gylman Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 I've made no effort to hide my Lego obsession. My office at work has Lego models and MOCs, my office at home is covered wall-to-wall with sets, I have Lego T-shirts, erasers, knapsacks and pens. Our Xmas decorations were 90% Lego. One of the biggest advantages of reaching" a certain age", which I shall not name, but I am significantly older than UltraPrime, is that you don't have to give a flying fu## what anyone thinks. I can honestly say that I have no idea what most people think other than my kids (who think it's great) and my wife (who thinks of it as a relatively benign vice). There are no other opinions I care about. As for other people? Never asked them, don't care. So, for all you teens and 20 years olds on the forums, stressed about school or starting working life, or girls, I understand how you feel. I was there too. But knowing what I know now, I say that you should look forward to getting older. Assuming you have jobs and marry decent women, gettting older is a GOOD thing... at least until your body starts falling apart, which if you take care of it does not begin until about 60 or even later. G I re-read this post, and it is obviously male-directed. I could reword it... but too lazy... If any girls read this, substitute the appropriate pronouns. Quote
ImperialJohn Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 My wife makes sure to tell everyone about my hobby :-P And I do to. Since I am old enough ;-) Everybody considers it a Hobby. Much easier to understand! And it is a BIG hit for the kids at school to tell about DAD. Quote

Darth_Ewok Posted December 31, 2006 Posted December 31, 2006 My Parents are fine with it, but it's obvious they would rather have me doing something else. :-/ My sister loves it *sweet* One of my friends is also a LEGO fan, but the rest don't know. I'm right in that age range between 12 and 18 that someone mentioned earlier :-| Quote

Brainbox Posted December 31, 2006 Author Posted December 31, 2006 LEGO is not a toy Technically, it is until either a) you reach adulthood or b) you consider it otherwise. I presume you went with option b. But I fear that my parents will force me into a LEGOless time soon... Tell them that a) its your choice of 'lifestyle' b) its better than (insert unsuitable pastime) I like lists ;-) Quote
Section8 Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 My parents dislike it, as they did most of my other now-defunct hobbies. The only thing they approved of me doing was learning to play piano, which I despised. Most of the people who come into my room make fun of my hobby, but my roommate also likes Legos (although the more grown up technic, not the System sets I collect). I did have my other non-Lego roommate asking alot of questions once the 787 Dreamliner set was finished and displayed on my desk (yes, it is that much more impressive in person). In short, I'm still in college, so Lego as a hobby may not be less expensive than my peers' hobbies (if you can call them that) but it is far less destructive, both to myself and to other people/property/possessions. Capn Frank Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 I'm only ten and I still get abuse from schoolmates but some of them like it. Oh yeah, I'm rubbish at sports as well.P.S I never knew this was an adult forum. Please don't ban me :'-( exo attack i don't think you need to be worried at all about being banned for your age :-) . Just be courteous to ( 8-| most) ppl. There are lots of KFOL on here i've noticed and i don't care about age. I actually like the diversity of age and region! I think it's very fascinating. My parents are okay with it, my brother plays constructs with LEGO himself. (LEGO is not a toy)But I fear that my parents will force me into a LEGOless time soon... When my AFOL bro moves down here, we're going to have a RPG style war with each of our pirate collections and see who wins. Similar to Evil Stevie's Pirate wars. We construct lots of MOC's, but we take the playing (or Role Playing) seriously too. X-D Quote
