Sam892 Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 I'm not sure what most of you expected from the Mansion, set but this looks spot on to me. It was never going to be the full mansion at this price. I think they did a pretty good job. It's recognizable for what it is. I wasn't expecting much looking at the price, but the mansion itself still to me looks small. I was expecting the helicopter to be more along the lines of the Jokers's helicopter. To me its very similar in size and most likely pieces to Deadpool's. I think LEGO could have easily made the chopper 100 pieces less, and used them to make the mansion 2 stories tall. In fairness the inside of the mansion ( from what I could see ) looks really good. All those trans blue screens, and the desk. I'm also really pleased they gave us the two pepper versions! Quote
DJ Bricks Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Is that a new suit or is that just the Mk 42 with Pepper in it? Well in the minifigure gallery, it's labled as Mark 42 suit, so i guess it's meant for either to be in the suit. Quote
brodey1 Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 That helicopter looks almost exactly like the one in Wolverine's Chopper Showdown. Quote
TheBrickDaddy Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 These sets are some of the worst I've seen in a very long time. The minifigs are fine, but not outstanding- War Machine's shoulder-mounted gun is absolute trash. The Mandarin looks like he should be a dwarf from the hobbit line... And most importantly: NO. IRON. PATRIOT. Quote

PATRIOT. The mandarin is accurate except for the hair and beard. The gun looks kinda comic bookish, it's still a cool design. Just be thankful it's not a ADU gun that Mandarin and Killian have. And we might get Patriot as a polybag ala the Hulk from last year. Quote
Repeter Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Dang it, I hate to admit this, because I am sort of new to the AFOL scene and mostly everything I've ever bought from LEGO has been top-notch, but it's been bothering me all evening since I saw these pics: These sets are not good. At all. The minfigs are good, but nothing ground breaking. Why does every IM suit have to open its face mask? Give me a slimmed down head that doesn't open. Something new...anything new!! And don't even get me started on that Mandarin! I understand the character is drawn from the movies, which is controlled by a whole other creative team, but that beard looks like a Rastafarian had a very successful journey, mon. Someone was smoking something when they came up with something that bulky and ugly and it got approved. Ok, TLDR rant almost over. I just think all these set sort of fail to deliver, except some elements of the "mansion" (my two bedroom apartment dwarfs that thing). I don't like any of the vehicles. At all. The fire-buggy rivals Doc Ock's useless trike for lameness. I am a huge fan of the work TLG has done with their licenses. I'm even finishing up the PotC stuff, just because the sets are so cool. I didn't even like the movies! Why has TLG put out such 'meh' sets for the Marvel line, sans a few things (the Quinjet is superfantastic)? Great minifigs, half-a$$ed sets. As Stan would say, "Nuff said." Ok, glad I got that out, my wife just looked at me, blankly, when I tried venting to her. I figured some of you folks would maybe understand. Carry on. Quote
Omicron Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 I think the reason why Lego gave us War Machine and not the Iron Patriot variant is because they are probably making up for Iron Man 1 & 2. Makes sense for the added suitcase. The Avenger sets were just like that with inspiration from their movies too (with Thor's hair resembling his style in Thor, Cap being on the bike like he was in First Avenger, and Loki having his staff modeled after his own from the comics and the Thor movie and not Avengers). I'm sure we'll get an Iron Patriot eventually. -Omi Quote
deskp Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 (edited) That Mandarin hair/beard is TRASH. Lego super heroes wave 2 seems to be mroe or less absent of new molds... The super heroes line does not get the full treatment I feel it deserves from lego. It feels a bit like a 2. rate unlisenced theme.. Edited February 8, 2013 by deskp Quote

I know that LEGO will sometimes include minifigures in sets that don't appear in that scene, but perhaps given the scenes these sets are based on he won't be involved in. The ultimate showdown may just be a very personal fight between just Stark and Mandarin. Plus I doubt Rhodey is In the mansion scene since Pepper is having to wear an Iron man suit. I'm not sure if Rhodey is involved in the airforce one scene but if we get a future set based on it we could get him. Although I'm not sure if LEGO would be allow to make an airforce one model. The grey suit is certainly new as its different from the Iron man 2 War machine. The arc reactor in the second film is round, where as in this film its square. Plus in the Prelude comic Tony upgrades the suit to this version we are seeing in the set. Quote
Another Brick In The Wall Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 What's the deal with the small sets?? Ugh. A lack of faith in the drawing potential of the film .....maybe. While IM3 is will certainly not reach the blockbuster status of DKR, it probably deserved better. I'm guessing TLG is going for a quantity over quality approach with respect to the Marvel films. I have to say, though, every Marvel set based on a film, with exception of Quinjet, has been underwhelming. Quote
hockeyboy89 Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Are we sure that's Pepper in the suit??? I can't get a clear enough pic. Quote
Big T Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Are we sure that's Pepper in the suit??? I can't get a clear enough pic. Looks like the face in the suit has lipstick, so it's most likely her Quote
Omicron Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 (edited) Are we sure that's Pepper in the suit??? I can't get a clear enough pic. Well it's definitely not Pepper falling down in the black shirt with the Arc Reactor showing through. Also we don't know how long the Patriot suit will be in the film for. I guessing the grey suit gets a respray or an upgrade about half way through. They just couldn't identify it as such and make it a generic plane. -Omi Edited February 8, 2013 by Omicron Quote
wesker Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Looking again at the Mansion set, I really hope the Mark 42 suit isn't going to come headless. The absence of the civillian Pepper on the box art almost suggests we have to switch out her head or Tony's if we want them in the suit. Quote

jonwil Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 I concur that all of the Marvel sets so far (Spider-Man sets included) have been a bit underwhelming. Only one I have considered buying so far has been the Hulk Hellicarrier set but no way am I paying the rip-off Aussie prices for the thing. Quote

The cosmic cube escape, Quinjet, Spidercycle and Chopper showdown sets are all incredible. Their a perfect blend between price, great figures and good vehicles/parts. To me the Helicarrier was only saved from the worst set in my opinion because of the Hulk fig. I haven't been able to get the Bugle yet but I'm looking forward to getting it in March, so until then I can't really be sure what its like. Quote
jonwil Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 I guess my perceptions are tainted by the fact that all of the Marvel sets have so far cost a FORTUNE in my country (Australia) and hence the value proposition seems pathetic compared to other sets in themes like City or Creator. Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 I'd actually go out on a limb and say that the X-Men set is the best Marvel set we've gotten so far. It's exactly the kind of thing I had in mind when Lego announced the license. Quote
Piranha Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Thanks for the pictures! Starting with the smallest set, the buggy is bleh, I am having flashbacks to 7884. The Mandarin's hair and beard just don't really look good at all I admit. The heartbreaker suit is the same we had seen previously, no new surprise figs. The extremis seaport battle set is alright I guess, the antagonists vehicles seem to have a corresponding color scheme. I don't like that rendition of Aldrich Killian or Eric Savin/mystery green guy, I mean the virus makes them pale green? Would have liked a Firepower in a suit like the comics, but oh well I guess, that is the film rendition. The mansion is actually better than I thought it would be, that window upper area is built good. The blender and Mark 42 schematic are nice touches. Easy to add much more features if you like via MOC. It is also not dis-jumbled like the Helicarrier and random bits that look <insert that tiresome argument>. I still hope we get a D2C of the mansion one day with the Hall of Armor's. I guess TLG omitted it all together instead of giving us a bad rendition. The rest of the figs are fantastic, except for the villains. I hope we get Iron Patriot as the S@H promo. Quote

Faefrost Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 I don't completely hate these. The Mansion is kinda growing on me. It's better than I expected. It at least has some defined walls,a nd gets the feel well enough. Plus it looks like it could be MOC/MOD'ed well. And all of the other armor variants are in fairly inexpensive sets (save the Quinjet one and the comic con one) So Modding a hall of armor to display them all would be easy. My only disappointment there is the lack of a Mark I. But does the licensing allow Lego to make stuff straight up from IM1, such as Mk 1, Mk 2 and Iron Monger? Anyway I like the Mansion, I like the figs in the two cheap sets. The boat set with War Machine and the Extremis dude looks good in spite of the boat. The IM vs the Hobo at least looks like it will be cheap. Mandarin looks bleah. But at least now we have a Doc Doom fig from the spiderman sets to give Stark some real competition. Heck we are probably almost to the point where we can stage a Lego Armor Wars. 3 sets still feels like something is missing? Have we heard of any polybags or small impulse sets, or store exclusives? Cosmic Cube Escape -- boring model, nice minifigs but all available in other sets. Quinjet - outstanding set. Chopper Showdown -- see CCE except all minifigs were exclusive. Spidercycle - not based on a movie. Quote
