Duck Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 (edited) Hi folks, first of all I apologise if anyone feels this is the incorrect forum for such a topic? I've also tried searching but with little success. I'm currently looking into building a roman-style army - however price is being a bit of an issue. The CMF roman is fantastic but at £4ish a pop its expensive. I've managed to get some cobi roman helmets quite cheap which dont look bad, particually the centurion one. I figure customising shields shouldnt be too hard but finding romanesque torso's with a similar style of armour has me stumped - I'd prefer to have genuine lego torsos as opposed to printing and so has anyone got any suitable torsos that they can suggest that would work out cheaper than ordering the CMF's? Thanks! Duck Edited July 1, 2012 by Duck Quote

You could try the Kingdoms lion knight archer body. (With chainmail.) The red would look good, and despite popular belief, most Roman soldiers wore chainmail instead of Lorica Segmentata. (I forget the source. ) Quote
ACPin Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Even cheaper to use stickers for the torsos as I've done in other MOCs. Just have the real minifigs for the officers and those in front. AC Quote

AC Good call AC. You could also TRADE for some Romans perhaps. Go to the buy/sell/trade forum and see if you can strike a deal. Quote
Duck Posted July 2, 2012 Author Posted July 2, 2012 Thanks for the ideas folks! Once my army is completed It'll hopefully feature in a brickflick - so this is why I'm not too keen on using decals as they might become too obvious. I'll have a play however! Thanks! Quote
ACPin Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 blank ones with decals? If you're using water slide decals, then yes. Good call AC. You could also TRADE for some Romans perhaps. Go to the buy/sell/trade forum and see if you can strike a deal. Good luck on that! Thanks for the ideas folks! Here's what I've used decals for these and these. AC Quote
ZCerberus Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Good luck on that! There may be some one posting in this very thread with a BUNCH of Romans he would to trade for the right pieces... Just saying... Quote

Or hit some stores that may still have them as I've managed to find a couple of boxes in a TRU a couple of weeks ago. AC Quote

AC You can still find them at a few TRUs for sure. You'll have to spend some time feeling for spears. Just don't pay the 10.00 on Bricklink. Trading can be good if you want something they have and they want something you won't miss. Quote
jFox Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 As for decals, I saw this set on Brickforge which has a fair amount of torso decals for cheap: http://www.brickforge.com/store/product.php?productid=16649&cat=440&page=1. I've never purchased decals from Brickforge so can't make any claims as to their quality, but might be worth a look. Quote

When I was reading the topic, that's the first one I thought. It'll be a lot cheaper too. Quote
tedbeard Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 I like these older torsos which are cheaper than the CMF Romans: Quote
Huntleyfx Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 I like these older torsos which are cheaper than the CMF Romans: I like the torso for Romans a lot, but I think there might be a better piece for the legs...the Slave Leia just looks ever so slightly off. Quote

Those look cool, however its a bit annoying that there are only two of each colour, which is great for variation of course (Blue or green roman soldiers would be more unique! RTW style huzzar!) but to make any substantial number of troops wont come in much cheaper than getting CMF's - They do look good however! Quote
