February 3, 201312 yr Author I updated the the rear of the ship to limit the bending. Initially the rear lower city was attached to the frame, and the upper city was divided in 3 parts that were just put on top of the frame on plates, the rear most also comprised the tail to goes all the way to the ship. (can be seen on that pic) I decided to make a block with the rear of the frame, the engines, the rearrest upper city and the tail. That block will just slide into the main frame. This have two advantage, The rear is stronger and bends a lot less, and I can work on it more easyly. executor_v2r0b par BobDeQuatre, sur Flickr To lock the two part of the ship I used a technic axle that can have bushes screwed on it, but I didn't found it in LDD.
February 3, 201312 yr Great to see you are still going strong Bob! I like that you have the front most engines sloping beautifully I would suggest though, that you make the area around the engines stud down - that way you'll get way more detailing option :) Keep it up! Morten

Morten I've thought to built that area studs down, but that would be a lot of work... Looking good Bob How long before we see it in bricks? It is brickbuild!! But I still need the bricks for the engines, as I couldn't find the rims needed in bley. I'll try to post some pics tomorrow.
February 6, 201312 yr Author Here is the rear block The frame without and with the rear block From the bottom And a bonus pic
February 7, 201312 yr Excellent pics Bob! You don't have to change your design that much to go studs down. If your can find room for it you can use the "old flat hinge trick" and turn the studs around in 2 plates thickness :)
February 8, 201312 yr Author Excellent pics Bob! You don't have to change your design that much to go studs down. If your can find room for it you can use the "old flat hinge trick" and turn the studs around in 2 plates thickness :) Thanks. I've tried some design with flat hinges... but for now I must find a better way to attach the top side panels Edit: I've found a system to attach the top panels. I've made some measurements and that "baby" is 40cm large, 12cm tall (26cm with the feets), and 157cm long Edited February 9, 201312 yr by Bob De Quatre
February 10, 201312 yr Author Again a lot of pics. Sorry for the messy background The solution for the top panels. They flip on the sides of the SSD, allowing access to the insides of the beast. Except for the uppercity, which I won't build for now due to the lack of money, the SSD is almost finished. I still need to buy some parts for the engines, finish the bottom panels and rebuild the greebles of the port side. As I've modified many things but don't have many spare parts, I might need to buy some more plates. As I've said in the precedent post, the SSD is 40cm large, 12cm tall (26cm with the feets), and 157cm long.
February 10, 201312 yr Author It's looking great. I love the lonely little command tower . I love it too I can't build the city, but I really wanted to add the command tower.
February 10, 201312 yr That's looking really good Bob Do you know how many parts you'll need for the top section, or when you're hoping to finish it? Are you going to use any other colours than light & dark grey? I've debated buying a couple of hundred 1x1 and 1x2 trans-blue plates for my standard SSD to mimic the film, but wasn't sure if it would look ok.....
February 10, 201312 yr Author According to LDD, I'll need approx 1800 pieces to complete the uppercity and I hope to finish it when I'll have enough money to buy those 1800 pieces I'll only use light grey for the upper city, but I think it might looks good in dark grey... And for the other colors, there is plenty of them inside I've also wanted to include some trans blue plates, and some lighting, but it wasn't possible due to the style of city I've build. But adding blue LEDs might be nice. If you mod your SSD, please show it to us
February 15, 201312 yr Good luck on the project! Look forward to seeing the completed ship in all it's glory.
July 10, 201311 yr I've just begun re building my SSD, with Bob's design in mind. Really difficult for me since I'm a new in lego, but it's thrilling, because..well, the size is interisting I have to admit:)
July 16, 201311 yr I'm facing the exact same problem as you did Bob:) The rear of the SSD is too heavy and is moving a bit down..gotta rethink the back of the ship to make it stronger, don't know how yet how I'll do that, but time will tell.
July 16, 201311 yr Author I'm facing the exact same problem as you did Bob:) The rear of the SSD is too heavy and is moving a bit down..gotta rethink the back of the ship to make it stronger, don't know how yet how I'll do that, but time will tell. The frame on the rear in the lxf file I sent you isn't strong enough. I modified it when brickbuilding and I think I found a good solution, but I'll wait to have the upper city built to see if it's strong enough.
September 7, 201311 yr Hi Bob Magnificent SSD so far, I have been very disappointed with my 10221 and have been looking around for better versions. I would love to get a copy of you lxf file and try it out. How can I get a copy of the file from you. Greg
September 9, 201311 yr Author My version of the SSD isn't finished, and I don't want to share the instructions for until I'm completely satisfied with it. You should look for Anio's one here
September 25, 201311 yr Bob! Dont share the instructions! Sell them! I mean! Im not telling you to be a greedy b******d but you have made some nice LEGO creations of your own For the regular LEGO fan, its impossible to think about spending 400-500 euros on a model that is just virtual and will just crumble into pieces when its brick mounted. So, to avoid that and give us (people who follow your work) the chance of having what you have in our shelfs to display to ourselfs and our friends its more than obvious that you should get money support from us in order that you could buy and test your own creations before releasing the instructions! I would even donate to you to keep this thing on the table and one day have one myself. Consideer it. Btw, im also fan of your MOC http://www.eurobrick...opic=86691&st=0 And im waiting for your answer to what i asked you there, im up to build one but i have been analizing the .lxf and i find it to be... not to strong to hold on together when its mounted Big hug mate :) Edited September 26, 201311 yr by Lobot Please use appropriate language
September 26, 201311 yr Author For me Lego is a hobby. I'd prefer to build with real bricks, but I only have old bricks, in old colors, and not with the modern shapes... So I build digitally. It's both a pleasure to design the model and to share it with the community, that's why I've always shared the lxf files. I'm not into selling instructions, because if I ever come to selling them, I'd like to have a model that is actually buildable, of quality, strong, etc... And that's something I can't verify with LDD, even though I tried to design models that can deal with gravity, friction and all the things the real bricks are exposed to. That why I often tell people who want an Executor to build Anio's one, because I know it's a very nice model with great instructions. It's my opinion, and I obviously don't blame people who sell instructions! The drawback is that I need money to buy bricks, and selling instructions could be a way to earn some money... But as I explained, I don't want to sell instruction for a model I don't have actually built! When I built the Executor, I've made lots of improvements, like how to attach the top hulls, add somee strength to the rear section to limit the bending etc... I don't want to sell instructions to people and let them discover afterward that the model is unbuildable or fall appart after a few hours. Since I can't but all the parts to build the Zenith, I'm dismantking the Executor... And I feel bad about it as it's like an unfinished work. But it's been a year that I've come back to Lego, and I find the SSD a bit plain and "easy", that's why I'll try to build the Zenith which I think is a more beautifull model to display IMG_20130924_234703 by BobDeQuatre, on Flickr And that's a boring wall of text Edited September 26, 201311 yr by Bob De Quatre
September 26, 201311 yr Nice one, ill keep coming on zenith thread on a daily basis to see how the work is going cause i would really love to have a zen on my wall, its a masterpiece, what you did! As long it holds together and dont fall apart of course hehe, so yeah, i really hope you can improve the design to make a stable one and someday ill have this one aswell on my living room stating: " Zenith escort cruiser by Bob De Quatre " :D
September 26, 201311 yr Hi Bob, I'm sad to see this unfinished, but I understand your reasoning. If you're looking for a new project how about a Classic Star Destroyer using parts that are currently available!! I'm always on the lookout for a new project to Bricklink..... Cheers, Robin
September 27, 201311 yr Author Thanks Lobot I'll see how the Zenith building goes. If I can't afford it, I think I'll go back to building the Executor. And if I manage to build the Zenith, and I want to start a new project, I think I'll go back to the Executor
