And she also happens to be the only one who has ever won gold.

But well done to her all the same.

She is the closest olympian to me geographically (Leeds), and she trained in the boxing centre in Bradford.

Yorkshire coming 11th in the medal tables is really good. That will show London it's not just their games .

Ironically, I'm staying in Yorkshire at the moment, and the local news is certainly reminding me about how many medalists have come from the area.

It is a shame to see the Olympics coming to a close, but I believe that we've hosted a great games here in London. The big media scares that were predicted never turned out to be true. With all the expectation on the host team, I think that we did really well, and certainly performed to a high standard. Thoughts?

I'm hoping that the closing ceremony will do our home games justice. :classic:

The closing ceremony was brilliant, absolutely stunning. The only flaw in the whole thing was letting Tinie Tempah or what ever his name is pick up a mic, but that issue was rectified well by Eric Idle and the remains of Queen. Shame that David Bowie didn't get enough time, but the overall spectacle was amazing. For the most part, it was a great cellebration of British music, and it was awesome to see Madness back again, I love that band. We make such good music in this country. :sweet:

While they lasted the games were a real show by Great Britain, and I think we pulled it off really well.

Thoughts and ideas, anyone?

Rather, I enjoyed Tinie Tempah, but not Jessie J. The one big flaw music wise was Coldplay not performing.

I think London was a great host to these Olympics! They went off without a hitch and everything was extremely fun and exciting! Way to go London :sweet:

Also great all around performance from USA! We competed hard on all fronts and really did well!

I really enjoyed the Closing Ceremony, I was really disaopointed about it not including Coldplay and Paul McCartney :hmpf_bad:

Yeah, I think Coldplay have made a big enough contribution to music to be in there, at least a track being played would have been good. As for Paul McCartney, well, it is possible to have too much of a good thing. I think that we got just about enough of him in the opening ceremony.

On a more serious note, I thought that the John Lennon and Freddie Mercury tributes were very exciting. It is lovely to see the crowd erupt at the glimpse of a yellow jacket. But I don't see why George 'I'm Stoned' Michael got to sing two songs, where most only got one, I guess they were just trying to prevent him from returning to the bathroom with his syringe.

Because we were the host nation, there is always high expectation of doing really well. I think that 3rd place is a great achievement, the highest that we can realistically reach, behind the immoveable US and China. :classic:

Thing is, Tinie Tempah is a Londoner. He used to go Woolwich Polytechnic, a boys school in Thamesmead. I for one enjoyed him, but despised Jessie J.

While that may be, his style certainly isn't what I would describe as 'British music'. The whole rap thing is a very American concept, so in my opinion, a display that attempts to show the Best of British music, would be better off celebrating genres and types that we as a Nation have taken to heart. The crowd in the stadium roared with joy the instant that great musicians such as John Lennon and classic songs like Bohemian Rhapsody were played, showing just exactly what our public loves and thinks that our music is. Songs that are recognisable and world-famous, and really reflect what we can do well. It took just under 0.3 seconds for the whole of the viewing world to acknowledge Brian May's guitar and the the drums of 'We Will Rock You' , and that says everything. So As 'cool' as Tinie may be, he doesn't really cut the mustard with his talking-to-the-music, it just isn't the same, in my view. On another note, as nice as the Bowie tribute was, it would have been good to play a complete song, seeing as his songs are some of the best written rock pieces of all time. How about the timeless 'Space Oddity', or the deep and meaningful 'Life on Mars?'?
