Excellent representation of Minas Tirith, big enough that it can include all the features that we want from it, yet small enough that it is not too expensive, I could actually see TLG releasing a set like that, have you sent in your designs? Brilliant work on the Caverns of the Dead set too, though one or two more oathbreaker soldiers would be welcome. Keep up the great work!

Your Minas Tirith would mnake such an amazing set, it would probably be an exclusive though. :hmpf_bad:

Why would a flagship set (unless it's UCS and non-minifig scale) be exclusive?

Would that work for this set? It makes sense for Jabba's palace because the lower portion the Rancor Pit has a playable storyline in it's own right and is a self-contained room. Could you say the same for the lower half of the city?

It's a good argument. I dare-say that the design team at Lego has similar arguments on a daily basis, how to bring the cost of set down whilst retaining the essence of what they're trying to develop.

I don't see why not. The top could be the whole Denethor conflict and include Faramir, some Gondor Soldiers, Gandalf the White, Pippin, and of course Denethor. The bottom could be focused more on the actual siege of the city and have the Mordor Orcs, Gondor Soldiers, Eowyn, Merry, and Witch King. I could total see them doing something like this and having the top be a cheaper set and the bottom the big flagship set for that particular wave.

Those are awesome recreations. I really enjoy seeing your take on the whole franchise and then seeing how TLG officially creates things. I can only imagine TLG reads message boards, not necessarily to get ideas, but maybe just to see what people are in to. And I would expect them to take a look at your creations and see how their own versions come to be.

Great parts usage so far. I would fully expect the army of the dead to be in a sand green similar to your use instead of trying to create a translucent sand green figure.

I cannot wait for Gondor shields!

Keep up the great work.

About the Caverns of the Dead set:

I like it, but needs more meat on the bones (pun unintended!). Need at least 2 generic oathbreakers (ghostly soldiers) minifigures to go with the king.

Love the dropping skulls play feature!

I completely agree. Get rid of the horse and add 1-2 (preferably 2  ) Oathbreakers and it would be perfect imo.

As for you Witch King Demise set, I think it's a little bland and redundant since your Minas Tirth set already comes with a Witch King on Fel Beast. The only saving grace of it being the Eowyn and Merry minifigs, but both could easily be added to the Minas Tirith set.

Conversely I would rather see you just add the Fel Beast to the Witch King Demise set and that way you can get rid of the Witch King and Fel Beast in the Minas Tirith set to keep the cost of that set lower since it's already getting pretty high (like I mentioned before). I mean there really isn't a lot going for the Witch King Demise set other than the minifigures. Sure the rotating platform is cool, but I think this set would do MUCH better as a 20 dollar set that includes everything you proposed, as well as the Fel Beast with it.

I think that sounds like a decent idea. Boost the price to $15 or 29, but it'll be a lot more substantial. (Maybe add Merry/Eowyn's horse, too) I like the rotating platform as well, but it's a bit of a bland set.

Retrospectively, I agree that putting the Fell Beast into the Witch King Demise set would have made more sense, and also would've brought down the price point of Minas Tirith, both of which would've been good things. However, I needed to have a "small set" in my ROTK line, and I guess this particular scene seemed best for that. Location-wise, though, this really is a boring choice for which to do that - adding the creature would've been both more realistic and more interesting, and I think I could've probably come up with something else small to fit the bill. Alas, the sets are already photographed...

Hopefully my next set - in the works at the moment - is a more sensible one!

This is a brilliant attempt to bring Minas Tirith into a realistic model that Lego could produce.

If it has not been said already I would break this into three models. With other sets to make up the rest of the battles of the book/film etc.

1.The Attack on the Gate.

This is effectively the lower city wall, a battle like the Helms deep set. Including 2 defenders, Grond and 6 orcs. Aiming for a £75 to £80 price.

2. The Houses of Healing.

A middle city section and the place where all the romance occurs? Faramir, Eowen, Ioreth (a city townswoman) and Beregond, as a standard Citadel guard. Aiming for a £50 to £60 price.

3. The White Tree and Palace. The upper city. Which would have Gandalf the white, Shadowfax, Peregrin the Squire and Denethor with The Palantir. Again this might need to be an £80 to £90 set.

4. A battle set with Prince Imrahil?, Theoden, Dernhelm, Merry, three horses and the Fell beast with Witch king. £40

5. An orc battle set. £12

6. A southron battle set. £12 or if they include a mumak £25.

7. Army of the Dead. 3 glow in the dark skelton horses and 4 skeleton warriors, 1 elf (Elladan/Elrohir) and Strider/Ranger of the North. I would make this £15.
