NiceBloke Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Hi All, Today whilst rummaging through my local charity shop I came across the Technic set 8649. The box was damaged and taped, but it was only £1.99 I can't pass up LEGO for that price, so I bought it. On the way home, I looked it up on Brickset and saw it was supposed to have 622 pieces. I wasn't holding out much hope that it would be complete, however once I got home and opened it - it's all sealed inside! As far as I can tell everything is there, including the instructions and sticker sheet. A quick look on eBay/Amazon tells me its selling/listing for anything from £20 to over £300 for sets in varying conditions. Have I stumbled upon something rare? I'm only asking cause I want to build it, but being currently unemployed the prospect of a couple of extra notes in my pocket has me in a quandary. Any advice? (lastly, if this is the wrong place to ask this kind of question I'm sorry) Quote
Siegfried Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 It's nothing special. Sell it if you want the money, but I doubt it's destined to be a classic... Quote
idunno101 Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 If you visit brickpicker.com it shows the average amount people are paying for that set (sealed in box and used) right now on ebay so that should help with your decision. Quote
xtremegoogler Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 The lime green on that car looks hideous and the big decals don't help either. Of course, for £1.99 it's a steal, I would have bought it as well and then try to sell it for £20-25, since you said the box was damaged. Just my two cents. Quote

I agree, since he paid so little for it selling it at any kind of price most would consider a fair to good deal should net him some extra money. Quote
Erik Leppen Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Lime is not a color you see a lot in Technic. This set has the most lime Technic parts I know of. That only might make it interesting to part the set out to a Bricklink store - IF you're willing to invest the time, which can be a lot. If you want to sell the set, look at Bricklink's average prices: Bricklink Price Guide for 8649. As I look at it, prices are raising pretty high! If yours is new (not built) and complete (not sealed), without box, you might be able to ask in the range of EUR 80! Quote
happymark Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 I use bricklink price guide. http://www.bricklink.com/catalogPG.asp?S=8649-1 your condition is somewhere between new and used. so I think it is worth about $50-$100. Quote
spzero Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 for the cost of two quid why not just build it if you like it, and sell it on for £20.00 as new built your still quids in and get the joy of building a set, or if your really skint stick it on a online auction site with some good photo's. It is a bit ugly as far as sets go but because of the rare coloured pieces could be a better option on Bricklink Quote
