TheLegoDr Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 It makes sense to reuse a LEGO piece since I would think LEGO would want to get more use out of that mold since they only have had it in 2 minifigures so far. If it will sell, might as well use it more! Plus, CUUSOO doesn't want to create new pieces, so using existing pieces is what they are all about. Quote
Another Brick In The Wall Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 It sounds likely that the "Portals" review is prolonged because they like the project but wanted to produce the BTTF car first. Maybe LEGO also plays for time because they want to see how the other LEGO Cuusoo Portal projects progress... I think there's two possibilities: 1. They already have an idea that neither set will be successful in next review (Purdue Pete or Space troopers) so Portal is effectively held-over to be produced next. 2. They want the Portal set to incorporate some play features and they're trying to figure out how. Quote

I really wanted to see both Portal and Space Troopers sets, but I get the feeling the first is far more likely. Quote
BrickG Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 (edited) Yeah the next review sucks. Purdue Pete will not pass. They already have stuff that's similar to Space Troopers and I doubt it would pass (I'd seriously doubt it's consumer reach too being so incredibly generic). Having Portal as a "sorry nothing passed but here's this!" would save them face. Edited June 26, 2013 by BrickG Quote

I'm a huge Portal fan, and generally gay for anything Valve, but i can't get excited for a Portal set -- 99% of Portal's charm is the humor and puzzles. I fear its gonna end-up like some speedroz-type malarkey. Edited June 26, 2013 by Another Brick In The Wall Quote

I fear its gonna end-up like some speedroz-type malarkey. I don't know; I felt the concepts presented by Team Jigsaw seemed pretty compelling. It doesn't have much of the humor (which is understandable — a lot of the humor in Portal may be too dark for a LEGO theme) but still has some degree of that puzzle/platforming element to it. Quote
vexorian Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 I see the portal set as a good collectible at least. Any stand of some geek would welcome something that is both a very detailed LEGO model and an accurate representation of such a popular game. TLG seems to like the project, they give flat out NOs when they don't like. I think the reason they didn't green light it is not so that the next review is empty, but because they are still trying to work out the licensing with Valve. Quote
