I just wanted to ask, what is the classic, classic space minifig color? I'm going to say yellow, but what do you think?

It's light grey

Light grey bricks'n'plates (in larger quantities) was first introduced with that theme. Pretty much all of the early classic space components was also light grey

As an avid Neo Classic Space builder, I would definitially say red or white. Those are definitially the classic ones, having appeared before any other space minifigures came about. I said red because they appeared the most, and make better pilots than the white ones

I think many people are misreading the post to think it's the classic classic space color, not minifigures color.

The very first classic space figures wore red or white suits when the line debuted in 1978. Yellow, blue and black suits came later- I think black was the last. I've read somewhere that initially the designers envisaged the red and white spacemen might represent competing factions (any guesses as to who the red guys were comrades?), but this never really took off. I used to pretend that the red spacemen were technicians and the white ones pilots...

I remember Reading that too. I think the idea behind this was, that the white guys would be US astronauts and the red ones UDSSR cosmonauts. So I agree with red and white.

By the way, I liked the pink astronaut girl in CMF series 6. I wish they would produce some more astronauts in modern colors like Sand green, dark bluish grey and purple. But if they ever do with air tanks please! How cool is a pink astronaut girl without any pink air tanks available?

I voted for red since it seems like the most common- I remember the first few Classic Space sets I got all had red minifigures. When I finally started getting the white ones I held them in higher regard and were usually the ones in command. They, however were demoted once the black figures showed up- I thought the black ones were really cool. For some reason I always associate the yellow ones with driving. I guess because their first appearance were in vehicles. I regarded the blue ones as Commanders since they were pretty rare, although I have quite a few these days.

But yes, red is the color that jumps in my mind when I think of Classic Space Minifigures.

And the colors I see when I think of Classic Space in general are blue and grey!

It has also been said that red & white were used as the original release because they are the national colours of Denmark.

I would consider TLG place white ahead of red due to the white classic space statue minifig that appeared in Space Police 3. Also, it was the only one they didn't reuse for Futuron.

Interesting, I always thought that they were just random choices for colors.

Also, I don't think that the statue was white because they regard the white color higher. I think that's because it looks more "statue-like."

The way I remember is that yes, red and white were first. Then came skin-coloured (which oddly has been misinterpreted as yellow :D ). Blue and black came at the same time.

Back then, I really assumed they would do grey next. Instead, we got Futuron. :)

I said blue, as it is the one that was re-released most recently, red, because it was one that appeared first, and black, simply because it's my favourite.

Red and white - introduced 1979 - Yellow was third in 1982 and Blue'n'Black are youngest, 1984.

I have to agree that red & white both classic. I think these colors stood out the most with the original color scheme of blue and grey with trans yellow. In 1982 yellow was introduced and blue and black were introduced in 1984. There is a small possibility the yellow minifig was available earlier via a minif fig pack. Link:
