The_Chosen_1 Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 ^ It's been officially announced on USA Today. It's a real set. Quote
strangely Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 (edited) I don't think that Flash set is real. Flash has similar headgear to Captain America, so I don't see why TLG would give him a helmet. Also a printed head is much cheaper than creating a whole new mold just for flash. Well Flash's mask has the lightning bolts that are at the sides while on CA he just has a pattern on the sides, so that's why we needed a piece for the mask. And they create single use molds all the time. Superman and Wonder Woman have hair that could only work on them. Catwoman (In fact we've had two versions of that mask), Batman (Also two molds for this mask) and Iron Man have masks that only work on them. Plus many other characters have received a character specific headpiece with limited use. Lego does this all the time. Edited July 16, 2013 by strangely Quote
GuntherThePenguin Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 My first thought when seeing the Flash in Lego form: "don't you even be f*cking with me right now" Parden my language but Flash has and forever will be my favorite DC superhero... To have him in Lego form would be a dream come true! Quote
Sam892 Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 They cancelled Spectacular Spider man for Ultimate Spider man. A bad move on Disney's part for sure. And you certainly are right that they wouldn't spend millions of dollars on these rights not to use them. I was under the impression that Spectacular Spider-man was created by Sony, hence the reason why no characters outside Spidey ( Avengers, X-men and FF) could appear in it. Quote
Navy Trooper Fenson Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 (edited) Also we have had no official word about there being no sequel. Apart from Ant-man no other phase three film has been confirmed. Your forgetting that Man of Steel didn't have a confirmed sequel and LEGO still produced sets around it. GotG also have a large fanbase. They have been around for 30years. Given there current state it makes more sense LEGO giving them sets. As kids may not be as familiar with them, Marvel will most likely make a big promotional push for them in both marketing and merchandise. Kids will be more attracted to the film if there is a bunch of toys and LEGO sets based on it. Plus if its anything like the Star Wars licence, Marvel will have the final say over what sets get made. Right now it looks like it will set up the villain of Avengers 2 and will otherwise not affect anything in the MCU the slightest, but I agree it´s much too early to get a real sense of what they are going to do with the film. Man of Steel was WBs only project this year and three consecutive years of Keaton and Adam West Batman punching villains in the face are way too much so they had to break it apart somehow. GotG was created in 69 and got few appearances in a bunch of different titles. They got steady appearances in the 90s where they had some shortlived series but were completely wiped from all stories for over 10 years. I wouldn´t really compare this fanbase to any character LEGO had made sets for, let alone any character that got a big budget movie made about them and I don´t know how strong Marvels/Disneys/LEGOs desire is to make them into a household name. It will certainly come down to the amount of sets they will produce that year and how many projects they want to cover which is very much like the movie itself way too early to seriously talk about. TheLegoDr actually brings up a great point, as far as current content from DC and Marvel go. I think that a more fair split would be something like 8 Marvel and 4 DC sets (and even that is pushing it, since DC has no new films announced). It shouldn´t be about how many movies or shows are on, the problem lies with LEGO DC limiting their options by just being a "Batman, Superman and their amazing friend of the year" line. Justice League would provide enough material to make a line as big as Star Wars. It´s really DCs fault for limiting LEGO or LEGO only half-assedly hearing to their customers demands, I don´t know who exactly has more power over the set line-up. The worst thing about the situation seems to be that when DCs movie division is getting their crap together and actually make Justice League after the 15 years of planning and the lines stay as small as they are right now we will have no chance at a bunch of characters in their comic-based costumes. I dearly hope it's Iron Man. The recent IM3 line was disappointing to say the least. Maybe this means we get some sets from the first two films. I could imagine a whiplash racecourse set as either a small set with a car and two minifigs, or a bit set with a race car, Happy's car, Pepper, Mark 5, Whiplash, and Happy. Would be nice but seeing that Riddler chase set it looks like we still get a "Batman and his Superfriend of the year" deal instead of full on Justice League and because I don´t expect LEGO repeating themselves that much and big the Batman line will probably be kept small and thus also the amount of sets for Marvel, who will have enough problems with their Captain America 2, GOTG and USM (plus maybe ASM2 and Thor 2) sets. That would be interesting. In an interview, didn't the actor who played Harley say his character was going to be a LEGO minifig in the future? Or was he talking about the character appearing in the LEGO Marvel game? I think a large $120 set would be amazing, based on the final battle in Iron Man 3 with: Bones, Igor, Silver Centurion, Gemini and Extremis Soldiers in a harbor/dock playset. The kid was just mindlessly talking about getting a bunch of merchandise. I think he read it somewhat and found clauses for actionfigures, LEGO and stuff but I would guess they have clauses for this in everybodys contract. The kid called the LEGO Marvel game for example as being a LEGO Iron Man 3 game, that shows how little he actually knows. I can't imagine why Disney would care about which Spider-man they use. As Disney own all the merch rights they wouldn't have to pay any money to SONY. Also the film would be a much better option, as more people are likely to see it. It's much easier to see the film (buy a ticket at the cinema, buy it on DVD in a few months or download it) where as the USM cartoon is much harder to watch. First of all the cartoon is only available through satellite and cable television companies, which requires a subscription. Also with this the cartoon has spilt people down the middle on whether they like it or not. Marvel will most likely want to go with what's popular and at the moment I would say its the film series. And don´t forget the countries that aren´t USA. Some of them don´t even get the show and when they get it it the airing is one year behind USA. Movies are easier to follow since they start in the same week everywhere. Edited July 16, 2013 by Navy Trooper Fenson Quote

Originally it was created by Sony, but eventually the television rights for Spiderman were bought by Disney. Unfortunately Disney decided to cancel it and create a new show which was a rather stupid move considering it was critically acclaimed and ended on a cliffhanger (Like every Spidey show seems too). coolguy2323 Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 Finally we get the Flash! Him along with Martian Manhunter and Doctor Fate, are my 3 favorite DC characters. Quote
KingPixels Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 (edited) The money made on the secondary market is money lost for TLG while simultaneously penalizing true Lego aficionados . Thus, the solution is simple: make them available in a polybag 6 months later.I have Iron-Patriot preordered with Lego Marvel Avengers from ebgames.com.au Thank you so much! I just went to ebgames.co.nz and saw that they're offering the figure as well! Thanks for the tip! Edited July 16, 2013 by KingPixels Quote

I really want a Doctor Fate minifig. He looked unbelievable on the Justice League cartoon (I would love a Solomon Grundy in the style of big fig Hulk too!) and quickly became one of my favorites as a result. Sarah Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Not sure whether to place this here or over in the Friends topic My son finished a summer workbook and went to a local toyshop that was giving 50% off up to $25 off for that. He chose a Lego set. It came down to a choice between Iron Man Extremis Sea Port Battle and Superman Black Hero Escape and he chose Iron Man because it had 3 boy figures in it instead of 2 boys and 1 girl. Quote
Super Goblin Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Ok what's your point? Most boys are like this, my sons never play with the female minifigs. Quote
Sarah Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Its just a data point. In amongst the whole controversy of why Lego doesn't put more girl figures in their sets. I didn't think it'd be a big deal. After all, I played with sets that had boys in them, growing up. I certainly didn't expect to see my son making a decision on such a little thing! (though I guess it may have been a case of all else being equal to him) Quote
CorneliusMurdock Posted August 20, 2013 Author Posted August 20, 2013 I certainly didn't expect to see my son making a decision on such a little thing! (though I guess it may have been a case of all else being equal to him) If it makes you feel any better, I'm sure the fact that the Seaport Battle came with two heroes in awesome armored suits and a villain with a glow-in-the-dark head probably affected his decision as well. Compared to two guys fighting in their pajamas (from a kids perspective, I got Black Zero Escape myself because Superman and Zod (and Lois) are pretty cool), I'd chose Seaport Battle as well. Quote
Sarah Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 (edited) Its glow in the dark? I didn't know that! I'll point it out. (He's just turned 6 and still needs my husband to help him put the sets together. If I'd known better I'd have pushed him a little toward easier City sets... but I didn't realize it'd be the problem it has been. He'll grow into it!) Yes, he definitely wanted 2 good guys and 1 villain in the set. He's big on the good vs evil dichotomy. (He loves the Tron movies for this reason. It is SO easy to tell who is good and who is bad.) CorneliusMurdock Posted August 20, 2013 Author Posted August 20, 2013 It's not a very strong glow-in-the-dark. It'll probably have to be in direct light for a few minutes to store up the light before each time you want it in the dark. Yeah, if you can push him into the smaller city sets (every hero needs a city to save anyway), he might do a little better. My daughter just turned 5 and she's starting to be able to put the smaller Friends sets together. The little animal ones are great for her. My advice also is to let him do a lot of free play with basic bricks as well. Just experimenting with how the bricks go together without the pressure of instructions should give him a good idea of how to build later with instructions. Quote
Blakstone Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 (edited) My thought was that Lois is a civilian. I wonder if he would feel the same about the Superman / Lex / Wonderwoman set. WW can fight just as much as Superman, but Lois cannot. Edited August 20, 2013 by Blakstone Quote

Only Sinner Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 I think kids are really perceptive with the role-play some of these sets provide, regarding the nature of the characters. My five year old daughter finally got to build the 6862 Superman vs. Power armor Lex set. She has been asking for weeks to do it and when we finished, went straight away to attack poor Lex with the "good guys" from the set. She even went and got some LEGO Police cars out and some crooks to act out a fight scene. These kindergardeners are crazy smart, I tell ya! She has also been bugging me to do the 10937 Arkham Asylum Breakout, but I don't want anymore LEGO clutter, at the moment. My preteen daughters are also +1ing the notion, as they are huge fans of anything with a dollhouse style design. They really like Friends and the Creator houses. Quote
