I'll buy a few of the droideka packs, but no thanks on the rest. I'm a phase 1 collector so most of these phase 2 clone sets will be avoided by me.

Am I the only one who thinks TOR figs are ugly? Malgus was awesome, but his troopers and these guys are all pretty ugly. I don't know, I guess I just don't play TOR. Personally, of all SW fans and all lego fans, I think people who ACTUALLY play and are familiar with TOR are a very small minority. Making sets around it seem like a waste to me. I'm sure the people who want them are happy, but a lot more people would be happy seeing those sets replaced with movie-based sets.

That box art is great. The deeper green looks alot better than this year's white/blue. Plus, they choose a great classic ROTS pic of Yoda, rather then the strangely posed shot of Maul from this year.

As for the minifigures, it looks like the printing has stepped up - I see good leg printing on Obi-Wan, Han, and the troops. Certainly a good trade-off, as the face printing really can't get much better on minifigures like Han, at least they can add more printing everywhere else. Though pricing might still be a factor.

As for the sets, I'm only interested in less than half of them. Rancor, A-Wing, and the Geonosian Battlepack (though I wish it came with two infantry Clones rather than an infantry and Sergeant Clone). The crab-walker and Old Republic sets look pretty cool, but not in my canon.

In any case, it does give me some time to catch-up with other Star wars sets I'm missing and with LOTR/Hobbit.

I can rely on you to make a sensible positive comment regarding something everyone seems to be dissing over one issue... its scale. I think it looks great.

To me, 75002 is a very competent update of 7250 (I'd call the resemblence between the two models striking). 7250 was recognized as being a bit out of scale when it came out (I think the overall opinion was that it is a pretty good set, though), so I think it cannot be a surprise when people are pointing out that 75002 is at least a bit out scale as well.

This is actually a good wave, but did not require my intense zeal from earlier.

AT-RT: A pretty good set, but it looks like an AT-PT without a roof. :hmpf: I do like Appo and the Commando Droid with white markings. The doideka, however, is probably the best droideka ever made.

Clone/Droideka BP: This is a good set! I like the droidekas, which is the only reason I'll buy this set, since I have too many clones. And is the mini swamp speeder using a similar idea like the small AV-7 from last winter?

Z-95 Headhunter: This ship is pretty accurate to the show (surprise! ). It, however, looks better from the back than the front. Weird. I will also be interested in what connection Krell's head will have to his extra arms.

Umabaran MHC: The cannon looks good, but I am surprised that LEGO, with the new age of excessive minifigure detail, decided to give the Umbarans ADU helmets. The new Ahsoka also looks good, but why doesn't she have a short blade for one of her lightsabers colored the old green they used for green lightsabers? More LEGO laziness.

BARC Speeder: My least favorite. The BARC with the sidecar is pointless. :hmpf_bad: The only appealing thing about this set is the new variant of Obi-Wan and Rex.

A-Wing: The ship looks similar to its previous incarnation. Since I already have Ackbar (after I BLed him), this is probably a pass. The helmet on the pilot (or mechanic) looks very un-LEGO.

TOR BP: I like the Republic troopers, and the new Sith trooper. The vehicle itself is pointless, though.

Overall, this wave looks great!

The helmet on the pilot (or mechanic) looks very un-LEGO? What? first to all, the minifigure is a pilot, this means that you do not know anything about these pilots, the helmet is very accurate compares with the old versions.

Well that's a dissapointment. The battle packs are probably the only buys for me, though I am dissapointed by the unique figures in them though. Why can't they just include 2 plain sith soldiers...

A big thanks to the contributors of the first pics regarding the upcoming wave. A long wait is about to be ended.

Sets of interest (by content):

- Clones vs. Droidekas: I'll have to take a closer look at the design of the Droidekas but this looks pretty much EP II.

- A-Wing: At first glance the ship looks neat. While my Ackbar does not urge to get a twin, OT/PT aliens are always a welcome thing. Might we dare to hope for a camo cape for Han?!

- Sith vs. Republic Troopers: Hard to explain but there's something special about it. Makes me want it.

- Rancor Pit: Another of the rare Gamorreans, an adventurous cave as an addon to Jabba's palace and best of it - the mighty Rancor himself!

All of the animated stuff is easy pass.

Now let's hope for confirmed - and reasonable - prices.

Considering the last line up, the Pit runs a high risk to get subject to LEGO budget shortages... Last wave, i only started getting sets after they got generally reduced by 20+%. Being a European and according to sales numbers known, i was in highly crowded company with this stance... I do not plan to change it if the overall level continues ascending to ever higher peaks.

Well, I always thought that when leaked promo pics showed up it was all part of a TLG secret marketing campaign - how wrong was I? It's nice to finally see some pictures even if most of them are of no interest to me. I'm actually pleased that the Winter output will allow me time to finally save some cash for 2012 sets .

The AT-RT looks pretty decent imho but as a strictly OT collector I won't buy it. I still feel I need to reserve judgement on the Rancor Pit to see how it looks with Jabbas' Palace on top and although the A-Wing looks pretty sleek, compact and swooshable I'm kind-of indifferent to it - I just don't dig A-Wings. I'll need both of these sets though just for the figures. IMO the Rancor Pit has excellent figs and the A-Wing has me tempted by the Pilot and the more detailed Han Solo torso print :sweet:

Still looking at the sets and I'm still at a pass with the CW sets. I only started collecting SW in 2012 because of the great line-up and I will pass on a lot of these. From what I can tell, a lot of people that were happy with 2012 will pass on this wave and the lot that were unhappy with '12 seem to want this wave, so I guess it all evens out in the end.

Thanks for posting the planet sets. The figures don't seem like a great draw, but the mini ships seem like good builds. I may end up picking them up after all depending on closer inspection. But as far as figure selection, I think most will be duplicates.

Thanks for the link.

The minis look decent, except for the T-47, which looks... flat. (and the cockpit is too small and the nose is too big, but TLG's never gotten that area right)

I'm surprised to see TLG using it; I like the SNOT approach to the Delta-7. Even if it looks a little bulky, some of you will remember that I love that building style.

The TIE/sa looks a little blocky with those 1x2 bricks in the middle. The original Mini TIE/sa solved that problem much better, with the Technic axle going through an Astrodroid body, prevented from rotating by the prongs of magnet bases on the wings.

Really? I don't understand why intentionally making it look different for difference's sake is desirable. I want to build a bunch of A-wings that actually do all look like the same model of spacecraft, differing just in exterior markings and so on. If anything, I'm troubled by how different the new pilot is from the previous A-Wing pilot figures; it makes it harder to use them together. As I hardly have any, though, I guess it's not an issue.

Nah. I didn't mean it like that. I just meant that I'm happy with my 2006 model, so I'm not interested in getting this one. I rarely get two different versions if the same ship, unless there is a huge improvement.

Awesome to finally see some pictures, specially on my birthday, so double awesome for me. Though its a bit of a disappointment.

AT-RT: nice to see so mush detail, but way to big in comparison to other sets. The mini-figures are nice but Yoda is totally out of place.

Mobile Heavy Cannon: Looks like something great to build, but I think this one is undersized. The Umbarran mini-figure is a total fail!

Barc Speeder: Not looking bad, but not great either. The mini-figures are very nice, I might have to give Rex a different pouldron and kama though.

Z-95: This is the one I was looking forward to, I think it looks accurate and not to bad. Mini-figures look decent and well done.

A-wing: I will be getting this one, only because I don't own one yet. Mini-figures look nice, but I expected more from the Ackbar figure.

SWTOR BP: Looks nice, at first i didn't want to invest money into SWTOR, but I couldn't resist the Fury Class, and ended up buying all other SWTOR sets, so i will get this one to. Mini-figures look alright.

SWAOTC BP: I'm sad that they stop with the Phase I Clone Wars variant of the Clone Troopers and jumped back to the AOTC variant, though I think I might still buy this BP, just because its AOTC and I find the helmet very nice looking and accurate to the movie. Mini-figures are okay, droidekas look horrible.

I still hope some of these figures are just placeholders for better detailed ones, but I don' think its the case.

First post is updated with the pictures (and new info they provided) for the main wave. The pictures of the planet sets are prelims stamped 'Confidential', so they have not been added to the first post.

And why doesn't Rex have a antenna or one of those skirt things?

As Oky observed, the helmets don't seem to have holes for accessoires. The fact that Rex doesn't come with an antenna indicates that Oky's observation may be actually correct. Rex wears a "skirt thing" (= "kama"), though.

Nice way to start the weekend guys, with pictures of the next wave of sets! :sweet:

I was shocked to see how huge the AT-RT turned out, i had hoped it was more to scale this time. But the design is very detailed and quite good, and the same can be said of the rest of the line up. Still, there are only two sets among them i feel tempted to buy at this point: the TOR BP and the A-Wing. The A-Wing itself looks really nice, but the figures are a major draw for me as well.

Whoa!! First ep 2 set since 2008 (Hailfire Droid set) and with the two ep 2 Planet sets, we have !3! AOTC sets in the first half . What a suprise... All new phase 1 clones :cry_happy:

The republic trooper helmets are weird , very strange.

If i can see right , the AT-RT set comes with Commando Droid Commander. And yeah , the Walker is very big , like the AT-ST

The a-wing better than the prev ones , but meh

Z-95 . I love ARC-170 better. :classic: but i must have KRELL!!

The BARC looks butifulll

MHC , i've never really thought its gonna be a set, but very interesting... :sweet:

Many new helmets: CT , Rep Trooper , A-wing Pilot , Clone Pilot , Umbaran Trooper

I assume , in the summer we will get more phase 1 clones.

I think that there are good and bad aspects of this wave. The two things that stand out the most to me are:

1. In TOR BP, why on earth did they give us two orange clones, and not at least 1 red one to go with the commander in TOR starfighter from this year? I was hoping for a red helmet for him! It would have been nice to see some variation.

2. I know that battle packs are battle packs, and they don't put a lot of effort into the models, but... look how unbelievably tiny they are. We get that ONE speeder in TOR BP, and granted a brick-built gun for the clone, but still!! And the AOTC BP droidekas are absolutely tiny- they don't have arms!

Anybody agree with me on this one? :hmpf_bad:

Posted

Well, I think my favorite part is the new box designs :sceptic: The republic trooper helmets look cool (not that I know anything about the game).

Posted

Commando droids and droideka's? Why? We already have plenty of (wrong colour) commando droids through the 2012 battle pack - do they really need to be in 2 sets.

January is usually 'great figs-naff sets' and 2012 almost convinced me that pattern had changed...

This set has a number of good figures but the sets are so lazy. What the hell is that 6 legged tank? The clone battle pack only has 2 figures, thank goodness for the sith set.

First time I've really thought of just falling back on bricklink...

It's killing me how the Republic Troopers in TOR Battle Pack (BP) keep getting referred to as "Clones" when they're not. Although I have yet to purchase any of TOR sets, I think this set is the perfect BP since LEGO changed to the two faction BP.

Hm, the planet sets seem a bit disappointing at first glance. The mini models are pretty good as usual (except for the TIE Bomber which looks too blocky as Brickdoctor said) but the planets themselves don't look as good as I had hoped. For instance, I was expecting Coruscant to be a very dark sphere with yellow lines rather than a gray one with orange lines, but it still looks good. All the other planets just look boring to me, but to be honest, I don't know how they could have done them better. The minifigs are also very uninteresting at this point, but since some of them seem to be preliminary stand-ins (such as R5-F7 standing in for R4-P17) I'll reserve further judgement until we see final pics. I hope the Clone Pilot will end up having updated non-CW torso print and finally an accurate helmet without a fin (although I'm not holding my breath on the latter).

As Oky observed, the helmets seem to have holes for accessoires. The fact that Rex doesn't come with an antenna indicates that Oky's observation may be actually correct.

Actually, what I said is that they don't seem to have holes, but yes, Rex not having an "antenna" (= range finder) is indeed a good indication that my fears are probably true. :cry_sad:

Yeah, I somehow missed the "don't" when writing :) (Actually, I wanted to write "no holes", but the result is the same).

As for the Kamino planet set, I'm positive that it won't come with a TCW minifig.

Now that we have seen the pictures of these sets (rather low-res), we can actually plan what we are going to get, for me that will be most of the wave.

Clone Trooper vs Droidekas Battle Pack - Definite buy! Never managed to get droidekas in any other set, even if these ones do look quite bad. Troopers look great; love that olive green!

The Old Republic Battle Pack - Maybe buy. I'm not going to buy the Sith Interceptor, so this is a good chance to get that trooper, plus you can never have enough Republic forces!

AT-RT - Definite buy! Really like the 501st trooper, and want a Yoda, plus that sniper droideka looks nice (not entirely accurate though). The actual vehicle looks great too, in a really nice colour.

A-Wing - Maybe buy. Never got any of the previous incarnations of this, so is an interesting prospect. Han looks nice, and so does the pilot, but I already own Ackbar through Bricklink.

Z-95 Headhunter - Definite buy! Another 501st trooper, and PONG KRELL!! I'm expanding my Jedi section, so this works well in that regard, even if he turned out to be a manipulating traitor.... Oh, and a nice looking ship too.

Rancor Pit - Not buy. Loving that Rancor but already have an Episode 6 Luke from Jabbas Palace, plus it is essentially just an add on to a set I already own.

Planet Series 3 - Buy, buy, buy! That acclamator looks great, and I assume the pilot will be PT, not CW (?); awesome Jedi starfighter, and hopefully great astromech; and a nice TIE Bomber with another pilot (slightly disappointing).

Planet Series 4 - Buy, buy, buy! Love the figures, love the minis, and love the planets. That is all.

BARC Speeder with sidecar - Definite buy! New Obi-Wan, new Captain Rex, and the ability to recreate a scene from the CW. A nice flitknot speeder with ANOTHER commando droid. I like them.

Umbaran MHC - Definite buy! New Ahsoka, a 212th clone trooper (with discoloured markings) and a reasonably accurate bjt undersized cannon. Good job on this one except for the Umbarans that look awful.

So, good wave, an expensive wave, with great figures and nice vehicles.
