Vindicare Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 The States won most of their medels thanks to Phelps. I think it's somewhat unfair that a person invovled in just one kind of sport can win so many medals. Sure there are different styles of swimming, but it is still, to a certain extent, all swimming. I disagree. There's others that have different events for one sport. You can't say it's unfair just because Phelps is that good. Everyone in the race had an equal chance to win. He IS beatable. Quote

While that may be, it isn't really fair to compare athletes such as Phelps to other famous legendary medalists, such as Sir Steve Redgrave, who won five gold medals over the course of five olympics. Redgrave entered one or two events per games, and won a gold in each, wheras Phelps enters nearly all of the swimming events that he is allowed to, and gets loads of golds for that. Quote
Bilbo Baggins Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 I was really surprised to see Murray beat Federer I can't believe Djokovic went fourth. Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 I was really surprised to see Murray beat Federer. Nothing against Federer (he's the G.O.A.T. afterall), but I would've preferred to see Murray beat Fed in the last Wimbledon to break his Grand Slam(-less) curse. But winning Olympic gold and defeating the World #1 would do GREAT for his confidence. I sure hope he gets his Slam soon. Quote
Scorpiox Posted August 5, 2012 Author Posted August 5, 2012 Ben Ainslie did a great job to get gold in the sailing, granting him the accolade of the most decorated sailor in the world. It's a good job he did win, after all the rage he has been showing around lately, but it seems that Hulk-SMASH! SAIL! does improve one's concentration after all. Murray was also impressive, winning gold in the Men's Singles final, which doubled as a spiritual rematch of the Wimbledon final that Andy lost to Federer. This time around it was Murray's game, allowing him to take revenge, and he even resisted the urge to burst into tears upon victory! I'm excited for the Men's 100m final a later on, and hopefully it will turn out to be an interesting race. Quote
Bilbo Baggins Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Bronze Medal for Mexico!!! Thanks Laura Quote
Scorpiox Posted August 5, 2012 Author Posted August 5, 2012 The big man himself has lived up to his name 'Bolt' by outrunning all opposition once again. He even found some time to pose with the mascot afterwards. I love this guy! Quote
Spider-Man Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 So me and my dad have been going back in forth all day on this and I am looking for some help from our British friends! What is bigger in tennis, winning Wimbledon as a GB resident, or winning an Olympic gold on your home soil? I say it has to be Olympic since 1) it only happens every 4 years and 2) it is highly unlikely that you will ever be playing in front of your own people for the Olympics. Quote

You can't fault Phelps for entering all the events he can/did... Everyone else had the opportunity as well... Home turf Olympic win. Quote

Murray was so close to beating Federer in the Wimbledon final, and one could tell it meant a lot to him. With the Olympics, Murray represented Great Britain and won gold, but there never is the cash insentive or great personal glory of having your name carved into the wall to be remembered that Wimbledon offers. Over here, it is always thought that Wimbledon is the pinnacle of Tennis glory, proving that you are the best in the world against everybody else, whereas the Olympic games is more about the Nation that you are representing. As great as Olympic gold is, think that, home games or not, Murray would consider it a greater honour to win Wimbledon. That applies for most Tennis stars as well. Spider-Man Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Thank's for the replies! I can see how it would work both ways, but having your named carved and being a permanent fixture at Wimbledon is probably pretty meaningful. Just wanted to get some advice from a fellow tennis fan from GB Quote

If it's Wimbledon time, then Wimbledon . Definitely the Home Olympics, it's only every 4 years and the chance to host it 3 times is fantastic. Quote

Scorpiox Posted August 7, 2012 Author Posted August 7, 2012 Great efforts from Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton in the Velodrome, nice to see Great Britain dominating in the cycling once again. In other news, I just purchased the Official London 2012 game on Playstation, and finished 7th in Men's 100m! Wooo! Quote
Bilbo Baggins Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Mexico qualified to the soccer final Really happy Quote

Scorpiox Posted August 7, 2012 Author Posted August 7, 2012 Um...are we supposed to cheer for you? Hell yeah! I got bored, so I decided to play some Women's Beach Volleyball (Don't look at me that way) about half an hour ago. It was a dire mistake. A while later I quit, having lost to Jamaica in what was Officially the World's Longest and Most Tiresome match. Don't ever pursue a career in the sport guys, half-way through I lost the will to live. Didn't even get bronze after all that... Quote

Just amazing. And Alex Morgan, , with the game winner was the icing on the cake. Quote
Mr Man Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 What a game between US and Canada in soccer. Could they manage to play it without accidental strapping on some armour and picking up the ball . We are doing so well this time. Maybe with a big push we could overtake the US, but it's really now a competition to see who comes second to China . Quote
Praiter Yed Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Not sure if this is the right place for this but has anyone seen Warren Elsmore's Lego Olympic Stadium?. Apologies if this has already been posted elsewhere - I did a search but couldn't find anything. Quote
Masked Builder Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Whoa that's neat. So many details in that small space! Quote

purpleparadox Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 That is cool. I'd love to build something like it, someday. On a different note, Canada got bronze in soccer! Quote
Mr Man Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Nicola Adams is the most successful female Olympic boxer in history. Um Quote
