I am sort of new to the Lego thing, especially liscensed stuff. Can anyone explain to me why DC or Marvel would restrict characters TLG can make? I can see if they had big plans for a character, but seeing how many Marvel characters show up in the Ultimate Spiderman cartoon, why wouldn't Marvel want Lego to go nuts? Am I an idiot to think DC/Marvel stuff would always sell well?

There are plenty of reasons they might want Lego to withhold characters. What's made generally counts on popularity, so lesser known characters will probably take longer to see the light of day. Other characters like the fantastic four are withheld in anticipation of movies or shows being released (A tie-in product as it were).

Then there's also characters that Lego doesn't have the rights to make. For instance spider man sets can't be based around the movies because megabloks own the right currently (Let's hope for a change on that).

1. Marvel gets a big 10??? set as a counter for Arkham Asylum near the end of the year that is something like a "Best-Of" Set of the Thor 2 movie. Much like Hogwarts castle from Harry Potter and the order of the Phoenix that included several random figures and items that don´t really fit together.

Oooo! That's fun to think on. Marvel has a few settings that would make for nice big exclusive sets.

1. The Helicarrier, probably the most likely. Think a cross between the SSD and the Death Star.

2. Avengers Mansion, something along the lines of the Haunted Mansion, but with a Jarvis fig!

3. Baxter Building, a long shot given licensing, sadly.

4. Dr. Stranges Greenwich Village House. Now that would be a cool building to sit amongst the Modulars and Haunted House.

Watching the first two Iron Man, I hope we get based on the first five Marks in the Hall of Amror in the Malibu set. But, we'll probably get stickers depicting the Hall though:(.

I hope the exclusive promotional is the Black and grey Hammer weaponed War Machine suit, like the Hulk poly.

You forgot the X- Masion, which is they're only way of including an Prof. Xavier fig.

Seeing as Lego has been using the Spiderman cartoon as a source for sets, I have to wonder if we similarly might see some sets based on the upcoming 2013 CG cartoon of Beware the Batman. If so it sounds like we might see some lesser known characters see the light of day like Professor Pyg, Anarky, and an Alfred who is an ex-MI6 agent. I recently saw a teaser trailer for the show and was impressed by the visuals. The designers did a nice job creating a new Batmobile which echoes designs from the past and merges it with a high-tech slick look. It would look good in Lego form.

Here is the aforementioned trailer for those so inclined:

http://www.mtv.com/v...r-trailer.jhtml

Seems very likely IMO. There are no new movies in 2014 and if they do even more "generic continuity" Batman sets I am going to have a seizure. Either they begin making generic continuity Justice League/other DC sets or they do something for the DC shows like Beware the Batman, Green Lantern and Young Justice. It´s weird for them to ignore those shows and do sets based on Ultimate Spider-Man for so long anyway.

Lego's playing it safe with sets based on well known characters and sets based on movies. You also have to have limited merchandise on the shelves for kids to buy, to many confuses them, including one that have characters they don't know. That why the sets that feature unknown characters, have more characters that are well known.

It´s still a little weird to see DC and Marvel having to share 10 sets every year in their main line and Star Wars is getting 20 this year. I don´t say they should make 20 sets for each publisher, but there is room for a little growth.

Helicarrier seems very likely indeed. Maybe when the Avengers 2012 sets are being discontinued at the end of 2013 they could release the Carrier in a 6211 Star Destroyer-esque version with small rooms inside and the full Avengers team plus Fury and maybe Coulson and Hill. Like the way they make sure to always have an X-Wing on shelves in the Star Wars line they make sure to always give kids the opportunity to get the movie or main Avengers.

A Leviatan would also make an unique set in the big set category.

I´m not even counting on stickers. Right now I picture the set in the 40€ category with an open back, looking like a saucer on one or two BURPs with a few columns that you can kick away to let it fall over, make the window fall out and the figures slide out of the room on the huge tiles.

Doesn´t mean I am okay with that vision. It being more like the Batcave with an upper and lower level for 80 to 90€ would work better. From the looks of the trailer there don´t even have to be many figures. It seem the only people in the scene are Tony in a tank top, Pepper and the Iron Man suits. A lineup like Tony, Pepper, newest Iron Man and two or three old Iron Men and maybe one villain if they don´t want to make the set villain-less except for the pilotless choppers. Pepper and Tony aren´t even required, seeing how they skipped over non-heroes/villains at the moment mostly. For the suits I would choose the most distinctive looking ones to have some variety.

Mark 1 (because of the crude look and the fact that it is the first suit)

Mark 2 (would have to be metallic or silver and would still be different enough from Warmachine since the Mark 2 is much shinier)

Maybe Mark 5 (silver red color scheme and has a memorable and sudden appearance but is generally useless because it only appeared in one scene in one movie (I think))

Mark 6 and 7 aren´t really needed because they were already in the Avengers sets and 7 is possibly being repeated in one of the 3 new sets anyway. I doubt they start of with Tony having created the gold armor right at the beginning.

Mark 3 and 4 are maybe necessary because they represent the generic Iron Man costume the public knows best but 7 is already near enough to not make them necessary. Making 3 and 4 in sets is also not really needed because their designs are nearly identical save for some details, most of which LEGO could´t even adapt (different reds, random golden highlights on the legs and stomach, different plating with the arms that are normally not printed).

^ Pepper and Tony seem to be important to that scene, so I think we'll get them, shame not to give us a Tony with the triangle reactor showing through. The new Mark 42, as that's seen falling in the ocean with the debris, and either Eric Savin or Firepower.

I think the Mansion will be a watered down version of it. The Swedish website that listed it had it at 40€. I think the top will be the window with a saucer top similar to Jabba's palace. The rock cliff will be made from BURPs and inside will be Stark's lab, it would be pointless of them not to have it, as every kid, including me, will want to reenact Tony working on the suits and have the Hall of Armor. As in the trailer you see the suits blow up, I suspect that will be a play feature. Hopefully it will have figures of the suits and not stickers.

We will find out next week, when the London Toy Fair happen 21 - 24. We will get pic of the stalls and rough descriptions of the set and figures in the sets. I suspect that like The Avengers there will be figures and parts of the sets missing.

Neville I think we could easily see all the suits as well.

In the Mansion set we only need the Mark I,Mark III and Mark V. The Mark IV is exactly the same as the Mark III but with a yellow Arc reactor and lights. Since LEGO have all the current reactors as white you could bricklink a second Mark III, and put yellow translucent studs on the hands. I'm hoping the Mark II will be a special promo like last years Hulk. Make it Chromed like it is in the film. Of course like you say there's no need for the Mark VI or VII, however I assume we will see the Mark VII in the Extremist set as I'm guessing that's where he changes suit.

The only thing that would ruin this idea is if LEGO is going to withhold the Iron Patriot suit for a Promo event. Which I really hope they don't do, I would still get it but come on LEGO, put him in a set.

Also I'm guessing the Mansion will be the largest of the three and be like the Batcave.

^ well the Mandarin set sounds like the biggest as it sounds like the final battle.

Don Cheadle said the set for the final throw down was huge. And like I said the website had 40£ for the set. I think they had the Mandarin for 60.

Cheadle saying what the set was like make me think War Machine will be in that set.

He's the figures I think will be in the sets.

Extremis- Iron Man( he has the Mark 42, but it's not perfect til Extremis happens), War Machine( Mark II ), and Aldrich Killian( he's the creator after all ), I don't think Taggert will become Firepower, just a refernce to fans.

Malibu Mansion- Iron Man( Mark 42), Tony Stark, Pepper Potts, and Eric Savin, Marks I- V

Iron Man vs The Mandarin- Iron Man(42), The Mandarin( with all ten rings please!!!!), War Machine( Iron Patriot, most wanted in the biggest set), Rescue, and one of Mandarin's Extremis Army members.

Along with what Neville said, the line is just too new. It's much like Star Wars, gotta start off with characters that are well known and guaranteed to sell. We have got to be keep buying this theme so it'll hopefully stick around and we can start seeing some more obscure characters.

Agree, they should have make Dark Phoenix an exclusiv and the regular in a set!

A part of me is still holding out we'll see a regular Phoenix someday. Lego did make two versions of the Dark Knight Trilogy Batman afterall - one in the Tumbler set and the other a comic con exclusive. Perhaps all Jean requires to be released in a regular set is a different shade of green and a modified torso print?

He could also come with the X-Jet. I'm still hoping we'll see at least one X-Men set this year as a store exclusive. How long was it last year when we first got word of the Toys R Us Spider-Man/Doc Ock set last year?

The minifigures at 2011 Comic-Con were preview figures to promote the new theme. 2012 Comic-Con figures were exclusive to Comic-Con. Variations are possible, but they have to be noticeable, not a small colour change.

got the daily bugle set the other day and built it today... Awesome, just awesome! I think it might be the best super hero set yet. I do have to say I'd like to see some super hero sets with the spring loaded missiles we see in the star wars sets... the flick missiles are nothing special.

The 2011 figures were also exclusive though. Green Lantern has never appeared in a single set and the Nolan Trilogy Batman that was exclusive to Comic-Con isn't the same figure as the one in the Tumbler despite both figures being based on the same costume.

Even though I'm a DC fan more than marvel, I will probably only get one supes set because I want the new suit + the main villain. Hopefully IM3 sets look like this.

Iron man extremis, £19.99

Includes mark 42, Aldrich killain and firepower.

Iron man v mandarin, £19.99

Includes the war machine, mandarin and a henchman.

Malibu mansion, £59.99

Includes Stark, pepper, mandarin and a henchman (with the helicopter), mark 1, 2 and iron patriot. EDIT: hopefully there are 6 compartments to put 6 suits.

I'm hoping they'll have an X-Men exclusive, but it's unlikely as they seem to only be having six sets per year, and if they're releasing a Thor Dark World set, then they would have reached their max. It is a little bit likely as The Wolverine comes out in July, so it could be a generic X-Men special edition set.

Oh, and the Doc-Ock set was a Walmart exclusive, not a Toys"R"Us one.

I'm still not seeing the differences between black Spidey and Venom's torsos, myself. :sceptic: I do agree that if they did release Jean in a mainstream set, that she would probably be in a different costume, as that minifigure seems pretty spot-on.

Pretty spot on with prices, but allow me to make some adjustments.

Extremis- Iron Man( new suit, cheap way to get it), War Machine(the suit we have pics of), and Aldrich Killian( he is the creator), and some Extremis robots. Sadly I don't think Jack will be be Firepower( simply cuz the director said IM3 won't be another robot suit on suit movie, plus he's not listed with the other main actors, if he's a villain he would be) and is just included for fans

Malibu Mansion- Tony, Pepper, Iron Man(new suit), Eric Savin, and the Marks I- V

Ultimate Battle- Iron Man( new suit), War Machine( Iron Patriot), The Mandarin( with all ten rings!!!), Rescue, and Maya Hansen(?, maybe)

I'd swap Killian and Maya around, simple because in the comics Maya is the one who gives the Extremis virus to Tony. Plus from what I've heard on here and by watching the trailer, it looks like Killian will be on of the villains.

Killian makes more sense in the Extremis set, makes it more of a battle. Maya( who has not been listed as a villian) appears to be her comic counterpart and a sexy damsel in distress( that the vibe in the trailer gives me)

I very much doubt it but does anybody reckon that an exclusive superheroes set will be announced at the brick fair 2013 on January 18 because on this link http://www.hothbricks.com/2013/01/brickfair-2013-un-set-exclusif-sera-annonce-le-18-janvier-prochain/ it says that there is going to be a new exclusive set announced on January 18th, or will it be a non licensed set?

I think it will be that LotR Tower set that's been rumored.

Posted

^ It would be good if it was another batman set but I doubt it :-( & ^^ I think it will probably be the tower of orthanc

Posted

I hope it's the Orthanc Tower but I think it will be the palace as this was stated by some guys at the Lotr-thread because that set hasn't been officially confirmed yet...

I reckon it will be 10240 X-Wing Red Leader. But, a D2C X-Men set would be awesome!

Posted

^ I hope it isn't a Star Wars set, that'd be a bit disappointing if it was, but at least it wouldn't have an affect on my wallet, I hope for either the orthanc tower or a superheroes set but I doubt it'll be neither :-( I guess time will tell
