TheLegoDr Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 I love that Superman set and I'm not a Superman fan if that says anything. I think the figures look great, and being a minifigure enthusiast I can't wait to pick this up. I even love the car. It has some really useful parts for some of my car MOC ideas, so I can't wait to get at least one (and find the car pieces elsewhere). Zod looks great, at least from what I can tell. I don't know much about the character though. Superman's new suit is neat and I love the laser eyes. Just as I love the colored eyes on the new Iron Man mask. Kudos TLG. Thanks for the picture. Now I can't wait for the others! Quote
Bobstapwns Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Finally - a picture of one of the Man of Steel sets. :D That suit...it looks magnificent in my opinion! Zod looks pretty neat (the smirk looks great). Superman's laser-eye face looks incredible. The new graphic at the top of Superman looks, in my opinion, nice *don't ask - the graphics make the box more appealing*. Superman's other face - correct me if I am wrong - looks like it is the same normal one on the 2012 one. That's fine by me, but I prefer the other 'mouth open' one...but I'll live with it. I'll definitely get that set. Quote
DJ Bricks Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Superman's other face - correct me if I am wrong - looks like it is the same normal one on the 2012 one. It iis the one from the 2012 comic version, my guess is that it's wrong and didn't have the Mos head. That's what happens with most figs/sets in out of box images. My guess is the Mos head looks similar to the stern comics head but made to look more like Henry Cavill. Quote
Piranha Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Ooh, new pictures, I really like that set, both figures look fantastic. I was skeptical how the new suit would look but I think TLG did a great job. Zod is really cool too. I think the car is actually quite nice, I like it better than the dedicated cars featured in the City theme. Quote
Marvelfan120 Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 the MoS set looks great for 13 bucks, not a big DC fan but I might not be able to resist at that price and I'm glad to see something DC other than batman... Can't want for pics of the rest of the summer wave Quote
CF Mitch Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Wow, that MoS set looks good Not a big fan of Supes' new outfit, but then again I don't like the version they use in the movie either Though I will admit this fig is a good, proper representation of it Zod looks cool too, though not really what I expected. I would've thought he'd have a bit more of a goatee and that the logo on his suit would different as well. But nonetheless, I wil probably buy it. Regards, Mitch Quote
Oky Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Am I the only one who is annoyed by the fact that they went out of their way to print two stupid lines on the movie Superman's legs, but couldn't be bothered to print his iconic boots on the comic Superman and Spider-Man? I know the boots would be more dificult to print due to the side printing, but still. That said, the set and its minifigures do look pretty good. The Superman minifig actually looks better than the Superman in the movie, especially with that angry face, and Zod looks better than he did in Lego Batman 2. But is it just me or does he look a lot like the Punisher? The car and the tower do seem a bit random (which is probably why FBTB and Brickset couldn't remember much about these sets), but then again, you can't get any more iconic than Superman lifting up a car. Oky Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Don't worry, they managed to forget the boots on this version too. Yeah, what's up with that? They should print all of his legs, not just half of them. Oh well, I don't really care about Superman anyway... Quote
strangely Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Yeah, what's up with that? They should print all of his legs, not just half of them. Oh well, I don't really care about Superman anyway... The details in general for this minifig is just sort of odd. Like the detailing of the belt and on the legs looks nearly white and it really is not that bright in the movie (Contrasting with the darker blue makes it look even more noticeable). Combine that with the lack of boots and I'm underwhelmed by this. It's perplexing that in some areas it goes far to capture the details of the suit (The printing is really good and the double sided face is surprising) and then in others it's like they gave up (Odd coloring, wrong hair, no boots). Quote
kermit Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Although it is true to the movie version I personally think those white lines makes this superman look quite odd and there is nothing special with the car either. This will be a pass for me. Quote

Lego probably, like always, only had concept art or original pics to go on. In the original pics Supes could have had the curl, then the film makers decided to get rid of it. Maybe the white is supposed to be siver/grey an the lighting makes it look white. Looking at pics of the film suit, the "white" parts on the figure, are silvery on the film suit. so, I think that the white part are silver that is shining in the light. If you guys want to complain about boots, you know 99.99% of the Superheroes figure don't have boot printing on them. Edited January 31, 2013 by daniel gourhan22 Quote
Ceroknight Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Love the Man of Steel set! Great way to get two awesome figures! The car's probably beat up cause Zod and Superman kept throwing it at each other Quote
JDW Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 I'm glad they released the classic Superman last year. I'm not a fan of the new suit in the comic, movie, or in Lego form. I might pick up a set to get Lois though. Quote

And with the boots I never actually expected Lego to put them on. In all reality though until they find a better way to print footwear it's probably for the better that they don't do it. Though that reality doesn't stop me from wanting leg printing. Edited January 31, 2013 by strangely Quote

fatfrog2596 Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 The Iron Man suits are great If Zod and Superman only have one variation I might end up skipping this set and getting the figures through the other sets. Quote
Faefrost Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 (edited) Just going off the photo on LEGO.com here. I see it's definitely not as deep, being on an 8x16 plate. Heightwise, it looks like it would fair pretty well in the same vicinity as the Modulars. I may think differently when I get it in front of me, but it'll bring some nice diversity to my layout. I wish I could find a picture of it, but in Lego Club magazine a few months back there was an ad for DC Superheroes that was centered around a 3 story corner modular version of the Bank from the 6864 Batmobile Two Face Chase set. It looked gorgeous, and would be a good inspirational starting point for doing the same with the Daily Bugle. PS a word of warning. Remember to always search for "Lego Club Magazine" attempting the search without the "Lego" yields some surprisingly inappropriate results. Edited January 31, 2013 by Faefrost Quote

I'm guessing Supes will only have one variation. Zod( who has been confirmed to have two variations) will have a combat armor that will appear in one set. The standard suit will be in the other two. Masta' Blasta' Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 I'm not sure why people want boots on their minifigures, considering the way LEGO handles printing like that. If they could improve their methods, boots would be fine with me, but I'd rather not have them for the time being. Quote
North Lego Star Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 I'm loving that Superman set to be honest. I think it's a great cheap way to get your main characters and some small stuff for them to battle with. I'll probally pick this one, just to get the main characters and start building up my Justice League eailer! Quote
Tobias_Jay Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 That Man of Steel is so simple but so great. The car can be useful for other themes like City, but really I am ecstatic to be getting a General Zod figure in my collection. Sorry if this has been posted before but this must be the Mk 42 Iron Man suit. I have to say he looks great. http://images.wikia.com/lego/images/1/16/IronManMkXLII.jpg ( sorry, if you have to copy paste it into your URL bar. iPads can be very restrictive when it comes to Eurobricks). Ceroknight Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 That one looks more like the 42 but I wish we got more gold, maybe gold arms.. Quote

Santaduckz Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 (edited) I think the car is a pretty fun and fitting projectile for that launcher (which seems to be it's purpose according to the box art) Now for pics of Lois Lane!! Also... the fact that the MOS set is called 'Metropolis' Showdown made me chuckle. Always though it was a little bigger.. haha Edited January 31, 2013 by Santaduckz Quote
