Man, the Rancor Pit is just beyond Great! So happy to see such a great, detailed and good sized Rancor after so many years, The pit itself is also very nice and its wonderful to get a Rancor Keeper with this set, aswell as the new Luke and another Gamorrean Guard.

So, was the price and release date the FBTB gave for the Rancor Pit the offical price and release date of this set?

If so I'm really looking foward to getting this set in January for a pretty good price.(Really happy this set didn't go over 60!)

Why is there a hole in the center of the rancor pit?

Maybe so that your nice new minfigs fall from Jabbas' palace on to nice soft carpet, rather than falling on hard bumpy Lego. I suppose that won't quite work out if you have a wooden floor

I'm guessing that the technic bits (top front of gate) are there so that you can lock the gate in 'up' position then drop it on the Rancors' head. But, is there a brown hinge bottom right of this picture?

And a hinge on top. Looks like the cave opens up. Maybe to support the tower?

Someone else posted this awesome picture in this thread a few pages back.. but it is definitely worth reposting, probably the coolest picture of TLC I have ever seen:

UNFORTUNATELY as I posted in the action themes section, my excitement about unreleased dinos may have been unfounded.. the two dinos in the picture(below the silver pipe) appear to be -just- dino toys and not -lego- dino toys(I posted pictures of the toys they probably are in the dino thread).

BUT there are plenty of things to actually note in this picture, the most of which being SW sets(to keep this on topic):

-2 as yet unreleased fully boxed ALIEN CONQUEST sets(far mid left)

-Unreleased large ATLANTIS vehicle concept(the bottom right of the Atlantis case).. looks particularly awesome, with tentacles

-One of the two "dark towers" from LOTR, LOTR siege towers (to the left of Buzz and Woody)

Metric crapton of Star Wars stuff- possible concepts, future sets, lego designers showing off, etc-

My favorites?

-Yavin Playset

-Red Tie Interceptor

-Techno Union ship(Include a Wat Tambor minifig!)

-Kashyyyk Playset(this appears to be the most polished of the as of yet unreleased sets/possible concepts.. will be super surprised if this doesn't show up this year)

-The glimpse of some unknown SW playset in the extreme bottom right of the photo.. cut off.. I love big SW playsets :)

This picture although fabulous is from an article I think relating to the studio architecture of the lego company.

Most , if not all of the models seen in it would be older tests and I would't go expecting any of them to be released.

Firstly TLC guard there product designs very strictly and I can't see them accidently ending up in an online article related

to business practice let alone letting someone walk around their main build space with a camera. This looks to be a showroom /

workspace and I expect they have visitos all the time in there. My guess is that it is the graphic designers area.

The yavin playset is an older model from some time ago and featured in one of the lego books from the last couple of years.

Hope I haven't crashed any spirits as they are all good ideas for future sets...and god knows I've been wrong before.

9525 Pre Vizsla's Fighter is in the left of the SW cabinet and that photo came out a long time before this set was released, which proves you wrong. Again. Sorry.

Wow I think you are right , but it doesn`t make sense if the pit is opened. It will only fit half of the jabbas palace if it is open and therefore the top will not be stable. Are there any pics of the pit opened?

Now as for the eagerly awaited Rancor pit, well it obviously butts up the the bottom of the palace

and with sliding trapdoor many Oolas will be lost. I was confused as to the vertical gate being

covered over by the upper section of the palace preventing it from raising and then slapped myself

when I remembered that the wall behind Jabba swings out to make room.

As for the tower on the side t is clipped on and so is removed easily. There is no facility to clip

on a lower section below this and the slope above the people gate suggests no lower addition to the tower.

It could however serve as inspiration for kids to build their own portion and that is one thing

I think a lot of kids miss out on these days. I know a lot who are more content with just the pre fabrication

of the sets and don't inquire their imagination at all with lego which is a shame.

There is definately a hinge along side the gate at the back probably to ease play but also makes it

possible to expand on the set for a larger pit experience.

Now all we need is a massive lego hill to put this all in...

The hinged gate is meant to go below the hinged back section of Jabba's throne room.

Not to start a debate and with the best intentions but proves is a strong word...suggests is more accurate and already implied in my post.

Although the set Pre Viz is a recent release on the shelves it was announced back in February and has been on display since then. I would suggest

that the recent article that the photo is from has not.

I feel the gate section swings out under the tower like many have said already, but the section with the 4x6 gate door piece is on the side of the palace as the back of set....or the main play area. Picture it in your mind and over lay scenes from ROTJ and it will make sense....genius Lego, genius !

On second thoughts, that hinged gate section CAN'T go under anything.....you must be able to raise it to drop in on the rancor !

Edit - I found someones LDD file of the palace to see where the mounting holes go in respect to the pit....all the action is on Han's side of the room...of course the man of action eh ?

Note when open the two sections, their play features along with the trap door slider are on the same side and so is Solo's frozen wall hanging for Leia to flick and defrost switch !

For those interested, here a link to the LEGO designer room with most of the sets identified:

This is the link

This is a bit of topic but I wanted to add this.

There are 2 not listed there. One is the Separatist Boarding Craft just under the Naboo N1. The other is the most interesting one. Just next to the Venator right in the bottom

right corner of the picture is some kind of minifig playset. You might have to save the largest pic and zoom in a bit to see what I mean. :sweet:

Edit: here is a pic of what I mean.

I have no idea what that playset could be, but on closer inspection i did see a prototype for a Seperatist Super Tank that sparked my interest. It would be nice to see that one released! :sweet:

Well from what we can see(which is very little sadly) I would say that the playset is either a Theed Palace Playset or a very undeveloped Cloud City. I personally think it looks more like a Theed Palace Playset rather than a Cloud City Playset just because of the shape and lack other rooms which would be included in a Cloud City set.

What I want to know is, what is that thing next to the Republic Cannon in the Botttom Left-Hand Conner of the Photo?

Probably at least in part to cut down on costs. Keep in mind this will probably be a fairly expensive set relative to its piece count, given the size of the Rancor, and they don't want it to be prohibitively expensive. Cutting down on the volume of plastic in the set probably will help make it a more affordable set relative to its overall size.

TLG went cheap on the arms and legs of the rancor

What do you mean by that? The arms move and the hands rotate. The legs don't move, but on the big LEGO figures of late, they never do.

My friend who is at comic con this week told me earlier thathe spoke to one of the Lego reps there and she told him that in January there will be some ep2 sets. I don't know how true that is but it is a possiblity since I think ep2 comes out next year in 3D.

Don't forget there's also that upcoming Scholastic Lego book with a new Anakin, Padme and Jango on the cover.

Ohh yeah well I guess we just might get some ep2 sets after all.

The Rancor Pit really is appealing. I just take cover before the very price tag. They recently skyrocketed the pricing and this set might not do for an exception. This aside, there has never been a LEGO Rancor before. Thus the set has potential to become a real classic.

By design it is an adventurous set; great for kids to play with and memorable for AFOLs to look at. If TLG keeps pricing within the reasonable, the set might very well sell like hot cakes.

The fig with the lightsabre looks like Obi Wan, he has ginger hair, and a blue lightsabre.

It is the same case as the Wampa.
