alois Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 Layout Since oktober 2010 I've been working on a Lego street and now it's more or less finished. Well, I could expand it endlessly, were it not that the limits of my table have been reached. I've called it the 'Steenstraat', which translates as 'paved street' and is a very common name for old streets in the Netherlands. But it can also be translated as 'street of brick' which is fitting for a Lego street. So here are some pictures: Overview: Some old Dutch houses and a tram: Some traffic on the street: Overview from a different angle, which shows the tram stop in front of the town hall: Waiting for the tram: Some teenage skateboarders in front of the fountain: Another corner: Finally, an overview into the other direction: I hope you like it. More to be seen on my flickr account. Quote
Ballast Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 (edited) Awesome street you got there! The tram looks very nice, it's a big plus that you made your own instead of using the existing blue city tram! The old Dutch spelling of 'Stadhuys' is a nice detail, but then again there are soo much details to discover! Well done :D Edited August 11, 2012 by Ballast Quote
cimddwc Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 Really a great street with not only nice houses, but nice street details as well. Quote
alois Posted August 11, 2012 Author Posted August 11, 2012 The old Dutch spelling of 'Stadhuys' is a nice detail I didn't have any I's left Quote
Wedge09 Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 The street floor is detailed and the tram is a nice addition. Good work alois Quote
TheLegoDr Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 I love the look of the street using the bricks in that manner. I love the variety of buildings aligning said street. And I really love the look of the fountain and the surrounding street. I am unfamiliar with European towns, so I am not exactly sure how it would look/function in real life, but the area with the fire engine and tram pick-up, do the cars actually drive on the rails at the same time as the tram? It seems they run out of road at that particular area, so I thought I would ask. Either way, keep up the great builds! I will certainly come back to look at this some more. Quote
LAKAbricks Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 (edited) Indeed a particular street, alois. So richly detailed. It's really beatiful houses, you have built. And I like the tram alot. TheLegoDr, in some streets, trams are operated in "mixed traffic" together with cars. Typically it's in more narrow streets where it's not possible to give the tram it's own right of way. But of course the optimal situation is when the tram has got it's own right of way. But it often depends on the age of the system and the streets it's running through. Angeli Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 I am not a city fan, but this street looks amazing ;) bravo :) Quote
L@go Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 I've been looking at your images on Flickr, and I'm very impressed by what you've built. The buildings are top notch, and the whole layout is one of the better town layouts I've seen. Well done :) Quote
Ferrik Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 It looks stunning with all that attention-to detail! The buildings are excellent and to see that you made the road tile by tile is great. Quote
Brickmamba Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 Great looking city street, so many details and buildings gives it so much life Quote
JopieK Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 Very nice indeed. A great Dutch atmosphere also, nice details! That costed a lot of work!!! Will you be showing it at LEGOWorld 2012?! Quote
mephistopheles Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 Heartiest congratulations! you did a great job! Quote
The Dutch Guy Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 (edited) Well Alois, i knew you were good with Moc's but this realy kills me.A superb street you have created there. Love the PCC, it looks very "Haags" as some other details. Great work and i hope you can find a bigger table, so you can expand even more. Love the town hall and the Y in Stadhuys realy works, althow it was a forced error. The Dutch houses are very well build too. Again, Great work Alois. Edited August 13, 2012 by The Dutch Guy Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 Wonderful layout! It looks like a real town! Quote
DwarfSleepy Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 Great street design! Love it. Are those streets tiled or bricks laying on their side (SNOT)? Did you consider both and their relative cost/practicality? I'm asking because I'm also planning a street scene, and am deliberating between the two options... Quote
streifen Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 (edited) Great interesting street! The buildings are superb! By the way, how many m2 (i.e. area) is your MOC city (or town)? Edited August 13, 2012 by streifen Quote
alois Posted August 13, 2012 Author Posted August 13, 2012 (edited) Great street design! Love it. Are those streets tiled or bricks laying on their side (SNOT)? Did you consider both and their relative cost/practicality? I'm asking because I'm also planning a street scene, and am deliberating between the two options... The street is made of tiles, not snotted bricks. I did consider it, but it would have been rather complicated given the different patterns and the inclusion of the rails. Moreover, I could get the tiles relatively cheap. By the way, how many m2 (i.e. area) is your MOC city (or town)? It measures 1.75 m (7 baseplates) x 0.81 m (3 baseplates + track). You do the math. Vindicare Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 Wow! Amazing detail. Those streets! Unbelievable, I don't even know what to say. Quote
AncientDayz Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 I have recently come out of the Dark Ages and started a street plan of my own. You have definitely raised the bar that I had originally set for myself. The tram is great, and I really like the layout of the street. The little aspects like the piano hanging make the details realistic and enjoyable - even playful. I will definitely have fun looking at these pictures in more detail - thanks! Quote
The_YongGrand Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 I like the little Dutch town there. Looks real and feels real. By the way I have seen a Stadthuys in Malacca. I think it is pronounced "Stahdt-house" if I'm not mistaken. It's a red building and I didn't remember much because I went there when I was a kid. Quote
dyntar Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 Wow! There are so many great details in this. I really like the little guy on the roof painting the house with a roller. Why is there a Knight wearing flippers waiting for a tram? Quote
alois Posted August 19, 2012 Author Posted August 19, 2012 Why is there a Knight wearing flippers waiting for a tram? Some questions will never be answered, I guess... Feel free to figure out your own explanation Quote
antp Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 I didn't have any I's left Nice work, that street looks really good :) Quote
Venunder Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Very good street scenes all along the "Brick Street" Quote
