Fives Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 One of the major changes Jackson has made is the orcs. At the time of The Hobbit, Azog was dead, but without someone chasing them, a sense of greater danger doesn't exist. Sure, originally the elves of Mirkwood were hostile, almost wicked, characters, but since we have an expectation of what elves in Middle-Earth are like because of the LOTR films, the elves' hostility couldn't be the main danger in that section of the story. Having orcs chasing the dwarves is really cool, and having Azog gives Thorin an enemy to directly confront in battle. In the book, that isn't there. Also, people seem to have mixed feelings about Smaug. I for one am amazed, and think he looks fantastic! But I've also heard a rumour that this may not be the final design we see, which honestly makes no sense. Why would PJ allow Smaug to be revealed if it isn't the final version? Why put the time and money into something if its gonna be altered? The rumour may have no truth behind it whatsoever. I also mistook Beorn for one of the three heads of Fluffy from Harry Potter! General Magma Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 That was exactly my first impression as well! Same here, and I don't even like Harry Potter. Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Beorn is just a lot bigger than I was expecting. Let's hope he turns out well in the final film. Quote
Leo604 Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Been rewatching the trailer, can anyone pick out what Gandalf is saying after Radagalf yells 'What if it's a trap?!'? I've gone over it a bunch of times and I still can't figure it out. Quote
Fives Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 "It's undoubtedly a trap." Said Ackbar the Grey. Quote
medspa Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 the starting of the movie is more live to me rather than the book. it was really awesome. i like the movie as well as the book very much. Quote
SteampunkDoc Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 New blog, not sure on just what is new info/set glimpses, but it's a nice watch anyways and helps stave off the need for Hobbit-y goodness for a few more days.. Quote
SheepEater Posted July 14, 2013 Author Posted July 14, 2013 (edited) After looking at older promo images I just realized something http://images1.wikia...f/ThorinBIG.jpg Is it me, of Thorin kinda looked... very different in the actual movie? In the promo pic he looked way more grim, older, and has a different outfit... Movie http://images1.wikia...16/Thorin_2.jpg Edited July 14, 2013 by SheepEater Quote

gryffindorcommonroom Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 I'm just wondering wth is Legolas doing in the second movie. Quote
The Legonater Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 He's the son of Thranduil. He'd be around. Of all the changes Jackson has made, this is the one that makes the most sense. Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 It makes sense that he's around, sure. But I'll have to wait and see how much they overuse the character before casting a final judgment. The filmmakers are well aware of Legolas's popularity, and I'm a little afraid of them milking that for all it's worth. Quote

The filmmakers are well aware of Legolas's popularity, and I'm a little afraid of them milking that for all it's worth. I think he'll likely just be there doing bad megablocks elf things, like killing giant spiders in creative ways, much like his handiwork during the battle of the Hornburg or when he took down the Mumak. Plus, I think the relationship between Legolas and Thranduil is something that will be interesting to explore. It seems like there are gonna be two father/son stories in the second film: Legolas and Thranduil, Bard and Bain. Quote
SandMirror38 Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Anybody seen the extended edition clip of elrond? Quote
Lord Rahl of Clannad Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 (edited) Anybody seen the extended edition clip of elrond? It's a decent enough clip, but it was nothing unexpected. It was good for giving Bilbo some additional character development though. Edited August 1, 2013 by Star Wars NutJob 69 Quote

SteampunkDoc Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 https://www.facebook...102503469389096 Sorry, still looking for a Youtube link. It looks nice, but I'm a bit sad in that the extended cut only adds about thirteen minutes. Oh well, they're getting my money anyway. Quote
