How did the first wave of Ninjago do, when all that was out there was the pilot movie with the skellies?

Well, it was The LEGO Group's most successful launch ever for a new product line, so I'd say it did pretty well.

I was chatting with some random kid while feeling CMF packets for Mr. Gold. After a long pause he then said: "Chima is pretty stupid." I then directed him toward the TV show, ignoring the fact that he was talking about the theme as a whole. We then geeked on about Ninjago...

On a happier note. I am now the proud owner of all of the Winter/Spring Wave Chima sets!

Crawley's Claw Ripper was quite the surprise! For $15, this set is just as nice as it's cheaper comrade Razcal's Raven Glider. The treads of the vehicle do not make complete contact with the ground, being that only one end actually touches the ground. The direction that the Claw Ripper is pushed also directs which way the claws are reaching. The back has the only CHI Crystal powering a vehicle that is completely contained. The midsection (cockpit) is very bland however, but the Croc head at the front makes up for it! The set includes Leonidas, complete with the silver Valious, and Crawley who is unequipped with anything but the Claw Ripper. This set also has only three stickers to apply which was very nice indeed.

8/10: Good vehicle but a bit bland in some spots.

I honestly don't think this theme is doing well. My Target's shelves are overflowing with these sets and they are taking up valuable space for The Lone Ranger, Man of Steel, and Iron Man 3 sets which there is no room for (and they don't have :cry_sad: ). The displays also take up quite a large amount of space too. I hope it serves as a lesson to Lego and they find some way to recover their losses.

Well, I got my first Chima set yesterday, the Nestjump Speedor set.

I actually like how there is something to build, something I've been missing with the Ninjago spinners.

The Speedor itself seems fun, but does not feel as playable as the spinners.

Figures have nice printing.

I collect, so the figures are going to get a part of my figure-box. Probably a large one, thanks to the amount of them.

But the small buildings are going to be taken apart. None of the sets seems very memorable to me.

We'll see how the other sets of my wanted list will be, maybe I can change my opinion slightly.

I stopped by the local Lego store today, and noticed that the Chima section seems to have shrunk on the shelves to be if anything, smaller than the Ninjago shelf space. Granted this may expand again when the next wave of sets hits, but it was kind of startling. Even more startling is that I didn't notice any Chima sets in the display cases, and the big Chima cut out characters had been exiled to an empty storefront on the far side of the mall.

The minifigures in this theme are the real draw, and boy are they amazing! After trading for a few eagles I decided to give the sets a go, and they're... kind of a mixed bag. I was very impressed with Eris' Eagle Interceptor, even the mini-flyer for the ravens is okay. Razcal's Glider (the cheapest set) was actually pretty cool too.

Laval's Royal Fighter (http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=70005-1) on the other hand... Eh, not so good. It's a lot of technic parts to build up a frame, the treads are fixed at that strange angle, and there's really not much else to it. Though I will say the brick-built lion head on the front is impressive, as is the gun/cannon on the back. As a big tank I like there should be more bricks to close it up. It's like taking the body off of still-working car.

Wakz' Pack Tracker is much better. The wolf head shape is pretty slick, like the lion head on Laval's tank, and it feels more solid, less naked than the lion vehicle.

Regardless of which group you like, the figures are some of the best I've ever seen from Lego. I agree with what some have said about there being too much going on in the line. It's not just good guys vs bad guys (like Ninjago), it's... every man for himself? I'm excited for some of the upcoming sets though, especially that crazy gorilla mech!

Actually there are factions, Lions, Eagles and Gorillas on the good side and Crocs, Wolves and Ravens on the bad side, not every man for themselves. But I have to agree with you, the figures are some of the best I have seen.

Every time I buy from Lego.com they seem to give me a little unadvertised extra (don't know if this is the norm, maybe I just missed it). Got a $20 Chima set witht a wolf and lion d00d. 70113

Not into Chima but it's not bad minifigure wise. Wish an alligator was in here.

Read back a few pages and you'll see what it is. How many Chi Battles do you have? If its ok, I could use a new Longtooth and his Speedor, mines a bit chewed up...

Both of 'em look cool. I like the Speedorz one, the sticker book will be fun to customize Speedorz with. It doesn't look that bad...

I'll probably pick them up. The minifigure one I can use for extras. It's fun being a huge Chima fan. :classic:

EDIT: Cache has Summer pics up!

70007 Eglor's Twin Bike - I know GRogall has these in his Brickshelf folder. Head over there if you want to take a peek.

I made a review rant of the Speedorz accessory pack. Maybe I was overreacting, as Sci pointed out, but still that set got me mad.

The quality on the pieces is off, too. I'll do some comparison pictures tomorrow, as I might just be paranoid today.

Battle Pack - Note the description says Longtooth, Wilhurt, Crug, and a gorilla. Future battlepack, perhaps?

It's confirmed that the minifigs in this battle pack are Lennox, Winzar, Ewar and Razcal again. I hope there's another battle pack that is called Legends of Chima: Leader Battle Pack which contains Laval, Eris, Cragger and Worriz.

The main reason I got the Chima sets are for the minifigures, and I suppose a lot of people do this too. The fact that they're releasing a bunch of battle packs and multiple Speedorz sets greatly reduces the need to actually buy the larger sets, except for exclusive minifigs though. I think that this won't help the Chima sales at all if people find it easier to get the minifigs in cheaper packs like the Speedorz and battle packs...and those who actually collect sets will end up with a lot of doubles. If only TLC would just release 'soldier' members of the tribes instead of the main characters for the battle packs or some sets, there would at least be variety in the minifigures...

Wow, those are some hi-res pictures! Thanks for showing them! I'm planning on getting this Combat Lair, but for the love of life, judging from the images, they. Have. Tons. Of. STICKERS. I guess it comes with the territory :(

That's a somewhat unusual request... normally, particularly with licensed themes, people complain if there are any important or familiar characters in a battle pack because it means you'll end up with unnecessary duplicates if you buy multiples. Personally, I think it's nice that this battle pack includes more "generic" characters.

Because Laval, Eris, Cragger and Worriz are the only minifigs that included in any expensive sets.

Found a few cool things.

This hints that we might get a Comic Builder on the site. It might include a cool movie making feature, and some animated options!

I just received (as part of my May the 4th be with you order) a "free trial" of Chima, specifically 70113 Chi Battles. Very classy LEGO!

I did an address change for the Club magazine and got the same set.
