Capn Frank Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 NOOO Phred, Russel Crowe requested that a live size acheron statue would be put in his back yard.... O I C It all makes sense to me now :-/ Maybe i should be more specific in my question. Ahem :-/ Mr. Tiber, Is that a pic of the actual archeron or a pic of the one in Master and Commander. P Quote
Scouty Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 They did the Entire top deck for Pirates. It's possible this one is just like the one in Potc where there is only a deck and an outer casing? Your moc, good job, looking good! Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted March 8, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted March 8, 2007 Mr. Tiber, while searching Wikipedia I found some useful info on the Archeron: In the movie, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, the fictional French frigate Acheron was computer modeled after the Constitution, using a stem to stern digital image scan of the real Old Ironsides. Wikipedia USS Constitution (look in the section "Constitution in literature, film, and popular culture"). Quote
Norrington Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 Well Bones-apart I see that they are allmost the same, look: It looks like they just recoloured the Constitution and it's flags... Quote

Indeed Mr. Norrington. It's interesting to see the 2 ships in the same angle. The are really almost identical. Quote
John S Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 it's just, it looks a litle to wide to be the acheron, so i 'd see if i could experiment with a smaller hull. my impesion was that it was thin, but tALL, and thats how it has all that stuff in the movie. I have to agree. The ship is a tall not wide ship. Maybe if you made a custom base to accomodate a wider upper hull... I never got any of the pre-fab bases, so i have to make custom hulls. Quote
ZCerberus Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 Ah, noo Double post!Well, I made a MLCAD model of a cross section of the how I want to build the ship. It's just a very rough model... If you want to experiment with the file, you can download it here. The problem is the ship got quite high like this... so I don't know how much mid-sections I need to make this ship look good... Mr Tiber at this point you could basically forget the prefabbed hulls!! This disadvantage would be no prefabbed bow or stern though. Quote
zouave Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 The Arechon was never a real ship?!Master and Commander had me fooled. Quote
Norrington Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 (edited) The Arechon was never a real ship?!Master and Commander had me fooled. No. The Acheron was a literary invention of Patrick O'Brian, and even then, it's not really his. For the Master and Commander movie the Acheron takes the place of the Dutch ship-of-the-line. The Surprise takes the place of the HMS Leopard. Edited June 21, 2007 by Norrington Quote

I realized the same thing a little after i asked about that pic. At the time i asked if that was the real archeron in the pic, i was looking and not able to find info on the real archeron. I found a Washington Post article about how they computer modeled the Archeron in Master and Commander after the USS Constitution. *y* USS Constitution finds a new role P Quote
