MOC: LEGO Colosseum

You are so wrong on so many things it is not funny.

I have been to the colosseum on a bus tour of Europe.

I enjoyed the experience of visiting this ancient building.

On the way back up the hill to get to the tour bus, I was harassed on 4 occasions by 'ladies' who could show me a quick good time; maybe it is my good looks or maybe I was on my own as the group moved up the hill.

We also were encouraged by many beggars to support their families.

Before we got off the bus to walk down the hill, the tour guide reminded us to secure our wallets as pickpockets were at work in the area. It was interesting to note that there were a number of people standing about being spoken to by the police in front of agitated tourists.

As for cars and buses in the area, the photo on Romabricks?? says it all.

Perhaps you should have heeded the advice of your mate and been careful as to how you responded.

The colosseum by reload is a fantastic MOC. As an Italian you should be proud that an AFOL has brought such a wonderful ancient ruin to life via LEGO.

I look forward to seeing your MOC of the colosseum.

So I have been going that way TWO times per day for 6 years and never met some of this 'ladies'. So sorry, but I honestly do not believe that.

This happens every city of the world, but I would have liked really to see you commenting the very same fact on other MOCs. Which you didn't.

So you have experienced dozen of pickpockets. I believe that since your speaks, you got back to your country in your birthday suit. Or perhaps nobody pickpocketed you anything? In my life the only time I have been lifted was in LONDON UK, never happened in Rome, and I please to remember you that I did that path twice per day for 6 years.

I have never build a Coliseum MOC, nor never will I, I don't really get why you think I'm building one.

You are speaking of things you don't know, and you should watch your words and your post before starting a fight and offending people you really don't know.

I just let it go the part on which you believe to know about a place by having visited it ONCE before it's really self-explanatory.

I instead thank you for having apologized about insulting a population with your stereotypes, which probably welcomed you with all honours in our beautiful country.

I am an easy person, I really am here to enjoy my favourite toys, but I think everyone has something that annoys oneself if insulted. For me, that is my city, Rome. I don't like anybody who doesn't even know it to insult it. Maybe they can insult the italian parliament, I am the first to do it, or even ME, before I get that outraged... but not my city. I am so proud of being a roman you can't really tell. So I believe everybody should watch their words before making a comment that is clearly giving a bad (and FALSE) view on something people don't know very well. If even one person thought there are really prostitutes wandering around the coliseum, he succeeded and my rage was motivated.

Plus, that was really gratuit and bad taste. I have been in dozens of foreign country and I respect those people, I would never start a list of the no-goes of that country. And believe me, any country has its ones.

Itaria No Shintaku - whether or not the things discussed are true or not (I've never been there, so can't say from experience) it boils down to this: what does it matter what some random guy on the Internet says about your city/country? Answer: it doesn't. There's no point in getting upset, because it achieves nothing. I see weird/untrue/stereotyped stuff foreigners post about Finland all the time, and if anything I get a good laugh out of them even though they are easily interpreted as highly insulting. Meanwhile the planet keeps spinning like it always does.

And more on the topic, it's a fantastic MOC. Anyone saying bad things about it is indeed most likely simply jealous.

Excellent Moc reload ! The size, detail, techiques .... love it all ! I especially appriciate the arches and the curve of the arena!. Also missed you at BW, but our paths will cross again in the future!

I had a EB friend of mine e-mail me that sadly the model has not been well received in Italy by LEGO fans based there. I am really very sorry to disappoint you, i certainly meant no offence in building it the way I did.

Some questions that he translated and asked me;

How long did the project take;

I had 5 weeks from start of build to get it build and shipped interstate. so about 4 weeks to plan and build it.

Why did I build it in white?

I chose white because of the very short time frame, I didn't have enough Tan available, plus the museum that it is located in is relatively dark, thus were very comfortable with it in white.

Personally as a representation I think it looks great it white, particularly as it is in a dark museum.

Some parts do not look correct on it;

Its not designed to be a 100% accurate scale model, it is LEGO, after all the emperor is in the pope mobile! It is my artistic version, and given I also chose to do half old style and half ruins I think that kind of distinguishes that its not a 100% prototype.

I'm pretty sure that if you asked a thousand people what it is, that all thousand would say exactly what it was.

As for the other questions about my poor skills and chosen profession, I think ill leave those unanswered.

Hi reload, I'm sorry that you have read this criticism (that I also did on romabrick's and on itlug's forums) without know why some things was told, and I hope that my poor english will explain it.

It's a year that the most of italian active Afols knows that in Rome there are some people that are trying to build a Lego-Colosseum without send pics to other afols ( ), and in Italy there is a playful rivalry from roman afols and northern afols, so we were hoping to surprise our friends. So some replies was for them, to explain some differences with the real Colosseum to other italian afols that comes from far places and to creating more suspense about our work, not really to say bad things about your moc! Probably your italian contact hasn't understand why we wrote some note about it.

In the last weekend I was in the Italian meeting of Ballabio and I say to all my friend that the yours was a very nice moc, we don't discuss about it or about your skills as builder that we appreciate a lot! We have a little forum that we mainly use to organize our afols' nights, we didn't expect that we did so many "noise" and arrive to your hears, and paradoxically this is a success for us, so thanks to your friend...

We need a lot of time before complete our playful quest, but this isn't a problem, we have a lot of fun every week with our evenings and for us build the Colosseum is a dream, because is the most famous symbol of our city. Because this 3d version is a life's work that surely we don't finish in just a year, we did as replacement a mosaic to present in the last "Itlug Latina 2012" (29th April - 1st May 2012) that is also on flickr:

I'm one of organizer of "Itlug Latina 2013" (25th - 28th April 2013), so if you'll like to come in this "dangerous" city of Rome and be our guest few nights in the near Latina we'll come to airport to take you (we hope with a little moc of yours ) to our show. In private, we can also show you our works, but we don't need to share it with other people now, I'm sure you can understand that we are only jealous of our ideas (as the Corinthian capital).

That is a very impressive piece. The overall attention to detail and the flow is awesome. One thing I like is that it provides a constant interest no matter where you look. It is n ot over done in the least. When you say it took a month to complete, is that 8 hours a day of what?

I saw this a little while ago on Twitter. It's awesome! Like everyone else, I love how it has half modern and half historical, sort of like visiting a place like that and imagining what it must have looked like back then.
