Rune Haako Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 I wonder if the Phase I clones have TCW clone faces?
TheLegoDr Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 Thank you TLG! My shopping list is getting smaller, therefore saving money for other themes. I wasn't planning on getting the A wing because I don't care about ships, but the figure line-up to a noob SW collector like myself will be a must have. And the Rancor Pit, of course. Otherwise, I think I can pass. I was waiting on the BPs, but I'm not too keen on them, so this is good. Now, just wait, the summer SW wave will blow me away and I won't have any money for it.. oh well, one step at a time. Thanks for the pics!
wesker Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 AT-RT - The set itself looks very well designed, but far too oversized. The new Phase 2 clone looks good and sniper droideka isn't bad, but its a shame Yoda is still the CW version. Clone Battle Pack - Good to see the Phase 1 clones will still be made available. The droidekas are an improvement over previous versions, but still take a bit of time to get used to. Maybe its the angle but the proportions do seem a bit odd. Headhunter - Very nice ship. Shame there isn't a decent shot of Krell. Umbaran MHC - Amazing! Possibly my favourite of the wave. Updated Ahsoka looks quite nice along with the Phase 2 clone. Would have been better though if she had her shorter yellow lightsaber instead of 2 greens ones. I really hope to see more Umbaran vehicles in the future. BARC - Decent set but nothing spectacular. Phase 2 Rex looks nice. Really love the new Obi-Wan. Hopefully the ROTS version will start using this costume as the one from the Jedi Interceptor does look a little plain in comparison. A-Wing - Like this year's X-Wing, not a huge lot of difference over the previous version but still a great looking set. The new A-Wing pilot looks fantastic. While I'm a little disapointed we're not getting an Endor Han, an update of his regular costume is welcome as the previous torso design was far too dated. TOR Battle Pack - Nice figures, crappy set. Not very familiar with the game so at best I'll only pick up one of these during a sale. While a decent wave of sets, I have to say my biggest gripe is the lack of variety. Just about every set here is clone centric. Why only 2 OT sets? Where is TPM? Even looking at solely at the TCW series - something based on the Nightsisters, the Slavers arc, Mon Calamari or even another Mandalorian themed set would be better than just clones, clones and even more clones. Still we haven't seen the store exclusives yet so there's still hope. I will say I do like the new packaging. Very reminisant of Hasbro's action figure lines from the 90s and early 00s.
Bilbo Baggins Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 I really like that box art and those new clones.
Oky Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 Wow, thanks Lego-Freak! These sets are beautiful! The AT-RT and droideka are ridiculously oversized, but they look great and come with a 501st trooper! The Umbarran MHC has to be my favorite though. I think I'd get that one even if it didn't have such great figs. The TOR BP and Headhunter are great too, just how I thought they'd be. Too bad there was no good picture of Krell. The clone trooper BP is a disappointment though. The control center is tiny, the Droidekas are ugly, and the clones aren't the Phase II clones I was hoping for. They don't even have leg printing. Oh well, maybe in 2014. The BARC speeder looks oversized and ugly too, and I was almost sure wouldn't buy it, but that leg-printed Obi-Wan and Phase II Rex are going to be hard to pass up. The A-Wing looks good, but I have no interest in it and the only new fig in that set, the pilot, looks weird to me. In all seriousness, all of the figures look great, the only larger set I like is the cannon, can't wait to see it in action. You really need to watch Season 4. At least the Umbarra arc.
THENOOB Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 The one thing I dislike is the Umbarran figures. As I remember, their helmets had a greenish tinge. I in my mind the better part to replace that piece, would be with an Instectoid helmet.
JackJonespaw Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 Oh man, these figs are amazing! I've completely fallen in love with Han's jacket! And Obi-Wan's clothes are amazing!
mysteriouspi Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 Love the pics; LEGO's put a lot of effort into this wave. AT-RT: Oversized, of course, but very well done. I love the feet especially. Not keen on the sniper droideka, though. New CT design is nice as well. AotC BP: Nice Phase I clone design, and finally some droidekas that are more realistically sized. But why are people complaining about the lack of leg printing? It wasn't many years ago that leg printing was quite rare. Z-95: This one's about average, but still cool. The nose seems off but the rest of the set is fine, and I like the new pilot. Will definitely have to change the color scheme to white and black for my film. Umbaran Tank: It's shorter than I expected, but it's so cute! Wish Ahsoka had a yellow blade though. BARC: Indifferent on this one, but it does look good. A-wing: Think I like this one overall, especially the new nose design. The pilot's helmet is cool. TOR BP: Absolutely love the figures, will need to pick up a few of these. Overall, I'm very happy. Just waiting for pictures of the planet sets now.
Anticyclone Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 That AT-RT is HUGE! Too oversized. As for the rest of the sets I'll pass. Maybe I'll get the A-Wing since it's a fav of mine but nothing from Star Wars recently has caught my eye.
Oky Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 I just noticed something... The Phase II helmets don't seem to have holes for visors in them!!! I hope it's just because the pictures are so small since it would be terrible if we wouldn't be able to convert them to commanders. It would make the new mold completely pointless in my opinion. I wonder if the Phase I clones have TCW clone faces? I don't think so. I think they will have the new stormtrooper heads.
North Lego Star Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 Well, those sets look worst than I thought they would... -AT-RT: Lego really messed this one up bad, in my opinion, the AT-RT is way to big, same goes for the Sniper Droideka. It nice to see yoda an a 501st Trooper in a cheap set though, has anyone else noticed that it appears that lego has changed back to the old green blade for the lightsaber by the way? I doubt this will be purchase for me in the end just due to the fact that the AT-RT angers me so much. -Old Republic Battle Pack: This is actually a pretty nice set, I like the design of the Sith Skiff as well as the Republic Troopers, despite this I will not be buying this set simply because I have no interest in the Old Republic sets. -Clone vs. Droideka Battle Pack: Really disappointed in the way this one turned out. I was looking foward to getting some Phase II clones for a sheap price, but I guess that will have to wait till next year or sometime in the future. The Droidekas are the worst design yet but, I really do like the Phase I clones in this set as well as their Command Center, I probally only pick one of these sets up though. My Phase one Army is already big enough. -A-Wing Starfighter: This is a reallly nice set. I love the Design of the A-Wing, how it curves is just great and I love the new A-wing Pilot and the new torso for Han. This is a for sure purchase for me. -The Z-95 Headhunter: Although this is a nice set looking set, I don't really so many features coming out of it( Interesting how the spring firing missile is coming back into sets by the way), the PIlot and Pong Krell looks just great, but I feel like lego could have included maybe a Fives or Dogma instead of another 501st Trooper. I porbally never pick this one up, but I may end up buying Krell on Ebay and buying the Coruscant Planet Set assuming it comes with the Phase II clone pilot. -Republic BARC: This is a really nice. I love how Captain Rex and Obi-Wan Turned out. I also love the detail in the BARC Speeder as well. Lego did a great job with this one. -Umbaran MHC: This is also a great looking set. I love the new Ahsoka and Umbarran Soilders. Is it just me or does the 212th Clone Trooper look a bit more yellow than orange? I hope this isn't how Cody turns out when we get him. I'll probally end up buying this set now since I will probally not buy an of the Super Hero Sets now as well as a second clone vs. Droideka Battle Pack. I also like the Box Art this year. It make the sets stand out more to me and what else can I say otherthan it's Yoda on the Front! Although I thought these sets would be a bit better, I'm still pleased by how they turned out. Thanks For Reading!
TeufelHund Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 It looks like my wallet won't be in much pain next year. I'll buy the Rancor set and maybe a couple of the others for my oldest son but that's it. I hope there's some more OT sets coming in mid-year or a decent UCS because there's not much to recommend about this wave IMO.
Masked Builder Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 You really need to watch Season 4. At least the Umbarra arc. As soon as it comes out on DVD. I remember the cannon picture now though.
Walter Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 I just noticed something... The Phase II helmets don't seem to have holes for visors in them!!! Aren't they just alternate helmets from last year's battlepack without fins and different printing? I hope so, although these look better so it might not be.
Ceroknight Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 Awesome! Love the A-Wing! The rest aren't that exciting, but the AT-RT set is growing on me! Too bad Yoda isn't new... New Clones are a bit disappointing, and the OR Troopers' helmets are a bit too big for my taste (like Iron Man's) The Droikeda variants look nice too!
XimenaPaulina Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 As an AT-RT lover, I'd have to say I love the improved design of the AT-RT despite it being oversized for a minifig. I could really appreciate the effort by the designers to get as much detail as possible in the walker within the confines of playability stability and cost restrictions (of course other AT-RT MOCs are better but employ illegal connections that aren't fit for playability by kids). I agree with another poster than we could call it like a mini-UCS AT-RT. I think the other sets are pretty decent, not too great nor not too bad either. The BPs, A-Wing and BARC speeder sets are good small/medium-sized sets that would be good pick-ups both vehicle- and minifig-wise.
Brickdoctor Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 Thanks for the link, Lego-Freak. The AT-RT is terribly oversized. I'm not happy about that, and I never intended to buy the set anyways, but that is the best AT-RT 'head' that TLG has done so far; slight improvement there. Considering the sizes of some other smaller vehicles, I think I'd rather see the oversized AT-RT than the correctly scaled AT-RT that doesn't look like an AT-RT. All the droideka's look ugly. The clone with the olive green highlights looks great, though. I really like the way TLG changed the printing to transform the CW clone into a Clones clone, but they're the only good thing in that set The vehicle/base thing is even uglier than the droideka's. The Headhunter looks decent. Not really much else from me regarding that set. Another (originally) EU set that I won't be buying. I think TLG did a really nice job using the different slopes, wedges and curved elements to flesh out and shape the Umbaran tank. I have no idea how accurate it is, but I think TLG did a good job with it. Those minifigs look like something recycled from a Space theme, though. The two speeders in the BARC Speeder set don't look they've been changed much, just some more printing/stickers and made a bit skinnier with more use of 1-wide slopes/curved bricks in conjunction with jumpers. The leg printing on Obi-Wan looks terrific, but I doubt that it's worth buying the set just for another Obi-Wan minifig. The A-wing looks much better at first glance, but mostly all it's gotten is some printing/stickering. I'm seeing this all over this wave of sets: an emphasis on stickered/printed details. I don't really like it. Old Republic BP... I've never really paid much attention to the game or the era in general, so I have neither a good nor a bad opinion of the set; it just doesn't interest me. The Rancor Pit - right now, it's the only one I think I'll be buying. More Lord of the Rings sets for me.
DarthPotato Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 Is it just me, or are the battlepacks smaller than usual? I mean, look at the size of TOR battlepack. It's tiny! If they are smaller, hopefully it means a price drop. But the clone one looks about the same size as past ones, so I don't know.
halomaster96 Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 Well at least now I know that the Dark Knight Rises set ISN'T the worst set next year. Other than the Rancor Pit the only thing I like about the sets are those great figures. If there's one that I've wanted for a long time from Lego Star Wars it's getting 501st Clones (also a decent AT-RT, but I see that's not happening)! The best looking set set-wise has to be the Umbaran HMC, that thing looks beautiful! I also like the Headhunter, but I wish there was a good pic of Pong Krell (I can't wait to torture that backstabbing douc...............oh wait did I type that? ). I'm also disappointed with the Clone BP as I was hoping for some generic phase 2 clones and now I'm hoping that Lego stops trying to make a Droideka as everyone after the first one are just terrible. Also am I the only one who thinks that the Old Republic troopers could be used as Clone Commandos?
XimenaPaulina Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 ...I'd rather see the oversized AT-RT than the correctly scaled AT-RT that doesn't look like an AT-RT. Same here, I much prefer having a slightly larger build with more accurate detailing. I wish the same could be said for the correctly-sized but ridiculously-cutesy-looking Tumbler in the DKR set.
Fighter of Frizzies Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 Pretty solid looking A-Wing. Gagged when I saw the flick fires but after comparing it to a few pictures of the movie model, I think the shape of the cannons are well represented, some thickness issues aside (so it will be seen whether I mod it).
Oky Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 Did anyone notice that there are two commando droids in the minifig lineup of the BARC speeder, but only one in both the box art and out of box pics? Probably a mistake. Aren't they just alternate helmets from last year's battlepack without fins and different printing? I hope so, although these look better so it might not be. Yeah, that's what I'm hoping too. Is it just me, or are the battlepacks smaller than usual? I mean, look at the size of TOR battlepack. It's tiny! If they are smaller, hopefully it means a price drop. But the clone one looks about the same size as past ones, so I don't know. Yeah, the TOR BP definitely looks smaller. I only count about 33 pieces whereas other BPs are usually 70-90 pieces. The Clones vs. Droidekas BP has 124 pieces, so a lot more than usual BPs, but since it only has two minifigs and most of the pieces are very small, I don't think it will be more expensive. However, the size of the TOR BP gives me hope that it will be below $10, even though it's the same price as all the other BPs on the website these were posted on. I really hope so because otherwise it would have a terrible price-to-piece ratio (about 1:4!).

I really hope so because otherwise it would have a terrible price-to-piece ratio (about 1:4!). Maybe lowering the price is a viable strategy to entice purchasers to patronize the SWTOR subtheme, which clearly isn't as popular as the movies and the CW series. Or both BPs could have the same price even with the piece count disparity because the TOR BP has one new helmet mold and have much more complex (and expensive) minifig printing than the minimal printing of the 2 clones in the Clone BP.
Oky Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 Or both BPs could have the same price even with the piece count disparity because the TOR BP has one new helmet mold and have much more complex (and expensive) minifig printing than the minimal printing of the 2 clones in the Clone BP. I don't think one new mold is going to justify marking up the price so much. The Elite Clone Trooper BP had a new helmet mold too, plus a new pauldron, a new kama, a new droid head, leg printing, new helmet printing on the ARF trooper, and several pieces in new colors. It also had 98 pieces, one of the highest piece counts of all BPs, and yet it was the same price as any other BP. Therefore, I think it would be very unfair to make the TOR BP way more expensive than it needs to be just because of one helmet and some leg printing. And as you said, it would make it a lot more attractive for people if it was cheaper, even if they're not familiar with TOR.
The_Chosen_1 Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 Overall, it's a pretty lackluster wave. I'm happy that the Obi-Wan and Ahsoka minifigs have gotten an update, but I'm disappointed that there are only 3 movie sets, the rest being from either TOR or TCW.
