Graysmith Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Definitely liking this a lot more after seeing the Designer Video and the additional images. Still not completely sold on that blue colour for the house, but it's obviously a fantastic model. Nice to see that the empty back of the truck has a use too. Still, that price is making me hesitate. It's certainly not too much for what you get, but it's still a significant purchase compared to previous Winter Village sets. Hopefully it'll be available on sale after Christmas. Quote
mistiqueallie Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong - but are the bricks forming the foundation, 1x2 tan bricks, a new mold with the brick/mortar look on them? I have never seen them anywhere before. You can see them clearer on the video when he shows the "toolshed". Looking forward to this set, but kind of disappointed it's not to the same scale and the truck doesn't have the same nostalgic feel of the post-office truck. A Quote

Yeah, the "brick brick" is a 2012 novelty. It has been used in a quite a few sets this year. Quote

There's a few dozen in there(in light grey). I love this new brick. The plow does look old, not quite as old as 10222's truck, however. I don't get why there's a lot of complaining about the building being bigger(not relating to price)...not every building in a town are the same size... Quote
wooootles Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 I think it's cool how Jamie's speaking almost directly to MOCers---mentions of having the black lightpost, dark green windows, dark blue tiles, brick-bricks, etc... This set is a guaranteed buy Quote
merman Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 The black lamp post is not a novelty. It was also in 10222 Winter Post Office Quote
GRogall Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 (edited) The black lamp post is not a novelty. It was also in 10222 Winter Post Office All of the Winter Village Buildings have black lamp post, but only this set has the same one used in the modulars, just black! on second look! "You're Right!" Super Brick Collector Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 This is a really nice set. I wish I got the first ones that came out. I could've built a nice lil Christmas town for the holidays. Quote
Gryphon Ink Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Well, I was worried about the rumors of a price bump, but I have to say this looks like an epic set and a must-buy for me even at a higher price than the other WV sets. The house is beautiful, and the old-school snowplow truck is just awesome. Lots of really interesting parts use in building the sled and the plow. I don't find the minifigs too generic. I think they have just enough variety. I do wish TLG would stop using that green overall/red shirt body, and that one kid with the modern ski jacket and bike helmet looks kind of out of place in the Winter Village timeframe, but overall pretty good minifigs. And a cat! I love this cat! Quote
Lord Insanity Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Overall I think this set is an awesome addition too the Winter Village line. I am kind of bummed by the higher price point but at least the set has the substance to justify it. I would have preferred dropping the shed and a couple figs for a lower price point though. The biggest let down to me is the roof. I don't like the all white roof idea simply because the undersides of overhangs should not be white. Snow doesn't magically stick to the underside of a roof after all. (nor should the roof be "made" out of snow) The Post Office roof was perfect. If you want thicker snow just add more white plates and/or tiles but the base roof itself should not be white. As I posted here I modded my Toy Shop and Bakery to have only some snow cover like the Post Office. I will definitely be doing the same to the new cottage. I might have to make a full coating of snow on top of the roof to see how that looks. Quote

JopieK Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 thanks, study too much so I don't read the topics in detail these days (weak excuse of course) ;) Quote
TheLegoDr Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 The more I see this cottage, I am loving it. I wasn't expecting to like the medium blue walls with the dark green window frames, but I am really liking it. It adds a nice whimsical touch to everything. With that said, I do agree with Lord Insanity about the roofing. I actually like the all white roof, but I don't care for the heavy snow piles underneath the ledge. But I can understand why they did it because it does look like a big snowstorm hit, so kudos to TLG for that one. I don't mind how the updated versions Lord Insanity did with the non-snow covered roof, but I do think I prefer a completely snow covered roof. There is something about that all-white roof that I like. Either way, I am excited for this release! Quote
Aredhel Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 Seems to be a really nice set with very many details you can combine with the other Winter sets. For example the lights at the top of the roof fit very good to the big outside Xmas tree of the Winter Toy Store and all those little details make cottage really cozy. A winter church would be great too in future maybe with a sort of open tower at the top where you can see the bell too. -Aredhel Quote
Multiverse Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 The set has now appeared on the Danish S@H. The price is 899 DKK, and the release date is October 1st. Quote

Gryphon Ink Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 The lights are featured in all the sets. It wouldn't be Christmas without lights! Actually, there is no string of lights in the Post Office set. Quote
Spider-Man Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Does anybody know what kind of truck this one is modeled after? I would like to see an actual picture of one Thanks for any help/insight! Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Thank you very much for the information and the pics, grogall! That cottage does look absolutely  ! This set is definately the best set of the Winter series so far (the post office was with its poor interior the worst one)! I personally prefer to pay more and therefore even get a decent interior like in this set than the other way round. Plus the Winter set is the only set for every year I must get - better I pass on other sets. Con: -no modern truck -boring overused torso used for the truck driver Pro: -eight minifigures -whole grandfamily -nice sled -excellent exterior design of cottage, shed and igloo -amazing interior details in the cottage, shed and igloo -even interior on the second floor -(not perfect but) good price performance ratio I can't await to get this set! It's a real must-have and a great addition to the Winter theme! Klaus-Dieter Quote

Klaus-Dieter Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Having been anxiously awaiting your comment, and wandered if you would like the set? since it has everything you wanted in the Winter Village series! Indeed! Where you on vacation? No. I check EB nearly every day, but in the last time I firstly was ill, then I had a lot to do at work and now I'm preparing for moving to a new home. But you can always count on my comment - at least anytime. Klaus-Dieter Quote
