Today it was announced that in the next Man of Steel, Superman will team up with Batman! :sweet: Director Zack Snyder and screenwriter David Goyer will return for the film, which is expected to be released in 2015, pushing the Justice League movie back to 2017. No word yet on who will play Batman.

This is great news to me. I wasn't very impressed with MOS, but I do like the new interpretation of Superman, and I would love to see him finally team up with the Dark Knight on the big screen! The fact that the JL movie got pushed back is good, too, because it would have been too rushed if they would have released it in 2015 in my opinion. This way it gives more time for other solo movies like The Flash. Can't wait to see how this turns out!

Does anyone else think/hope that Christopher Nolan might have a change of heart and is willing to help in tying the sequel into post-TDKR canon? It would add a nice bit of continuity to the future Justice League, plus I'd like to see how JGL would do in the role.

Well, I for one am not, and this is pretty much why:

Plus I agree with Nolan that his more realistic Batman wouldn't really mix well with the world of MoS.

At the San Diego Comic Con International Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures Panel it was offically announced that the not only will there be a Man of Steel Sequel, but this sequel will be the a Superman and Batman team up movie! The World's Finest Movie is scheduled for a 2015 release date, pushing a Justice League movie release date up in time. However, it is rumored that the Justice League Movie was only pushed up to 2017 resulting in many reporting that a Flash movie will be released in 2016.

This is a lot of information for one day, and although The Justice League and Flash movies have not been offically confirmed by Warner Bros. it is likely that the information is true. As for the Superman and Batman Movie, this is offical information released by Man of Steel Director Zach Synder himself at the end of the WB and LP panel presentation.

So what do you all think of this information? I'm personally very excited for the release of these movies as it about time DC gets some attention from Hollywood. Concerning Legos though, I'm really looking foward to what lego can bring to the table as they did such a great job with the Man of Steel sets this year. I'm also excited for the fact that we'll be seeing an expansion of the Lego DC universe outside of Lego Batman in the near future.

Please post your thoughts and Comments, thanks!

I'm interested in the Man of Steel sequel! I just hope DC doesn't aim to make them like too much like The Avengers where it's not a very serious team-up movie. Though, I think JGL will be Batman.

Agreed, I'm really hopeful that WB will see the potential in Joesph Levitt Gordon playing Batman and cast him. Also, I highly doubt that WB would even want to do what Marvel did with the Avengers, but I really think at this point the Character Villain Darksied will be the one guy who can really bring at least Wonder Woman and Green Lantern into the Justice League similar to how the league was brought together for the first time in the New 52 Comics.

I find this a great announcement! I was fine with getting a MoS sequel, but getting one with Batman is even better. As stated earlier, I loved MoS so I expect the sequel to be good too, and I also think that really any films they can place in before Justice League will help greatly (Plus stop them from rushing the JLA movie just ride coattails of Marvel). And I'm very happy to finally see a Flash movie in the works, since I always see him as almost the Iron Man of DC, where a more light hearted funny movie would work very well for the character and his inclusion in the major team ups. (Anyone else think a Superman cameo in the Flash movie should be the two racing? That would be amazing!)

Does anyone else think/hope that Christopher Nolan might have a change of heart and is willing to help in tying the sequel into post-TDKR canon? It would add a nice bit of continuity to the future Justice League, plus I'd like to see how JGL would do in the role.

There’s no chance of that—and in fact I think Nolan has repeatedly stated that they will not be, nor he wants them to be, connected in the same continuity at all. And I think just as importantly, it would be basically impossible/unbelievable that they could exist in the same continuity with all the events that transpired in DK Rises. They have their own good thing starting, so I don't think grasping straws from the Nolan films will do any good.

Oh dear lord no. Nolan told some great stories, and gave us a really interesting real world'ish take on Batman. But his sensibilities, and particularly those from his trilogy of Batman films are completely in opposition to what will be needed to bring the full Justice League to the screen. Batman works with Dark gritty realism. It's a road that has been trod by many authors before Nolan. However the rest of the "Gods among us" that make up the bulk of the core Justice League really really don't.

I think they're doing this wrong. Introducing a new Batman in a Batman/Superman movie? They seem to want to rush to Justice League asap and I think that's going to bite them in the butt. Don't rush it!

Also I find the lack of Wonder Woman disturbing. I hope they don't trivialize her into a Black Widow/Hawkeye role. She NEEDS her own movie. And the idiots blocked Wedon from doing it... only to have him go and do freakin' Avengers. Bad move DC.

Yeah, I would also love Darkseid to be the villain in the JL movie, and since it has been pretty much confirmed now that Thanos will not be in Avengers 2, it's possible that it might happen! :sweet: However, they could also do it like in the cartoons where Martian Manhunter comes to Earth to warn them about an alien invasion. Of course that would be even more cliche and ripping off Marvel, but it would make sense in terms of bringing all these characters together. Still, crossing my fingers for Darkseid!

Right, because the Justice League movie will totally fail if we don't see Batman's origin story one more time. :sarcasm_smug: Seriously though, he's Batman. That's all you need to know. He's more or less always the same.

I do see your point about WW though. She is one of the main League members and never had a good movie made about her, so people wont have the connection to her than they did with the main four Avengers. However, she is not a very interesting character on her own these days and DC knows that. They've been trying to make a WW movie for years and could never settle on a script they liked. Who knows, maybe Whedon could have pulled it off, but maybe we're better off without a WW movie. I don't think putting her into a Widow/Hawkeye role (i.e. introducing her in a cameo in one of the other movies) is really possible, so I think they would have to introduce her in the JL movie. With the right director it could work, but it will be harder to pull off than with a solo movie. :sceptic:

Oh dear lord. MOS was bad enough. Now they're going to further cram it down our throats. Snyder's brooding yet arrogant prick Superman doesn't seem like he will play well with others.

Of course the movie will make shitzillions of dollars because Batman and Superman will be together. But it will likely be more of the same: great action movie with guys in funny costumes; lousy superhero movie.

Posted

This has the potential to be one of the best superhero movies ever, so let's hope they don't screw it up by:

1. Casting the wrong guy for Batman

2. Making it more comedy than it is action, although that could mean some much needed comedic development for Supes

3. Leaving out a fight scene between the two at some point in the movie, come on this needs to be done with Snyder's CGI magic!

Snyder's "CGI magic" is what nearly ruined Man of Steel in my eyes. The final battle scene was far too drawn out and over-the-top; this isn't just my opinion, either - I heard it from a lot of the people who left the theater slightly disappointed.

That said, I have high hopes for the Batman/Superman film. Let's hope they cast the right Bruce Wayne (*ahem* not JGL, aka John Blake), and that Snyder has learned a thing or two after doing MoS.

If Nolan isn't involved my prediction is that this movie will kind of suck. It feels like the writers at least partially kept this last movie together (mixed reviews!) and I feel that if Snyder had absolute control of the writing he would have just magnified the movie's problems (lack of development, too much eye candy not enough content) in that Snyder fashion. He's good at what he does but he just does it toooooo much.

I think DC has actually not rushed it at all as there not going straight to Justice League at this point and taking time to introduce Batman into the mix and the Flash therefore establishing your kind of Earth-bound characters at that point. Then in the Justice League movie, you could eaisly bring at least Wonder Woman and Green Lantern and even Martine Manhunter by having them come to earth and team up with Batman, Superman and the Flast to take on a major alien villain which would be Darksied.

I think they did go somewhat overboard on CGI, but I would have had that over a "Battle of Words." I think the World's Finest Movie will have less Big Battle scenes as I believe Batman and Superman will be fighting Lex Luthor. Concerning Batman though, I would much rather have JGL play Batman than intorducing an entire new one completely beucase I think, along with many others, that a charcters like Batman can't just come out of no where and start fighting. JLG's John Black has already been established in TDKR so why not just use him as a young inexperienced Batman? I have total faith at this point in writter David S. Goyer to bring these charcters to life though, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

A brief note for those who may be confused:

I have merged "New DC Movies Beginning in 2015" with this thread, which used to be "Man of Steel" to make this new "DC Comics Cinematic Universe" for all discussion pertaining to the movies being made in the DC comics universe.

Woo hoo! Thanks Pandora :sweet: DC has now made it to the big league! I'm excited to see where this goes. Hopefully a little competition will end in better Marvel and DC movies

I am personally against having Batman in the next Superman film. Cameos work better than actual roles, but the main problem that usually is the downfall of most comic book films (and shows) is either the over the top themes or too many characters all at once. I prefer Superman to have his own series of movies without some other hero hogging up the screen. Heroes should only share the screen with the villain. The TDK Trilogy did so well with that with Batman in control. Batman Forever as well as Batman & Robin are examples of too many heroes and too many villains, and it was smart for Nolan to introduce a Robin character with Batman leaving.

X-Men 3 is another example too many characters going on. If you look well enough, you will find they added a lot of characters. Spider-man 3 same thing. The Marvel movies, IMO, are getting real close on that line to the point where they end up becoming like the 90s Iron Man cartoon.

And then there is the issue of consistency. TDK is well established in this generation and ended on a good note. Do we really need to keep that going? And why recast the role? Just do without the character.

God no. I've had enough of Nolan doing Superhero films. TDKR is up there with Batman forever and Batman and Robin in terms of how bad they are. Nolan had a bit of input in MoS which was ok I really liked that film, but still no Nolan. One of the reasons the MCU works so well is that it's light hearted and while Grounded in places still has both humour and fantasy elements. If Nolan made Justice League they would have to hand out anti depressants at the door. I can see a point in the film where Supes says ' we have to save the world' only for the audience to shout out ' what's the point, just let us die' haha.

Certain characters like The Flash and Green lantern can lighten the mood, and could be similar to Tony Stark in terms of humour. The problem is Supes is very serious, Batman is incredibly serious, Aquaman is basically a God and Wonderwoman is a goddess. Most of the League isn't relatable and that may be a problem. Nolan would only add to this problem by making it more Dark and gritty.

These new films need to be different from the previous films. Personally I hope that we get the following.

No Batman origin

Establish that both Nightwing exists and Robin exist

Confrontation between Batman and Supes over the ending of MoS

Bruce Wayne as Batman

And lastly Kryptonite

I have no idea who should play Batman but I would like the following to play these roles

Bryan Cranston as Commissioner Gordon

John Cleese as Alfred

And I also think Matt Smith would look good as the Joker, I don't know what he would be like portraying him however.

All of those films ruined the current series for me. I won't explain the Schumacher films as they were awful by TDKR ruin Nolans series for me.

For me although Batman is a symbol Batman doesn't work without Bruce Wayne. It's personal for him as its his life's work trying to make Gotham safe so that, what happened to him won't happen to another Kid. Bruce is Batman and Batman is Bruce, Batman is the creation of both Wayne's intellect, resources and personal experience. Nolan instead based these films on the belief that Batman is a role that can be taken by anyone. In John Blakes case someone who killed two people.

This is why I love the idea of Nightwing because Bruce is to different from any potential future Batman. Bruce Wayne's drive to make Gotham safe comes from the fact that he can never really avenge his Parents deaths. Joe Chill is killed before Bruce can fully move on from his parents deaths. This is different from Nightwing who while as Robin apprehended Tony Zucco and justice was served. Nightwing got the closure and Bruce didn't, and that's where I think the characters drive comes from. Bruce will never give up until his mission has been completed ( which unfortunately will never happen).

In TDKR Bruce it's almost as if he is constantly looking for a way out. That's not Batman to me. There's a 8 year gap where Bruce Wayne has really given up. While the murders can be put on to Batman, I'm sure the majority of Gothamites don't believe it. I also don't understand why Batman wouldn't operate without the help of the police. To me it appears that Batman is really just sulking over the death of Rachel. Gotham would still need Batman, I'm sure there's still crime, Gordon even says that at the beginning of the film. Bruce with his intelligence would know this and would fight crime. It's clear that Bruce in the film doesn't want to be Batman anymore, even though the fight against crime isn't really over. Instead Bruce's personal fight against the Gotham criminals is handed to someone else. Plus Blake doesn't really have that same drive, while still an orphan he doesn't go through the same emotional story, or training. I can't imagine Gotham being safe in his hands. On top of that he doesn't have the same resources as Bruce, if he damages the B.A.T he's screwed. He would have to walk to the scene of the crime, he couldn't afford a new one.

While the tone of the Nolan films is right for Batman, I still feel that Robin and more super powered villains would work in that setting. Nolan felt differently and I respect his opinion, but he's made a Batman series. Does he really need to have a controlling share in the next one and all DC films? The answer is No, DC should try something new, there's no need to repeat the past.

Nolan instead based these films on the belief that Batman is a role that can be taken by anyone.

I take it you don't read the comics and and watch cartoons. Several people were Batman other than Bruce Wayne. Jean Paul Valley, Dick Grayson, Terry McGinnis, and even Superman were Batman at one point or another. Battle for the Cowl and Knightfall are fine examples of this as well. Batman was created as an incorruptable symbol that will always be long lasting, and this was established before Nolan even made Batman Begins. Even with the "death" of Batman in TDKR, he will always remain a symbol and everlasting in Gotham as shown in the ending of TDK and TDKR and beginning of TDKR. That was the point. It was more than just a guy putting on a bat costume.

Joe Chill is killed before Bruce can fully move on from his parents deaths.

Again, comics.

And comics.

Plus Blake doesn't really have that same drive,

Blake isn't Batman. He's Robin, and a combo of all 3. Nightwing and Robin wwere able to look after Gotham when Batman was away in the comics and cartoons and even video games.

The difference between the Shumacher movies and the Nolan movies is that B&R completely killed WB and the Batman franchise with fault going to both Warner Bros and Shumacher. Nolan however brought back that franchise and helped WB. If it wasn't for Nolan, we'd wouldn't even have Man of Steel and the thoughts of a JL movie.
