Yeah, saw the Scott McNairy photos of him with green screen socks. They're really stuffing a lot of new to movies characters in this movie.

Shazam confirmed, Dwayne Johnson's in it though (don't know him too well to be ecstatic or mortified  )

When it comes to The Rock, it is kinda safe to be both at the same time. he is one of those guilty pleasure actors. Yeah he is a cheesy over the top ex wrestler often doing standard Schwarznegeresque fare, but he does it well, and he is kinda fun to watch. I find I have several of his movies on my "guilty pleasure" list that will be watched whenever they pop up. His Scorpion King is what the Conan remake should have been. he has a good sense of humor and is never afraid to make fun of himself.

As far as Shazam? I am not sure what to make of the casting. If he is the main role of Shazam it probably indicates that they are going a lot more towards a lighter campier approach. I can't see him working well as a serious Shazam. It could be good, but it leaves open the potential for a "Tooth Fairy Super Hero movie". BUT He is also near perfect for the role of Black Adam, Shazam's greatest foe. And He can be an awesome villain. Plus in truth Black Adam is a much juicier and more nuanced character. Shazam (Captain Marvel) himself? His other main villain has described him in the comics as "Captain Whitebread" for the past 70+ years. There really is not much there.

I thought Dwayne was really good in Pain & Gain, He'd make a rather decent Black Adam, imo.

I think he's a much better Black Adam too, IMHO. Black Adam could be played as a cheesier bad guy, and I think that he could do that better than Shazam himself. Shazam has always seemed like a risky project for a film, seeing as you'd have to get a good young actor and a good action hero too.

The skin tones alone make him for a better Black Adam too. Also, if it's like most single comic book movies, we won't have to worry too much about the depth of the Villain's character and the acting. But seeing as he is an A-List draw-money-making-cash-cow then it seems likely he will be Shazam

I'm surprised he actually chose the role he might be good for and not the role that would land him a multi-movie deal. Props to you, the Rock.

Well Black Adam will most likely be a multimovie role. Even if they kill Adam at the end of the film, they'll most likely resurrect him with magic or something. Plus I could see them putting him in an injustice league or Legion of Doom.

Supergirl may be getting her own TV show, wonder if it's set in the DCCU, or better yet - The DCTVU

Why would the TV universe be better you ask? Let's say that Supergirl gets 2 series, those episodes could introduce some major DC players such as Superman and Superboy, I'm excited for Superboy in particular, if he becomes popular enough, we could get a live-action Young Justice show with him Arsenal (Colton Haynes) and whoever gets picked to play Wally West. A brighter future may be just around the corner for the fans

It'd definitely be set in the DCTVU seeing as how the Flash and Arrow producer is working on it. I'm also not so sure Superman will appear in this show. That'd confuse people who are fans of the movies and don't understand they're separate universes. The show would also apparently be "a new interpretation of the Supergirl character and her story." so it probably won't be anything like Supergirl..

Are they allowed to have Superman in a TV series or is he under an embargo? I understood it that certain characters are under embargo's since, they are either getting or have film series. I know you can mention them or have Easter eggs pointing towards them, but actual appearances are forbidden.

From what I've read, it's going to be seperate. DC's building a great multi-universe aren't they... :hmpf_bad:

Supergirl won't be on the CW, since they passed on it apparently, and so it won't be part of the same universe as Arrow/Flash. And it's also not a part of the new Gotham series, which itself is not apart of anything either. Also Constantine is on it's own (Although honestly I think it should be; it's type and style is just too out there to fit with costumed heroes).

To be honest, I don't understand the idea behind a Supergirl show. I feel like it would just be a gender-swapped Smallville. And if Superman is not going to show up...then we loose the whole family dynamic that's important to her character. I don't understand DC's strategy with their shows; if they're not going to be connected to the films, why do they need to be connected to each other. Arrow is a grounded show (Trying to be realistic, but that's another thing I could talk about forever) and connecting it to a more meta-human Flash show is just strange; especially after being grounded to start with.

I don't know, I just miss the good old days of DC TV...when everything was animated. Can't we just get Bruce Timm and Paul Dini to make all the live action stuff? Heck, just take one of the Justice Leauge episodes and make it live a action movie--it would be amazing!

It better be the one where Flash and Luthor swap bodies

AWESOME!

Shame it's not with Arrow and Flash. They would have worked well together (whereas I think Gotham and Constantine are very different and would be better on their own). Hopefully they will do it right and it will create a wave of teen titans love! :D

I have to say after seeing the premeire of Fox's Gotham, I'm very exicted for the future of the show--especally considering I was very iffy on the concept. It was very engaging and it seemed far better produced than that teen drama that is Arrow.

Off the bat, pun-intended, I love Robin Lord Taylor as Penguin! He’s so interesting and he fits really well for what would be a young Cobblepot. I’ve only seen him act thus far in the Walking Dead (For like five minutes), but he’s phenomenal here. And I think it’s very interesting how he snaps when called Penguin—I only hope and I’m sure we will, see the point when he embraces the name as his villain-pseudonym. I was half expecting him to become somewhat deformed due to frostbite from the Gotham river, but that might be expecting too much from the first episode!

Acting wise, I thought it was topnotch compared to the other live action superhero shows thus far. Ben McKenzie makes a great Gordon (Granted he needs a stash!), and I think Donal Logue makes a decent Bullock, although I think I’m too inclined to expect the Animated Series version; whose far more inept! I was a bit surprised to see Montoya, since like the Animated series I expected her to be younger (And thus not present yet), I didn't like that she’s portrayed as somewhat suspect at this point.

Jada Pinkett Smith’s Fish Mooney is a very nice and “realistic” character for Gotham. She fits right in, and I think will work as a good, I guess filler character (Though that sounds a bit too negative), until some of the other villains like Penguin come into their own. I’m already thinking about brick options to make her into Lego! Seeing the Riddler at the GCPD works well too, although I thought it was a bit heavy handed to point out that he keeps using riddles, especially in a two second conversation.

Some of the other villain references were ok to meh. Catwoman this early seems a bit weird to me, especially since she’s normally younger than Bruce, but more so that she’s already up to jumping around rooftops. Although it was nice that they showed she’s not a super good thief yet, since she was spotted pickpocketing. I don’t think the subtle Ivy reference was needed, and I’d be fine if we just never saw her again until an actual Poison Ivy shows up. And was I the only one to think the comedian was a subtle Joker hint? I’m sure that guy’s not the Joker, but that whole comedy set just gave me flashbacks to the Killing Joke.

I think the only actor I’m not fond of is Falcone. I think I was expecting someone looking and feeling more like Falcone from the Long Halloween—this actor just doesn’t give the Italian mob boss vibe.

With all that said, I’m very excited for this show after seeing the pilot! I think that as long as Gotham can avoid the feeling like it’s just waiting for Batman & Friends, it’ll be very successful—and it’ll be keeping my eyes fixed on it!

Gotham has to have had the most entertaining Pilot of a show in recent years. I don't remember the last time a new show has hooked me this fast (I love Arrow, and even that first season was pretty iffy). Penguin seems great, and I love the relationship going on between Gordon and Bullock. The Ivy and Riddler references were kind of boring and unnecessary for me, but it's nice to see that they're open to other stories besides this Penguin/Fish Mooney thing that's going on now. It was also nice to see the obligatory mourning stage of Bruce and Alfred from a new side that wasn't all centered around them. For a show that I wasn't really excited for, I am very excited to see where it's going.

I think a big reason that I enjoyed this pilot so much is that it was able to dive right in to the meat of the story without wasting time over-introducing it's characters. Already, it seems we get the Penguin's origin without having to wait around for a few episodes to get a good look at him. Already, it seems he has the limp and a little hunch. There's also the whole Falcone thing set up with him running the town and the GCPD that's very promising.

The Gotham premiere was pretty good for what it was, but I'm still not convinced that it can effectively distract from the fact that it is a Batman show without Batman. In fact, it seems to go out of its way to throw out subtle and not-so-subtle references every minute or so to remind you that this show is a Batman origins story. I hope they only did this for the pilot to get people's attention and that the whole show wont be just one big Bat-tease as I feel like it will otherwise just end up disappointing its fans when you don't actually get to see these characters become the villains you know and love. It certainly seems like it will be a good cop show, but if it will be a good Batman show remains to be seen. Considering this is DC's answer to Marvel's Agents of SHIELD, it's better than that show, I'll give it that, although that's not a big achievement. Bullock and Penguin were definitely the standouts here, and Mooney and Gordon were pretty good too. The good acting along with the high production value give this show some promise, so I'll keep watching even though I'm only cautiously optimistic.

I was half expecting him to become somewhat deformed due to frostbite from the Gotham river, but that might be expecting too much from the first episode!

Well, he did get his waddle from Mooney's beating, so that's at least something.

Montoya, since like the Animated series I expected her to be younger (And thus not present yet), I didn't like that she’s portrayed as somewhat suspect at this point.

Yeah, that threw me off too, but I don't mind the age change.

I think the only actor I’m not fond of is Falcone. I think I was expecting someone looking and feeling more like Falcone from the Long Halloween—this actor just doesn’t give the Italian mob boss vibe.

I agree with this as well. Not saying they should give him the somewhat stereotypical depiction he has in the comics, but he seemed kind of boring for a mob boss.

I’m already thinking about brick options to make her into Lego!

That shouldn't be too hard. Movie version Karai's hair is pretty much perfect for her.

That reference was about as subtle as a batarang to the head. In fact, it was so obvious that I wouldn't be surprised if that was just a diversion and the actual Poison Ivy is yet to appear in the show. Same goes for that "joker". I also noticed some Harley Quin-like dancers in that club, but those are probably nothing more than an Easter egg too.

As for the live-action Titans, I am not sure how they're gonna pull it off on a TV budget, but it can't be worse than Teen Titans Go! right?

Personally, I thought Gotham was awful. This team has a long way to go in terms of writing. The characters were weak, the constant references were obnoxious, and the tone was all over the place. Let me elaborate:

1. "Holy references, Batman! Is everyone Gordon encounters going to be an important villain in the future?"

Let's think about this for a moment: Penguin, Catwoman, The Riddler, Poison Ivy, and possibly the Joker were all seen in one episode. Not only that, but they're all connected to each other through Gordon. Isn't it really convenient that Poison Ivy's dad was framed for the Wayne murders? Did the writers just put that in so there could be a scene where a seven year old Pamela Ivy Ivy Pepper waters some plants? Probably. The show comes off as taking place in a huge city with the population of around twenty.

2. Subtlety is a Virtue

Jeez. This show loves to hit you over the head-kind of like Jada Pinkett does to her henchmen! The show is so bogged down in cutesy exchanges like: "'Yeah, Penguin.' 'You know I don't like to be called that!'" and "My little Penguin..." We get it. Oswald will come to be known as the Penguin. I thought it was a pretty interesting move to have Oswald hurt and stranded by the end of the episode, but in the back of my mind, I was worried that he was only put in that situation as a set up for a waddling penguin joke. I should have trusted my instincts. Low and behold, the clip for the next episode starts with someone saying: "Did anyone ever tell you that you walk like a penguin?" I bet the writers think they're very clever. And then there's Catwoman: the show actually starts with her stealing a bottle of milk, and, in a clip for episode two, she tells a kid in juvy to "go for the eyes" and makes some cat claw motions. I GET IT. SHE'S CALLED CATWOMAN! Also, did she have to wear the costume so soon? Is it just me or does a leather-clad 14 year old Catwoman with hi-tech goggles look utterly ridiculous?

3. Gotham is just a sound stage

Really. 90% of the sets are small, narrow, alleyways and it mostly takes place at night. It just screams sound stage. Some NON-CG wide shots would really help show how big the city actually is.

4. Unnecessary changes

I know this is small, but did Pamela Ivy's name have to be changed to Ivy Pepper? Both cheesily foreshadow their future villainous personas. It seems like the writers just changed her name for the sake of shaking things up.

I believe that her name (in comics) is Pamela Isley. I agree with ya on that Monty. Makes the nerds angry... Hey, if it doesn't do well it gets canceled
