The LOTR sets seem to be very popular.

Although LOTR is fiction, there is a great interest in the 'historical' details.

It got me thinking about the possibility of LEGO developing a series of sets based on Shakespeare's great plays.

When I was in my teens and studying these plays, there were a series of 'comics' that depicted the classics. These comics were sold out as soon as they arrived in the paper shop.

I feel that a series on Shakespeare would have similar results as all young people [and older ] would buy the sets to get the mood of the times.

Just imagine Hamlet's castle high on a hill in Denmark or Macbeth's castle amongst the heather in Scotland.

The Richards' would lend themselves to great advanced building sets.

That won't happen, unless a hit movie about one of his plays is produced. Still it's a nice idea.

Pretty much. The only other thing is that we are talking about a lot of the "history" plays constituting the known canon, it will probably go against LEGO's "no non-fantasy violence."

Sadly I can't see Lego developing these, but it is a great idea for a series of MOCs.

Thanks for the idea :)

I have seen the 70s MacBeth movie recently and I have to say, very bad idea to turn it into a Lego theme.

Not much action at all. Lots of treachery and backstabbing. And no real heroic protagonist - the main character is pretty much a dick.

Compare to LoTR, where as many as 4 characters can be seen as a heroic primary protagonist (Frodo, Sam, Aragorn, Gandalf)

Gotta agree with others, I don't see this ever being a fully fleshed out wave or series of Lego sets. I could maybe see someone making one really iconic scene into a single CUUSOO set, but that's as far as it would prolly go.

Like others have mentioned, Shakespear just don't have the same appeal as LotR. There are no epic battles or huge multi-million dollar films made after the books. The forces of good and evil arn't quite as clear and they probably wouldn't have near as much appeal to the younger crowd (pre-teen and early teen). At least with LotR you get some crazy figures like the Cave Troll and orcs which kids will love regardless if they have seen the movies or not.

I just chuckled at that for about a half hour. (I'm a theatre director by trade.)

Really? Interesting. I took some acting classes recently. I'm looking for full theatre plays, in english or french (preferably both), of Lord of the Rings, in text format. txt, pdf, doc: found NOTHING so far on the net. Would you care to help me with that?
