it turned to be there at $79.99, so I ended up getting the 9395 Pick-up Tow Truck at the time. @ Bubble: Get the 8043 Motorized Excavator -- it's out of production now and is much more fun than the 9398 4x4 Crawler set (which is still in production). Thanks for the advice DLuders, and the excavator was already what I thought would be better, but the crawler has the new PF pieces, and that would be a big jump for my PF collection and at this point I ony have 2 M-motors & 2 battery boxes Edited February 24, 2013 by Bubble Quote

I looked for it in the list of Technic sets AND TRU exclusives, but I can not find it EDIT: I found it I really can only get this set any time past May, because the money I have I wanted to take to Brickfair NE with me in case I find anything interesting Edited February 24, 2013 by Bubble Quote
ed tom Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Does anyone know what the switch positions on the battery box are there for? I have three positions: left (on) center (off) and right (on). Why the 2 on positions? Much rather have a high/low speed choice..... Quote

The two on positions are for different directions if a motor is directly connected, it doesnt alter the direction if a receiver is used though Quote
Moyalmas Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Bought my second 9398 set and... got these rims ( Part 15038) instead of the usual ones (Part 44772c02). After a quick search, it looks like some 8110 and 9398 have these parts. Anyway... got myself a new set of rims eheheheh Quote
Trawler Man Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 This is currently priced at $160.98 at the Toys 'r Us Ebay Store and the official Toys 'r Us website. Great set. Get it while you can! Quote
bjorkan Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 My grandson just came with the problem, battery is dead :( after about a year not playing with it, I took a Lego Instruction Book and spent about ten minutes to try to find how to change the batteries, then turned on the computer, Google, "Lego 9398 changing batteries", got this address and -- it is working again :) thanks, some this never get too old Quote
Jim Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Great you got it solved!! But be careful with bumping an old topic just to say you replaced the batteries Quote
