just2good Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 (edited) The Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity Rover project has reached 10K supporters on Cuusoo! Reddit helped this happen. I don't really care for the project itself. Here is my order of interest: 1. TLoZ project 2. BTTF 3. Portal 4. Modular Western The ones I will not get: -EVE Online -Sandcrawler Edited August 18, 2012 by just2good Quote
purpleparadox Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 It's a neat project. I think I'll have to wait to see a finished model to decide, but if it turns out good...I'd like to have the Curiosity Rover! Quote
idunno101 Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 It's a nice loking model I might buy it depending on the price and the look of the model. The question is will people still have interest in curiosity after this model has gone through review and has been released which willmprobably be 6 months. Quote
Faefrost Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 Wow! I called this one, and it was way faster than I expected. This one is a slam dunk for review. Fairly simple model, designed by a NASA JPL engineer that worked on the rover. Newsworthy and topical. It's just hitting all the buttons. CONGRATS!!! Quote
Hrw-Amen Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 That was a lot quicker than I expected it to be. I have to say it seems like something I would like, (I did support it.) and I think being designed by someone who worked on the project itself is even better. Could be good publicity for both LEGO and NASA here. Hopefully by the time the review process has been gone through and a model produced (Assuming it is of course?) there will be some good, interesting science from the rover to be released. Maybe a times release to coincide with some of the science publications would help sales and interest? I am pretty sure I will buy it anyway as long as it is not ridiculously priced. Quote
ShaydDeGrai Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 Wow, for something that had nothing to do with an existing pop franchise, this thing just flew through the process. It got more _votes_ in one day than some of my projects have even gotten _views_ in their lifetimes to date. Personally, I like the project. I've got the whole Discovery Science series and this would made a nice companion piece to the 7471 Mars Exploration Rover, I just wish it were a _tad_ bigger, a power function variation would rock (no pun intended). Nightshroud99 Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 I didn't know about this project until after it had gotten 10k votes, but I would have supported it for sure. It's a cool model and perfect for CUUSOO. I can't wait to get one. Quote
Bilbo Baggins Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 Awesome!!!! I'm really looking forward to see this set get made. Quote
Robominer Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 Well, after LEGO made the Haybusa, I can definitely see them doing this. Quote
Masked Builder Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 I see this set happening, but I really only see the NASA people buying it. It all has to do with timing. Quote
ShaydDeGrai Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 I see this set happening, but I really only see the NASA people buying it. It all has to do with timing. If the actual build were a little bigger and more complex, I could see myself buying it and I don't work for NASA; but I am a bit of an engineering geek, so I'm not sure I'm really disproving your point, only pointing out that there might be enough non-NASA geeks out there to support it regardless of the timing. Hey, I'd buy an Apollo-Soyuz link up kit if they made one and I'd be willing to bet that most active Lego consumers today hadn't even been born when that was making headlines. Quote
harakiri Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 instant buy for me. I am sure it will look nice besides my Shinkai sub Quote

The Sky-crane piece of it might meet your standards. That is an optional part of the project. Quote
ShaydDeGrai Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 The Sky-crane piece of it might meet your standards. That is an optional part of the project. I like the sky crane. I think it adds a lot to the project (and I mentioned this to the CUUSOO people on the support dialog so hopefully they'll keep that in mind if/when this passes review and they start adapting it to their own modelling standards) Quote
CP5670 Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 This is a nice model, and is something I could imagine actually being an official set unlike a lot of the Cuusoo stuff. I like the sky crane better than the rover itself though; it seems like some compromises had to be made on the rover due to the scale. Stephen (the person who made this) is a great guy by the way. His models were next to mine at the last Brickfair and he had this on display alongside a clock showing the time left for the real rover to land, which was going to happen the day after the event.
