Just got one of these from my girlfriend for an anniversary present (best. girlfriend. ever.) I hadn't looked at the set before but after reading the review I can't wait to build it!

My girlfriend got me one for Christmas. I bought a second and third copy after building the first. Great set!!

Enjoy!

My son and I finished building this one last night. We're having some difficulty with driving the main rotor. The gear on the ratchet piece seems to be getting bound up, pushing it to a bit of an angle and then it starts skipping. The rachet works perfectly when turning the drive the other direction, lifting the gear up out of the way.

Has anyone else had this binding? I can't see what we might have done wrong...

The ratchet is intended to do this. It shall drive the rotor only in one direction. In the opposite direction it will start "skipping", it basically acts as a simple clutch.

The purpose is to protect the gearing when using a motor. The motor (e.g. 5292) can spin the blades quite fast, giving them a high momentum and as Newton's Laws of Motion postulate, an object wants to stay in its state, the blades will continue to rotate even if the motor is switched of.

Having a static connection to the motor would hurt the gears and axles very much.
