Dannylonglegs Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 Sylph broodingly regarded his arm, brutally aware that he was not the reason the tree moved. They used to dance at his hands, the world bright and intoxicating in beauty and sensation. Now his senses were ashes in comparison... as black as the shadow concealing his visage. 'But the seeds of the pine grow from ashes.' he thought... 'and the plants can be watered by blood.' Resuming his usual stance, Sylph swept to the front of his group, standing at the edge of the cliff. He turned to Nur. "Nur, how do you suggest we cross this cliff? It'd be a waste of your energy to teleport us, I think, if even possible. Should I fire my bow to the other side with a rope attached? I have to learn sometime, right?
Bricksandparts Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 "Sylph, even if we could get a rope to the other side, what would we attach it to?" Johon walked around the cliff side, and thinking of one of the options. "I could cross and you guys could shoot a rope to the other side, then I could attach it to the post..."
Dannylonglegs Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 "Sylph, even if we could get a rope to the other side, what would we attach it to?" Johon walked around the cliff side, and thinking of one of the options. "I could cross and you guys could shoot a rope to the other side, then I could attach it to the post..." "That's what I meant." Sylph goes ahead and does it.
Sandy Posted September 8, 2012 Author Posted September 8, 2012 The party removes the ropes from the half of the broken bridge that's hanging on their side of the ravine, and tie them together to make one long line. Sylph then ties the rope into an arrow and shoots it on the other side. The arrow sticks to the tree, but since its not tied up, it won't hold anyone's weight. Now they've got a rope across, but they still cannot cross the deep and wide chasm. The ravine continues to the horizon both ways, and there's no other bridge in sight.
Bricksandparts Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Johon swings himself across his body onto the side of the cliff. "Hope I see you on the other side of this, literally." Johon chuckles. Johon drops a rock to see if he can tell how deep the water is, then he looks for a foot hold and starts to inch his way down.

The rock makes a splash as it hits the water. It's a really rapid and cold stream that will surely sweep away anyone who falls into it.

"Ok, now might be a good time for a spell-casting." said Sylph, looking at Nur. "If it's possible to... part the waters, or levitate him above them, or create a stepping stone bridge by bringing up rocks or moving the water around, I'll give you the next tonic we find."

"If it's possible to... part the waters, or levitate him above them, or create a stepping stone bridge by bringing up rocks or moving the water around, I'll give you the next tonic we find." "Or just give me a water-breathing spell. I've got a tonic you can have, and my armor should weigh me down enough to not be carried away. Then I can get up the cliff using that tree and secure the rope for the rest of you."

"I think it'd be safer if he made sure you weren't swept by the water. The forces of nature are more powerful than you might think. Either way, it's Nur's art anyway, so I'll let him decide."
Bricksandparts Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Johon gets and idea, and starts to look around the cliff side for a vine. "I should be able to swim across and tie a vine around me so I don't get swept down the river."
Sandy Posted September 9, 2012 Author Posted September 9, 2012 QM Note: If Jebediahs hasn't showed up by tomorrow, I'll continue the quest without his input.
Dannylonglegs Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 QM Note: If Jebediahs hasn't showed up by tomorrow, I'll continue the quest without his input. Should he not show up, he parts the water around Johon so that he can safely walk along the river bed to the other side, spending the appropriate amount of ether to account for the feat.
Jebediahs Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 "Any luck with that vine, Johon? These chaps aren't much for the outdoors like survivalists such as you and me, eh? So quick for me to use magic to bypass the situation."
Sandy Posted September 10, 2012 Author Posted September 10, 2012 Nur uses his earth-elemental powers to shape the cliff they are standing on into a stone bridge, at the cost of 1 ether. The party can thus easily cross the ravine without resorting to any sort of diving into the chilly water. The four men haste after the rich lads. They soon spot them ahead on a higher mountain path. "So, are you going to tell me what we'll find at the Suicide Cliffs anytime soon?" "Nope! I told you already, it's a surprise!" "I know, that's what makes me worried... Hehe." "Come on, I know a shortcut through the mountains. If we hurry, we will make it just in time!" The boys chat without care, and do not notice the party below them. But they are not the only travellers in the mountains... As the party makes their way uphill, they are intercepted by three elves. "Halt! You are entering the sacred grounds of the Brobric Elves! Turn back now, or face the consequences." What will the party answer? Edited September 10, 2012 by Bricksandparts
Darth Nihilus Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 "Goddamn it," Dak mutters under his breath. "My Brobric brethren can be so goddamn annoying sometimes. Oh well, guess it's high time to try out this new armor's powers." If Johon does not use Diplomacy, Dak will use Intimidation to get rid of the elves. But he won't really try because he needs teh loot and XP.
Dannylonglegs Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Sylph sighs and brings his iron palm to his hooded face. "Thanks for trying to explain to them how we mean them no harm." He snarks loudly. He proceeds to rest against the trunk of a tree, waiting for the elves' reply.
Sandy Posted September 11, 2012 Author Posted September 11, 2012 Sylph suggests that someone with skill in diplomacy explain that we are safeguarding the two boys who passed earlier. QM Note: Nobody in the party has skill in diplomacy. Johon stutters as the elf speaks. "Couldn't you even bother to post a sign, I mean, I thought this was a hiking trail." Johon looks at the trio and shrugs. "So what are the names of your 3-elved bunch?" "What insolence! This has been elven territory ever since Eubric was still a puny fishing village! These were called Mountains of Lunedai once, in nobler times. There is an ancient burial ground of the Moon Elves up ahead, and it is forbidden for anyone non-elven to enter. We don't need signposts, not with us patrollers guarding the area. Our names do not concern you." "Goddamn it," Dak mutters under his breath. "My Brobric brethren can be so goddamn annoying sometimes. Oh well, guess it's high time to try out this new armor's powers." If Johon does not use Diplomacy, Dak will use Intimidation to get rid of the elves. The elven patroller is taken aback by Dak's threats. "You dare to defy us, half-elf? You are a disgrace to our kind, we do not take orders from your ilk. Now turn back, or we will send you back to Eubric in pieces!" How will the party respond?
Jebediahs Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 En Sabah Nur peered down the side of the cliff. There was not much room to maneuver if a battle were to ensue and these elves have the high ground and more experience in fighting in this type of environment. He disliked dealing with elves, not because he didn't agree with them, only that they all looked the same to him. Nur had lost sight of the boys and the Party needed to move along. He didn't like the thought of more patrollers in the area than this bunch as they'd slow the group down for sure. "Forgive me, I need to take something to calm my stomach. Heights make it a bit queezy." En Sabah Nur consumed a Smelling Salts. "Now, 'non-elven' you say? Don't we all have a little elf in us. Take a look at my ridiculously large eyes. I've got to have at least a tiny bit of fey in me. Most likely high up in the tree on my mother's side no doubt. My friends jest in their responses, their senses of humor leave something to be desired...We are on a pilgrimmage of sorts and merely wish to pay our respects. We each had friends, family and comrades who died fighting for your people in those Brobic Wars. That should count for something. Let us pass to visit the Moon Elf burial site. You can escort us if ye'd like." The mage turned toward his party and made no attempt to hide a shrug. When it came to elves and tact in general, he was clueless.
Sandy Posted September 11, 2012 Author Posted September 11, 2012 QM Note: Maybe you guys should show respect to elves the next time you encounter them. They're a proud bunch, you know? That should count for something. Let us pass to visit the Moon Elf burial site. You can escort us if ye'd like." The elven patrolman looks at the battle mage incredulously. "Brobric Wars? What are you blathering on about? Ahead is the site where our forebearers, the Moon Elves, buried their dead in times long past. It is holy to us, and you shall not enter if you are not of our tribe. I don't care if your grandmother was a howling werehyena, you shall not pass!" The elves drew their weapons. A fight was inevitable. PREPARE FOR BATTLE! Jebediahs Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Nur chuckles at Johon before attacking Brobric Marksman with an earth spell from the back row twice.
Dannylonglegs Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 "Maybe it's because we're jerks," suggested Sylph as he stepped into the back row. He slipped the bow from his back and strung an arrow in one fluid motion, betraying his skill with the weapon. He let the arrow fire at the Patrolman.
