July 19, 201212 yr I see now why the non-Avengers Marvel Super Heroes sets are so generic: the X-Men movies were produced by Fox and the Spiderman movies were produced by Sony and the Lego License is with Marvel Studios. So how does Disney fit in with the Marvel license now that Disney owns marvel? TLC has secured both the Disney license and the marvel one. And why did Harry Potter have to end? I know the movies are done but it could have potential like SW. So many sets possibilities.

So many sets possibilities. Harry Potter, unlike Star Wars, is not a merchandising behemoth. After the last Harry Potter movie left theaters, most of the merchandise disappeared from store shelves. Kids just weren't as interested. Compare that to Star Wars, which survived for many years after Return of the Jedi solely on merchandising and expanded-universe novels. Harry Potter has largely faded from the public consciousness, so even if sets were made, they certainly wouldn't sell as well as they had when the movies were there to create hype.
July 19, 201212 yr Though I have more Star Wars stuff (mainly OT), my favourite licenses are without any doubt Indiana Jones and Prince of Persia. I am not the biggest fan of the PoP movie, and definitely am not familiar with the video game, but I just loved the sets for the sets themselves: beautiful palace, nice color combinations, introduction of new pieces and animals.. interesting minifigs.. And though not always very movie accurate, I think that the range of sets is more or less complete. I dont have the feeling that there is realy something missing. IJ is another story though.. not only are there some main characters who were never released, (Sallah, Brody, colonel Vogel...) but there are also some key scenes that most fans where hoping for, that never saw their ABS version.. There is just to much that was left untouched to mention here. Not only vehicles, planes etc, but also buildings and even animals.. Imo they could have made easily the double of amount of sets, without having to make repeats or relying on more obscure scenes.. Of course, Lego IJ was marketed because of the IJ Skull movie, while maybe the most potentialy interesting stuff can be found in the original trilogy. But hey, the same happened with Star Wars. And in SW they didnt only cover the most iconic ships and characters, even made multiple repeats of them, but even obscure stuff gets sometimes (undeserved?) attention in that line.
July 26, 201212 yr Author The game franchise had no involvement with the license. The Lego sets were strictly based on the Disney movie, since Disney does not own the rights to the franchise, just the movie rights. Because there is no current plans for a sequel, it makes sense for Lego to have made it a one-wave release, just like they did with Speed Racer (a theme you left out). And as for Spider-Man, the new sets are with the Marvel license. Lego has not made a new license with Sony as far as I know, so they can't make sets based on the new movie. Speed Racer's original Japaneses anime was made in 1970 and remade in 1997. Though Speed Racer was indeed based on that movie, it's hardly to ask them to make cartoom set because of the time and Japan-only license. And actually LEGO almost never made themes that directly based on "games". The topic here is just about the completeness of a story.

Lego could have made sets based on the show if they wanted to because they already were in dealings with Nickalodeon. And actually LEGO almost never made themes that directly based on "games". Duh, that's what I said. It was in response to your misconception of the Prince of Persia license. "If we talk about the game title, this theme didn't make other scenes and characters (eg, Kaileena) from the sequels of games. But the LEGO theme stress mainly on the adapted story of the Disney movie. We're not sure if LEGO should also make use of game materials, or only if Disney would love to shoot sequels." Lego wasn't using game material or even using it as a resource. All the sets are based on the movie -only-. The only way for more sets to be made is if they make a sequel to the movie. -Omi

Lego could have made sets based on the show if they wanted to because they already were in dealings with Nickalodeon. -Omi Nickelodeon owning the rights may have made it easier for Lego to make sets based on the show, but they probably didn't see it as being practical to continue the theme. The movie had been just about the only thing keeping the franchise in the public consciousness, especially for the kids who were the theme's target audience. When that flopped, it meant that Speed Racer went largely to being what it had been before: a show admired primarily by adults who had lived through its original run, and a smaller, younger audience that appreciated the series for its retro charm. But for the kids who drag their parents to the Lego aisle, there was nothing especially appealing about the series (especially compared to modern, ongoing franchises like Spongebob or Harry Potter). So instead of continuing the theme, Lego dropped it. And then two years later they came up with World Racers, a theme in the same "sci-fi racing" genre, but without the licensing costs associated with the Speed Racer line.
July 31, 201212 yr Author Harry Potter was the only licensed theme I have any sets of (I do have a few Star Wars minifigures, but that's it for that theme ), so that's the theme I miss the most. We still never got any Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw uniforms! There were also a bunch of sets they didn't make; I really wanted a new Chamber of Secrets and clock tower for the new modular Hogwarts of 2010/2011. It's a pity that Luna had no uniform, and only Cedric was a notable Hufflepuff but the Triwizard Tournament didn't have bricks
