SheepEater Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 They didn't leave out Thorin, I believe ths minifig lineup is from the bag end set, Not just randomly put together. But EVERY dwarf was present at Bag End!
CMP Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 But EVERY dwarf was present at Bag End! So you want the price to be boosted 50 bucks for 15 minifigs? TLG's being realistic, they can't do every dwarf in one set.
SheepEater Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 So you want the price to be boosted 50 bucks for 15 minifigs? TLG's being realistic, they can't do every dwarf in one set. Well, Thorin has to be in it! He's the leader, and is absolutely crucial to the first scene!
Falconer Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 There are quite a few characters crucial to the Balin’s Tomb scene that aren’t included in the LEGO set.
Legonardo Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 The Hobbit (movie) release date one of those things you love about living in NZ (we still haven't got LOTR though)
Deathleech Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 There are quite a few characters crucial to the Balin’s Tomb scene that aren’t included in the LEGO set. Plus I don't want twenty of every dwarf in the Hobbit. I would rather they only have each of them in 1-2 sets and use the minifigure space for other figs like more goblins or baddies.
Fives Posted July 10, 2012 Author Posted July 10, 2012 So you want the price to be boosted 50 bucks for 15 minifigs? TLG's being realistic, they can't do every dwarf in one set. We could also take the appearance of Dwalin, Bombur, Bofur and Balin as a hint to some of the dwarves who might have more important roles in that scene of the film. Its like with the Moria set: all of the Fellowship was there, but who had the most memorable parts in the scene, such as Pippin and the well or Legolas fighting the troll. Also, I think some of these dwarves might get thrown in sets just because they need to go somewhere, like Merry in the Weathertop set.
SheepEater Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 (edited) Well, I could see Lego not wanting to have the 3 main characters of the story (Bilbo, Gandalf, Thorin) in the same set , unless it's an expensive set. And yes, I agree, some dwarves (ESPECIALLY Bofur, who's played by James Nesbitt, very well known actor in the UK) might have expanded roles in the film. I have just finished reading the book, so it's fresh in my mind, and from memory I can't even name one scene or one line from these or one instance where these six dwarves have any relevance: Dwalin, Oin, Ori, Nori, Bifur, Bofur. Gloin gets one line in Bag End. I can't even remember anything else from him for the rest of the story. I expected much more from Gimli's dad. Balin gets lots of attention. Definitely the most important (and most mentioned) dwarf next to Thorin. Fili and Kili act the scouts of the group quite often. And they are among the 3 dwarves who don't survive the adventure. Dori is very important around the Goblin/Wolves/Eagle part of the story (he saves Bilbo quite often), then vanishes from relevance around when the party meets Beorn. Bombur is the comic relief of the story. Tolkien loves to say "poor fat Bombur is coming last again". Edited July 10, 2012 by SheepEater
Wardancer Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 This might be old and irrelevant news, but I have seen LOTR sets in Germany yesterday.
CorneliusMurdock Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Pardon me but the "Somewhere to discuss release dates and availability" is in the discussion thread for the theme. There is absolutely no reason for a second thread for this. I'm locking this thread.
