Bfahome Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 (edited) Well it started when I decided to make a large Eye of Sauron in LDD. As I was fiddling around I noticed that the stinger/tail/whatever pieces might work well as the spikes on the top of the tower, so I abandoned the original idea to make this. It's definitely not the most accurate of builds, but I think it captures the look well enough. (the eye is attached by two transparent 1x1 cylinders, if you can't see them that well) Edited August 2, 2012 by Bfahome Quote
SheepEater Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Beautiful! Have you thought of incorporating a mechanism that makes it crumbles in the same way as in the movie when the ring is destroyed? Quote
purpleparadox Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Awesome! Now brick-build it, eh? Would you share the .lxf file, so I can play around with it a bit? I'd just like a more in-depth look at the model. Quote
Bfahome Posted August 3, 2012 Author Posted August 3, 2012 Beautiful! Have you thought of incorporating a mechanism that makes it crumbles in the same way as in the movie when the ring is destroyed? I had not thought of that. It would be an interesting feature if this was an actual set or something, but right now I can't think of a decent way to make that work (other than just falling over), especially without sacrificing the look. Awesome! Now brick-build it, eh? Would you share the .lxf file, so I can play around with it a bit? I'd just like a more in-depth look at the model. Here's the file. The build is actually a bit haphazard, especially on the inside, so it might be a bit difficult to navigate. Quote
soccerkid6 Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Pretty neat model Easily recognizable and it looks like there aren't that many pieces Quote
Jimbobulus Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 It's awesome, although I would probably lengthen it just a little bit. Good job though Quote
ShaydDeGrai Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 It's a great Architecture-style abstraction - catches the essence quite nicely. I've been trying to think of a way to scale down Barad Dur to a convenient desktop size to add to my collection, perhaps this will be just the motivation/inspiration I need to head back to the drawing board. Nice job. Quote
Rawel Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Alright, I think it's time that TLG started fusing their LotR and Architecture lines. Barad-Dur, Orthanc, Minas Tirith, Rivendel, Helm's Deep - the possibilities are endless. Rawel. Quote
Darth Caedus Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 (edited) Beautiful! Have you thought of incorporating a mechanism that makes it crumbles in the same way as in the movie when the ring is destroyed? I think a great set for Wave 3 would have a large, impressive Barad-Dur and a bunch of minifigures from the last stand at the Black Gate. Call it The Battle For Middle Earth and include the Olog-hai, Elessar, the Mouth of Sauron, Gandalf the White, Gondor Pippin and some Mordor Orcs; and make Barad-Dur a conservatively built but towering, impressive brickbuilt monstrosity with the ultimate play feature of - pull pins to Destroy Sauron! Alright, I think it's time that TLG started fusing their LotR and Architecture lines. Barad-Dur, Orthanc, Minas Tirith, Rivendel, Helm's Deep - the possibilities are endless. Rawel. In a perfect world, we'd have the teams behind Cafe Corner and its ilk reassigned to do modular sections of a to-scale Minas Tirith. One can dream. Edited August 6, 2012 by Darth Caedus Quote

purpleparadox Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 (edited) In the spirit of Summer of Friends, I gave The Eye a bit of a makeover... Seriously though, your original model (with the correct colour scheme) is fantastic. I'm considering Bricklinking the parts to build it! Edited August 7, 2012 by purpleparadox Quote

I'm considering Bricklinking the parts to build it! The Dark Lord D'awwwwron. But I think the closest you're going to get to the top spikes (without painting them) would be these, so unless some recolors are released it won't be fully buildable. Not sure if the rest of the parts are available in black either, I just went with whatever I could. CUUSOO TIME actually yeah why not Though if you make the eye yellow it could look like the flame-lightning-whatever bits holding it to the spires. I dunno. Edited August 13, 2012 by Bfahome Quote
