Hey all, for the computer ignorant I was wondering if you all could walk me through the cheapest way of getting a domain name I know I want...

Thanks and God Bless,

Nathan

Hi Nathan,

I just bought a domain name (.be) with 1G webspace (incl. support for ASP, PHP5, MySQL, mailboxen, ...).

My investigation learned me that it was best to use www.one.com.

Prices and details are on this site (I paid 31 euro incl taxes and setup costs, annual price will be 15 euro excl. taxes).

I paid with Visa and got all details after 1 day.

Hope this helps...

I just bought a package off eBay which included domain registration and webspace for about US$30 PA. It does me fine and I've had it for over 3 years now.

Do you only want the domain or will you be needing other things? I suppose a better question would be: For what purpose are you considering to register this domain?

That's the first time I heard someone buying a domain name on ebay.

Was that from a company or an individual person?

I really just want to secure the domain name, not put up a serviceable site just yet (time issues).

If you're only wishing to acquire the domain then you'll be needing to find a domain registrar, Google will undoubtedly provide links to many. Shop round because they tend to vary in price.

Exactly what do you need "walking through" though?

I was just wondering if they're was anything to look out for (and avoid), I've heard of services which maintain ownership of the domain name or other rip-offs..

Thanks much for your help, I've started googling...

God Bless,

Nathan

Hi

i suggest to choose a hoster that has many different packages for webspace, funtionality, mailbox-sizes etc.

So you can start with something useful at the moment but later easily upgrade to something better. It is easier to do this and keepthe hoster than changing to a new one. Switching the provider/hoster can cause a lot of out of service days. Especially for emails this is a no go.

I would suggest you to register your domain name from 9cubehosting.com at reasonable price. They provide good serice with reliability.

I hope I am not jumping to conclusions but this seems a bit fishy. 3 posts in 5 minutes and no substance until this, hmmm...

Do you realize that this thread is 7 years old? I am wondering how you found this, maybe it was in the suggested thread area below? I am wondering because I read this thread just a few weeks ago and did not notice it as well. Just did not post anything.

It was bumped by someone who turned out to be a spammer (see the quote Pandora edited in jluckhaupt's post, the spammer's original post is gone).

Ah, thanks for clarification. I might report the spammer myself. *doh:

Maybe I should stop bumping this thread now.
