Zerobricks Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 (edited) Here's a moc inspired in Thelonious monk's mini 9398's topic. I managed to squeeze 3 M motors inside, but the model is not yet physically finished, so i'm posting some LDD screenshots and the .lxf file if someone wants to try build it. In lxf file only 4 bricks are missing, the two ball joints ends. The white 24 tooth gears is a clutch gear, So here's how it looks: I think the color sheme matches nicely. It even has a steering wheel and opening doors! Of course the body can open up like its bigger brother to show off the crammed battery box. Comparing it to the 9398, it has a slighty longer wheelbase, but I dont see any way of reducing it even further. Steering is done very simple, without any gears. A simple lever pushes the steering rack. Its simple, but it works good! So if anyone wants to try build it, here you go. Mini 9398.lxf Tips when building: Use soft, usually grey colored springs. There is intentionaly used friction pin where the 8 tooth gear powers the 24 for steering. It reduces the wheels steering themself. Use the stronger white clutch gear (the one without Nm marks) Some colored parts used in LDD model dont exist or are very rare Route the powering M motor's cables inside the truck, so they dont get stuck on bumpers. If someone builds it, please reply here with their opinion. Thanks! Edited July 29, 2012 by Zblj Quote
ciken Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 pretty awsome that you have managed to put al the functions in such small place Quote
T_Tank Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 once again you've amazed me with your skill with the ability to make a neat little package. Deafinately a lot smaller then my smallest rock crawler I've built. Quote

Alasdair Ryan Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 Very nice mini crawler Zblj. Next you need to make a mini rc moc. Quote
timslegos Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 How is that even possible?! . Nice work. Video and photos? tim Quote
Zerobricks Posted July 30, 2012 Author Posted July 30, 2012 No video or photos of the real thing yet, because i'm missing some bricks... Btw I updated the .lxf file to fix some minur bugs. Quote
Zerobricks Posted July 30, 2012 Author Posted July 30, 2012 Great! Btw i updated the axles a bit, so they are a bit more stiff, and also increased the steering angle by a degree: Quote
Technic Gearhead Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Excellent work with the amount of space available. Surely there are enough pieces at this scale to fix the color scheme but I know you are just matching the original. Well done - might just have to build little brother! Quote
Zerobricks Posted July 30, 2012 Author Posted July 30, 2012 (edited) A'ight i managed to find some parts by involuntary donations from other models. I actually like this color combination: Opened doors and steered wheels: Going uphil... Opened bodywork: And the underside: So how it works? The M motors provide enough power for usual crawling, they almost stall when you hold the model, but outside they didnt seem too weak (except when i got grass in gears). A small problem shared by his bigger brother is stability. Tilting it over 40-45 degrees and it will flop on its side. But the big one does it too, so I guess its a good replica in this way too If you have the parts, I suggest you to build it, because its just so much fun to drive it arround. Here's a video of the perforamnce: Edited July 30, 2012 by Zblj Quote
timslegos Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 I think something is off with your white balance in the pictures(or maybe you wanted it that way ) Nice performance for such a small truck. tim Quote
_techniclego55_ Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Well done Zbjl.. performs better than the original 9398.. Maybe i will build one.. :) Quote

Jurgen Krooshoop Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Wow, is this cool or what. Great job ! Quote
BrickPicker Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 pretty awsome that you have managed to put al the functions in such small place My thoughts exactly. Quote
jadedomg Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 This is a really nice crawler, you did a excellent job in keeping it close to the original. Quote
T_Tank Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 that color scheme is actually really cool looking we need more blue in the lego world! Surprised me how well it works offroad for its scale though its probably extremely light so the m motors don't sweat while pushing the model along. an a idea for wheels I could think of being more like the power pullers but at this scale these tires came to mind. Wheel 68.8 x 40 Balloon Large, with Black Tire 68.8 x 40 Balloon Large (2996 / 2995) I've used these on my little 4x4 pickup cause they looked cool and you could get a closer steering offset if your reversed them. though with this model that's probably not needed. tibivi Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 This is a really nice little version of the crawler, if I can find the parts, I wil built it Nice done Tibivi Quote
Zerobricks Posted July 31, 2012 Author Posted July 31, 2012 Nice idea about tyres. I dont own these, but I do wonder how they would come out. Proboably like 9398 with PP wheels Quote
