CMP Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 (edited) Just saw BvS. I'm speaking as someone who has never seen a full DC movie before, including Man of Steel. It wasn't as remotely as bad as critics say. Granted, basically every critique they had was warranted, but it didn't make the movie as unwatchable as they make it out to be. I will say that unlike the Marvel movies they did a good job of setting things up for people who don't know anything about MoS and the DC universe and general (where these latest Marvel movies can be very overwhelming if you don't know what's going on). The beginning sequence with Batman's origin was extremely well-done, as well as the bit with Bruce Wayne running through Metropolis. "Here's who Batman is, here's who Superman is, this is what happened in Man of Steel, this is why Batman doesn't like him." Justice League reference felt unbelievably shoe-horned in. I knew it was coming and it was still just unnecessary as all hell. They could've not mentioned anyone else until the conversation between Bruce and WW and it would've been a lot better. It's just kind of a given for the future, just like Superman coming back from the dead..... The scenes jumped around way too much. None of them felt RUSHED, per se, but there's just so many unconnected bits. Ten seconds of Lex talking to a guy, ten seconds of Bruce Wayne chatting with Alfred, jump back to Lex. It's really easy to get kind of lost. I didn't get what was going on with WW until late in the movie. I'm still not one hundred present on where the hell Lex was to make Doomsday. I guess on the ship? Action sequences were very well done, but good lord, Batman must've killed, like, thirty people just in that car chase. I also REALLY enjoyed the courtroom scene. legosamsonite Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 (edited) Saw bvs last night. It was fine but i hate that bats was a brander and murderer, i get he's older and craby but still, he doesn't kill even in the dark knight returns Edited April 2, 2016 by legosamsonite Quote

Khscarymovie4 Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 I saw BVS last week, I just never got around to sharing my thought on it here. I did not like it. The Justice League were thrown in the movie, it was out of place and really just felt like a set up for the JL movie coming next year. The film jumps from scene to scene way to much. Jessie Eisenberg as Lex Lurthor was absolutely atrocious, he would have been a great Riddle, but as Lex he is just way to cartoony. Theres something else I would like to talk about but it's a spoiler, and I don't know how to use spoiler tabs. Overall this is how the DCEU ranks up for me. 1. Man Of Steel (A bit underrated movie I think.) 2. Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice Quote
CM4Sci Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 [ spoiler] blah blah blah [ / spoiler] No spaces. I saw BvS with my family, and even my younger brother thought the first half was too jumpy. My family thought Jesse was the best actor out of all of them. I still liked the movie! Oh well... opinions... Quote
Khscarymovie4 Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 The death of Superman was handled so poorly. I did not feel sad at all, and no one actually thought he was dead. Everyone knew he was going to come back. The worst thing is now we will never get a proper death of Superman movie. Quote
HawkLord Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Saw BvS and was disappointed. I walked in wanting to like it, but I just couldn't get there. For me, the problem areas were: Batman - boring. So much angst about being Batman, but no real reason given. I was hoping there'd be some flashback about what happened to the (Robin/Nightwing) suit that Joker marked, but no. Instead, Batfleck was just angry all the time. Superman - also boring. I get that most of his character was built in the previous movie, but he felt really phoned in. Obviously this is not the Christopher Reeves' Superman, but would it kill them to at least give him some levity? Out of all three, he should be the most able to crack a smile or joke or at least present some optimism. Wonder Woman - not terrible. The drums every time she appeared got old real quick, as did the WWII picture. Why would there be a picture of a Greek warrior (obviously) in WWII and no one taking about it? Lois Lane - her bullet story did nothing for her character and she needed saving three different times. Female role model or damsel in distress? Why would you throw a Superman killing spear in a pool in some abandoned building? The thing can kill your husband, wouldn't you make sure it was gone for good? Justice League - forced and with such little amount of screen time, I didn't feel a need to care. Aquaman stabs undersea robots while living in a broken down shipwreck. I'm betting his movie is going to feel like Thor's with "funny" scenes of him discovering modern life. Flash was ok. Cyborg was weird if you didn't know who he was - I bet most people thought it was a mad scientist performing some sick experiment. I didn't feel the "oh, wow, they're coming together!" It felt a lot like the end of Harry Potter when they talk about finding all the Horcuxes. Doomsday - needlessly big. It would have been so much better if he was the same size as in the comic and he and Supes had a knocked-down, drag-out Rocky style fight. Again like the comic. Considering we just saw Supes shake off a nuclear bomb to the face, it didn't seem unlikely that he would live. And given how quickly they covered the funeral, it didn't feel real or heavy enough. Darkseid - no set-up. Unless you were a comic fan, this all would have flown over your head. At least Marvel prepped Thanos several times and even casual fans could tell he was a heavy. Overall, just too much material in a small package. Too soon for Supes death. Let the character rack up some wins and form the Justice League and then his death would have weight. As it is, he was in one movie and I didn't feel attached enough to him. Especially since the world around him didn't seem to care either. When Supes died in the comics, he was a hero of the universe and every superhero mourned. In the movie he died less than that and only two superheroes were there. Much less gravity than it could had. DC needs to slow down. They're not going to catch Marvel in time to head-to-head with Infinity War, so they might as well play the long game and prep everything for after that. Quote
Ceroknight Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Hal Jordan, John Stewart AND Kyle Rayner are all going to be in the GL Corps movie! Quote
Actor Builder Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 I've recently been getting into the DC film universe fandom, and I really liked Batman Meets Superman. I watched Superman (Man of Steel) the night before going to see Batman Meets Superman, and even though I really disliked Superman, it was forgivable when seen right before Batman Meets Superman. All the chaotic unnecessary amateur-seeming camera tricks (Like the random zooming) felt like they were just setting up a "I don't like Superman. He's reckless." feel for the audience to better appreciate Batman Meets Superman. I also noticed that Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman each seem to have distinct styles of cinematography for their scenes. It will be interesting to see if this continues for other characters and other films. Superman's style of camerawork was chaotic and jumpy and disjointed, Batman's was the common action movie shaky style, and Wonder Woman's was a lot smoother and more deliberate. And my gosh, Lex Luther was the best. The. Best. Better than Heath Ledger's Joker, in my opinion. I absolutely loved it. If nothing else, see it for the brilliantly played Lex Luther. Quote
Im a brickmaster. Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 (edited) Well I told a friend of mine I'd go see go see Dawn of Justice with him (he was kinda bummed I seen it first) so we shall see if it improves the 2nd time around or nah. I'm guessing nah... Begin edit! So! The 2nd viewing left me feeling the same...sort of. I honestly enjoyed it a lot more then when I first saw it, mostly because I could just watch it, listen to the score (which is great by the way) instead of try to absorb the whole thing. On his first viewing my very non DC fan friend agreed with us that, well, it's kind of a hot mess! If you didn't know anything other then "oh that's batman, oh that's superman" then you will be confused by this most defiantly at least once. I think, personally, that there are moments/clips/scenes that are pretty good. Or at the least well done, but the movie as a whole is just riddled with agggghhh. You watch it and you don't know what to think! That's bad! And it makes me very curious how pretty much everyone I've met who's seen it has the same feelings about? So did YOU walk out of it feeling agggghhh? I'm I right wrong or purple?! Edited April 26, 2016 by Im a brickmaster. Quote

Out of all three, he should be the most able to crack a smile or joke or at least present some optimism. In Supes defense, considering he wasn't exactly being welcomed or trusted...he was hated. I could see why he wasn't in a 'cracking' mood, smile or joke. Also, as to Batman & the Robin suit, perhaps that will be addressed in his solo movie. Quote
Zilcho Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 Ultimate cut trailer looks like it should fix a lot of the film's flaws. Very excited as someone who enjoyed the theatrical cut. Quote
PicnicBasketSam Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 ...but not the flaws of extremely quick, jumpy scenes and the whole "can't see anything because it's pitch-black and raining" thing? Quote
NXS7 Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 ...but not the flaws of extremely quick, jumpy scenes and the whole "can't see anything because it's pitch-black and raining" thing? True. This is why Civil War is my favourite movie; the Airport scene is so clear and jump free Quote
Leo604 Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/ben-affleck-happy-batman-script/story?id=40040351 So it seems Ben Affleck is taking his time with the script for the next Batman movie. Personally I'm thrilled; I really liked The Town when I first watched it in high school, so I'm fairly confident in what he'll direct/produce for us (more so than Zack Snyder, to state the obvious). I was also pleasantly surprised by how good of a Batman he was so soon after the Dark Knight trilogy, but credit also goes to the cinematographers with that Arkham Asylum-esque fight scene. If DC plays this right they can still salvage what's left of their cinematic universe. Quote
Lego4366 Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 (edited) Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realise I was talking about Rotten Tomatoes. I don't really like RT for that reason anyway. It deals in absolutes, like a Sith. true! lol The death of Superman was handled so poorly. I did not feel sad at all, and no one actually thought he was dead. Everyone knew he was going to come back. PicnicBasketSam Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 Here it was different. Now, I don't remember much of my surroundings during that dumpster fi--I mean, um, movie--except for a 5-year-old girl who was alternatively freaked out and confused as hell, but there was no crying at Superman's "death." My friends and I started picking the movie apart before we left the building. And they're all bigger DC fans than me! Quote
Bricky Dee Williams Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 (edited) So director Zack Snyder keeps revealing more and more about the Justice League film, which is still only in Part I photography and filming. He's reveleaed there's a "big sequence" to end the first movie with a "cliffhanger." If this...let's call it 'marketing," continues like that of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, we'll have the whole movie reveleaed when the first trailer drops! DC needs to hold back their people, or they're bound for disaster sooner or later. We knew the three-act setup for BvS, just by two trailers, and now we already know the basis for the film's ending: I believe it's a fight and a (hmmph) "death" or a fight and a villain reveal. PicnicBasketSam Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 Wasn't JL supposed to be just one movie now? I'm so confused... and TLG's DC division is probably going berserk with all the changes going on, considering this movie comes out next November. Quote

I'm so confused... and TLG's DC division is probably going berserk with all the changes going on, considering this movie comes out next November. Indeed. I just looked up the DCEU slate on Wikipedia, and sure enough it's now "Justic League" and "Untitled Justice League sequel" rather than Part I and Part II. Quote
PicnicBasketSam Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 What? So, it's the same two movies as before but marketed differently, basically.... still, X and X: The Sequel sounds much better than X Part 1 and X Part 2. Ah well. I'm still looking forward to them for some reason. Quote
Actor Builder Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 That's an odd change to make. I suppose it's so they can make more Justice League sequels without having to name them with roman numerals. Justice League part VIII would be a bit of a turn off. Quote
Ceroknight Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 That's a much better move I think. All this ridiculous part 1 part 2 movies usually result in 'half sequels' that were made to milk the movie that could have been cut to one movie or they didn't have enough to make something to be justified as a proper sequel. Has anyone watched the extended version of BvS yet? Quote
