July 12, 201212 yr Very cool! It reminds me SO MUCH of the Model Team line. You did a great job recreating the original!
July 12, 201212 yr Excellent truck! I love how you managed to fit the pf components all in the cab! tim
July 13, 201212 yr Hi your model is incredible. For a moment, I didn't thnk it was lego at all, really... cheers John
July 15, 201212 yr Author Hi guys. Thanks for your comments. The guy on the Russian LUG had mentioned that the roof is a bit high.He was right - here is the modified version 1 by DB_Kit Fisto, on Flickr Edited July 15, 201212 yr by Kit Fisto
July 16, 201212 yr Looks awesome either way to me. Well done! Pardon my ignorance but can you simply paint pieces with chrome spray paint or are they dipped or manufactured? I see you purchased yours though BL but I doubt anyone in Australia is chroming parts so I wondered if it can be done DIY style?
July 16, 201212 yr Author The quality of the spray is really awful comparing to these wonderful pieces from BL. You can check this : http://www.doublebrick.ru/mocs/kit-fisto/western-star-4900-ex-dump It`s the first version of the model with sprayed parts...All of them were discarded. Try to ask some auto tuning services, the only reason I ordered from BL is that in Russia it costs about 15dollars to chrome one part, I don`t know about Australia. July 16, 201212 yr This is a really nice truck, you did an excellent job on it... $15 to chrome one piece is very expensive... You are right, it is better to just order parts from a place like chromebricks...

You are right, it is better to just order parts from a place like chromebricks... That is indeed very expensive. I don't think Chromebricks is selling that much volume. The best parts come from Bricks4all.nl, i use them too. The most shiny and true chrome (metal). No spray paint or any other crap, but truly metal plated. The only challenge is the chrome layer which makes tight fits

Wow that's a big difference in chrome. I can see why BL is the way to go, the quality looks perfect. Australian chrome pricing would be similar to Russia's and I doubt they would even be interested in doing them anyway. That is indeed very expensive. I don't think Chromebricks is selling that much volume. The best parts come from Bricks4all.nl, i use them too. The most shiny and true chrome (metal). No spray paint or any other crap, but truly metal plated. The only challenge is the chrome layer which makes tight fits Thanks Bricksonwheels and that brings me to my next question about the extra layer of chrome and tight fits. Do the parts snap together as normal? or do you have to scratch out the extra layer before they go together? I'm assuming they would be prone to chipping and flaking if you scratched them though?
July 16, 201212 yr I have been with 4 different Electroplating Chrome companies here in the United States and in my opinion my current guy who does the chemical spray on chrome has the best overall quality for my wheels, plus I can get them color tinted... I actually just got a batch of 40 in today for various people all over the world... But I think for regular Lego elements, electroplating my be the way to go as the plating can be controlled as to where you want it... Edited July 17, 201212 yr by Paul Boratko
July 17, 201212 yr I thought the target for the electroplating process had to be some sort of conductive metal? Or am I missing something entirely about how electroplating works?
July 17, 201212 yr I thought the target for the electroplating process had to be some sort of conductive metal? Or am I missing something entirely about how electroplating works? Actually it is vacuum metalizing which is what I should have said as it's not actually electroplating... The company that I use can chrome plate anything including glass and fabric...
