Sandman does technically exist in the regular DCU, but they do try to minimize this connection. Aside from John Constantine there are few connections. A brief Justice League tie in very early in the series and an Infinity inc. link near the end. It also ties directly in with a lot of old classic DC horror comics. House of Mysteries, House of Secrets, etc.

It will be unbelievably hard to bring Sandman to the screen. I'm actually surprised Gaiman would even be involved. More than any other book Sandman was trying to stretch what could be done with the comic medium itself. Not just in the stories it told, but how they were told. Framing sand structures and such. Much of it will be impossible to translate to live action without seeming stupid. It's something that might actually have worked much better as an animated feature. And I just can't seem to wrap my head around JGL as Morpheus. He's a great actor. But not really the role for him. Of current actors who might be able to pull off the strange cold aloof arrogance of Dream of the Endless, mixed with the underlying fascination with and slowly learned compassion for humanity? I'm not sure? Maybe Benedict Cumberbach? I could see him as the purveyor of dreams and nightmares. The final issue of the movie is the fact that it is a movie. It would take multiple movies to even begin to do it right. The story has a very set and definitive arc and a clear and unequivocal ending. It would be better in a longer form such as Game of Thrones or Walking Dead. Add to this that it is the polar opposite of everything that Nolan and Hoyer bring to their comic movies. We already saw their take on Dreams in Inception. That could not be in any way further from Morpheus and the Endless if they had actually tried. I don't think either man is wired for something like this.

I don't know a darned thing about Sandman, but I have flicked through one of the large comics at my library and it looked like some pretty tripy stuff! I'm not sure WHO would have the skill to bring that to the big screen. Maybe Tim burton? :ugh:

I would go with Guilermo del Toro if I had the choice. But Burton would not be bad.

Yes! I would go with Guillermo del Toro for almost anything. I still wish we had gotten his version of the Hobbit instead of PJ's.

Otherwise it would feel like wasted opportunities really.

That one sentence has pretty much summed up WB's movie divisions approach to DC for at least the past 20 years.

Not sure if this is common knowledge or anything, but it was confirmed by Geoff Johns that the TV and movie universes are separate.

Well that's a shame, If DC wants the Flash or Green Arrow for a Justice League film now they'll have to cram them into a already overflowing schedule and risk confusing people who know the characters from on-going shows.

I just don't get why they wouldn't use the TV universe given how popular Arrow has been. I don't think we'll see a cinematic Green Arrow for a long while now. Flash will probably get a movie though because he's pretty crucial to the Justice League.

Didn't they create the whole 'Gotham' idea just so a Batman TV series didn't get mixed up with the Film Batman.

Indecently will Gotham have anything to do with Arrow or Flash?

I believe the creators said that Gotham exists in it's own universe. I don't remember where I saw it, but I do remember reading it somewhere.

This has the feeling of being a big clustered mess. The movies have their own universe, Flash and Green Arrow have their own universe, and now Gotham will have it's own universe as well? Hopefully DC knows what they are doing because introducing the same character in a bunch of different universes seems like a dumb strategy to me.

The thing with Gotham is that it's just a generic Batman prequel, so it very well could exist in any of the universes. Plus it won't really focus on any of the characters in any of the other universes besides Bruce Wayne's origins.

I'm also guessing that Constantine will be in its own universe too since it's on a different network (NBC) than Gotham (FOX) and Arrow/Flash (CW)

I think that looks good! Much more of a nice comic version that the Nolan suit. Doesn't have a yellow belt, though, but that's probably to try and tone down the suit so it can fit with the darker MoS suit.

Well that look stupid. I think Nolan's Batman has to have been the smartest Superhero in a long time, actual armour, black / grey with no accents, an actual swivel head. Thank god that's not an official photo.

The enormity of the logo on his chest really bothers me, although I'm guessing they wanted it to be around the same size as Supermans.
