CM4Sci Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Forgot to mention, there appears to be a feature where you can raise and lower the Lion head. -Sci Quote
just2good Posted January 22, 2013 Author Posted January 22, 2013 Huw posted some very interesting info about the Speedorz from the Toy Fair here. Quote
Jackattack7 Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 ^^ it says a mini fig called fifty who is a fox!!! In swamp jump. Quote
Lord Rahl of Clannad Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 (edited) Wow! The Lion Chi Temple looks absolutely amazing ! Lagravis looks wonderful as well. This set is the best one in this theme we have good pictures of so far, and we haven't even seen everything yet (the Crocodile vehicle is missing at the moment)! Spider-Man Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Still no info on the bear or rhino tribes? Are they supposed to be released this summer, or winter? Quote
Zarkan Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 (edited) So, with the apparent confirmination of a fox, we are now up to ten tribes. Man, if this is only the first year, I can't imagine how many tribes we'll have by the end of the theme's three planned years. Edited January 22, 2013 by Zarkan Quote
Tobias_Jay Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 ^^ it says a mini fig called fifty who is a fox!!! In swamp jump. Huw said his name was Furty, which to me sounds like a Skunk name (please excuse the fart joke) Quote
Speedza-Demon Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Huw said his name was Furty, which to me sounds like a Skunk name (please excuse the fart joke) The rest of the characters seem to have the first letter of their species in their names, so I think it's most likely a fox. I doubt Lego would make such a bad pun, either. Quote
Kalhiki Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Foxes? Really? I want my Elephant Tribe. Still, just shows how creative Lego can be. I'd like to see what sorts of vehicles they can make for them. Anyway, Chi Temple looks pretty sweet. Sad that it doesn't include the Legend Beast, but I can live. Can't wait to see the other sets. 'Specially the Gorilla Mech. Kalhiki Quote
Tobias_Jay Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Sad that it doesn't include the Legend Beast, but I can live. Can't wait to see the other sets I doubt what they have shown us is everything included in the set. That picture doesn't show Laval, Cragger or Crawley. I also think it is safe to assume that the Crocs will get some sort of vehicle. Also Lagravis looks great. Will probably get him with the Speedor set he comes in. Quote
Spider-Man Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 (edited) Now that picture is just creepy Hands coming out of hands?! Edited January 23, 2013 by Spider-Man Quote
PenPlays Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 (edited) @CM4S Was that your custom Chi Temple I saw on Brickipedia? I must say it looks much more "show-like" and is quite spectacular. The actual set is just amazing, and everything looks exactly how I wanted it to. Edited January 23, 2013 by Penkid11 Quote
Vindicare Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 On the preliminary Chi Temple, where they show the cannon, is that a new sword mold clipped to the wall? It looks different. Quote
PenPlays Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 That sword is new this year. The Temple of Light and the CMF Knight both include it. Quote
Graysmith Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 The Chi Temple looks like a contender for worst set of the year. Good grief it looks terrible. Quote
Shakar Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 I'm not sure of what to think about the Temple set. It feels more like a playset-wall than the castle I was excpeting. Yeah, you'll say "But it's geared towards kids!", but it's a 100 Euro (I guess?) set. It could've had lots of more stuff. Lagravis looks awesome, however. Foxes are cool, but enough mammals now Lego! We need Penguins, because..they're penguins, do I need to explain that? Quote
TheLegoDr Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 I like that older Lion king. I would definitely want to pick him up somehow. I can't wait to see pictures of the other tribes. Quote
DraikNova Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Seems Chima is here in the Netherlands too now. And now I feel stupid for not realizing the speedorz sets already reintroduced the comet piece. Anyway, excited about the news of the Fox tribe. Also, I don't believe we've seen pics of the Ice tower or the Nest Dive before. If we haven't, I'll post pics from the catalog. Quote

Anyway I am disappointed with the figs in the lion chi temple, only one new fig. I thought from the look of the pre pics that we were going to get a new raven, not razar also a new eagle, not ewald (although in the pics the torso is white). And I thought it was Crunket not Crawley, so I don't know if I'm going to pick it up. Edited January 23, 2013 by Jackattack7 Quote
Aanchir Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 The Lion Chi Temple is nowhere near as stellar as I was expecting it to be. The lion head sculpt is frankly the blockiest, least impressive one I've seen in the theme. Lennox's Lion Attack, Laval's Royal Fighter, and the Ultimate Speedor Tournament all have more impressive lion head sculpts. Now, there are definitely some creative design features here, such as the Chi aquifers that feed the two bikes, but on the whole things in this set either feel blocky and basic or jumbled and chaotic. Nowhere near the carefully-sculpted detail that I have become used to with this theme. Looks like the lion head can raise and lower, perhaps, but that doesn't really redeem it in my book. Overall the set's not hideous, but I was clearly mistaken in thinking it would be this theme's Portal of Atlantis or Fire Temple. At least Lagravis looks nice, with his new armor design. Quote
DraikNova Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Sure, the lion head is blocky, but at least it looks more LEGO than the akward head sculpts of the other lions. As a matter of fact, it actually does remind me of the Portal of Atlantis shark head. If only it included a pool of Chi. Sadly, that would probably accelerate it way beyond the price point. Quote

See, I don't feel that way. The other lion head sculpts, IMO, make brilliant use of SNOT techniques to create an irregular shape, whereas this feels very squarish. And perhaps it's just a matter of the sets I tend to prefer, but I don't see how a more squarish brick-built lion head sculpt would feel "more LEGO" than one using more imaginative techniques like those in 70115 (which I'm happy to say I recently acquired). Now, I can see how perhaps a blockier look might have been deliberate to give the impression of a castle rather than a streamlined vehicle, but I still think a more streamlined look would suit the set better just as it did on the gate in 70115. The parts are available, and the scale is not impossible to manage with smoother curves. I imagine the design of this one partially came down to cost-cutting. Perhaps since not all the figs are shown here, there might be a vehicle or something that comes in the set which we're not seeing, which would make the temple itself more forgivable. Perhaps other views might convince me to like the set more, though. I know from experience that a direct front view of a model isn't always the most flattering, and being able to better see the dimensionality of the lion gate might show it in a more positive light.
