Floundie Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 (edited) Sauron will be in film 3. He revealed himself to Gandalf at the end of DOS. What exactly do you mean? Sauron in the BOFA? If so, yeah they better not do that. And those who are worried about Thorin's big moment, read this: http://www.theonerin...in-oakenshield/ Edited May 31, 2014 by Floundie Quote

Ardelon Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Radagast dying doesn't directly contradict anything. I'm interested in how they would plan on killing an Istari like that, but I'm far more fine with that than keeping Thorin alive or bringing in Sauron. It contradicts the books, though I assume you were talking about the films. It doesn't contradict anything in those, since Radagast wasn't in LotR; but then, neither does Thorin surviving or Smaug and Sauron being at the BO5A. Nowhere in LotR is it said that Thorin is dead or that Sauron wasn't out and about in the North before returning to Barad Dur. These would all be equally big changes, but none contradicted by movie canon. Of course the Thorin rumor now seems pretty much settled by TORn. Quote
The Legonater Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Radagast's fate in the books is a mystery, as I recall. The Hobbit has been used to essentially show his role in the Lord of the Rings, and after that there's nothing. I don't see what it would contradict, other than the assumption that he doesn't die. Remind me, because I have no idea where I am remembering this from, but wasn't there some mention somewhere that Rafagast was involved with the defense of Erebor and the War in the North during the time of the LotR? Or was that just from some video game? After awhile the cannon book stuff and the later bolted on stuff starts to run together in the mind. Quote

Ardelon Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Yeah, that's pretty much all that he does. He also sends Gandalf into Sarumans trap in the first place! Quote
Calanon Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 From the trailer, I am really hoping that this film is better than the last two. Quote
Mandate Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Unfortunately, that trailer was terrible IMO. Hope the movie is better, having Pippin's singing is kind of... stupid, though. But they've really focused on the not-battle parts, and they've already deviated from the book in a whole heap of ways, and now they're going further and further. Good work on Bard's attitude towards the Elves, considering he's never seen an army that organized act like that. Thorin looks ridiculous in his armor, and the way he said "war" was kind of creepy. Still, I'm going to reserve judgement for the film itself, going to see it regardless of reviews or my own opinion on whether or not they're going to butcher it or not. Quote
Faefrost Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Help! I think my copy of the book is missing a few pages! I can't seem to find the "Chariot race on ice while surrounded by rabid wolves" anywhere. Is it only in some UK unabridged edition? Quote

Is it only in some UK unabridged edition? Really? My copy of "The Hobbit: An original story by Peter Jackson" has them in there, right before the Dwarves riding the war-rams. You must have some cheap knockoff copy! Quote
Mr Man Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Is it only in some UK unabridged edition? Not over here, unless it's really rare, mine only has a couple of hundred pages . Quote

And all the Dwarves are Scottish for some strange reason? Quote
SandMirror38 Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Guy's it's a new zealand exclusive only!! I managed to get one here in Aus, Almost as long as a dictionary... But yea chapter 226 is the one in question: Ram's and Dwarves - Why? Nice chapter.. XD Quote

bachamn Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 (edited) The two most boring film I've ever seen (not Evangeline Lilly, of course) Seriously? The two most boring you've ever seen? Go watch "The Room" and get back to me. And look, I agree that Evangeline Lilly is beautiful, but in my opinion she's easily the worst part of the second film. And no, not because her part is completely fabricated (that actually doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would). Her delivery just feels fake to me; I don't get the sense that she belongs in the films at all like I do with say, Cate Blanchett as Galadriel who just appears to belong in Middle Earth. The character of Tauriel is a forced "strong female character with a short temper", and Evangeline's performance doesn't convey anything but this; there's no depth to her despite their attempts to tag an interracial love story into it. I felt similarly about Liv Tyler's performance in Fellowship when they were trying to make Arwen into an action hero. Same approach; same problem; same awful results. Ardelon Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Im looking forward to the Extended Edition. I thought the Mirkwood and Elvenhalls sequences were too short, so Im looking forward to them being fleshed out. Not a fan of Beorn, but maybe an extended scene will make me warm up to him. At last Lake Town was fleshed out, though of course not like how I imagined it. And Yeah, Tauriel doesnt really fit in IMO, she feels too much like a modern action heroine added to sell the film. Its not that bad; if she contributed to the films success, then kudos to the character, actress and people who wrote her in. The film makers could have forgone the weird love plot, though. In all, I was never really immersed in the film like I was in LOtR or AUJ. Hopefully I wont have this complaint about the third film. Quote
The Legonater Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 I really hope the extended edition fixed a lot of the issues I had with Beorn. He's a great character in the books, and in the movie he was just sort of... there. He had nothing to add. I would love for them to properly do the whole introduction scene which would have served as an excellent wrap-up of the previous movie, but that might be a bit much to ask for. Other than that, I just hope things are made generally better. DoS was not half as good as it should have been, at least not until Smaug came in. Quote
Fives Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 I believe that all the sour feelings people have with this trilogy will either be extinguished or validated, with my opinion being the former will be true. A lot of everything is gonna get payed off in this last movie, and I have no doubt it will be incredible. Quote
Palathadric Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 I have to say that so far there has been a lot that's wrong with the Hobbit films, but I still love them in spite of their flaws. Quote
