Boomingham heals himself and Skrall quickly and effectively, while Ellaria consumes a Nostrum, and feels luckier already. Skrall can't ward off the Naga, and again suffers a hit. The Angry Crab changes his assault from Rufindel to Nyx, who takes a fair amount of damage as well from the quick and strong pincers. Atramor manages to sneak up to the Naga and hit him in the side with the flail, causing him to take some damage and more importantly, get poisoned and his(her, it's?) defenses lowered. How, you ask? Use your imagination. "It has been a long time since I've been in top fighting condition, but I think I've just rolled back into it." Boomingham swings at the Naga twice. Battle Order Boomingham Nyx Atramor Skrall Seaweed! Ellaria Quote
CMP Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Atramor grins as he realizes the seaweed is actually helping them - and that he'd summoned it. "That's gotta be one of the weirdest things I've seen in my life...but as long as he helps, I suppose." He acknowledged Boomingham's request, stowing the flail in exchange for Ratsbane. The repeatedly imbued weapon should quadruple the damage dealt to Plants, so it was without question that he hacked at the opposing Angry Seaweed from the front row. Seeing the crab prying its claws away from Nyx and scuttling towards him, he diverted his strike briefly, swiftly kicking the friendly, yet Angry pile of Seaweed towards the Angry Crab in front row. Waterbrick Down Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 (edited) OoC: I don't think my damage was subtracted from my health this last round. Boomingham gets too close to the Naga, and has to sustain a bite from the Naga's sharp teeth, but a strong thrust from his sword to the weakened Naga ensures his assault was not for nothing. Nyx also deals a fair amount of damage with her stream of green magic. Atramor cuts away with his enchanted blade at the Seaweed, which he cuts up in tiny pieces. Skrall also manages to hit the weakened Naga, and damages it even further. The Angry Crab is stuck in the friendly seaweed, and somehow slips, and is turned upside down. Ellaria finally figures out the scroll, and succesfully strengthens Nyx, but also causes her to be more vulnerable. The Naga also takes double poison damage. Sliding the dagger back into its sheath, he pulls out the as-of-yet unused Staff of the Elven Warlock. Maybe his recent training with the Heavy Flail would make it a bit less unwieldy, as he'd usually seen staves. Both he and his Angry Seaweed made their way to the weakened, poisoned Angry Naga, both attacking from the front row. From all on the ship tiny spores and seeds that have come on to the ship by accident suddenly bloom! It's a beautiful sight, and everyone on the ship feels a lot better because of it, including Rufindel, who joins the Heroes in the land of the living. Atramor deals a decent hit, and so does Nyx, whose spell, strengthened by Ellaria's magic, completely blows the crab into tiny pieces. Skrall hits the Naga with a bolt, before the Seaweed brings down the final blow, after which it slides back into the ocean. The party catches their breath among the cut up Seaweed, diced crab, and chunks of dead naga, before someone realizes, they could make Sushi! THE BATTLE IS VICTORIOUS! Boomingham, Ellaria and Rufindel gain half a level, Skrall, Nyx and Atramor gain a third of a level, Boomingham, Atramor and Rufindel level up. CMP Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Atramor raised an eyebrow as the Angry Seaweed took part in the Roots of Life, growing numerous tendrils and helping to heal the party, and as it smacked the Angry Naga into submission. As soon as it was done, though, it gurgled a satisfied <Had that coming, scales,> and proceeded to slide overboard, landing with a splash in the ocean. He blinked, but was quite proud that, as short as it lasted, he'd had a minion. It was a good feeling, having control over a being entirely devoted to his aid... "Would ya' look at that, we all got experience and a nice pile of loot for just a Grand Tonic and a Nostrum. A good trade, I'd say. Well, I've already got a new weapon, I don't think the Aquamarine would be of any particular value to me, and I can heal myself if I need to. So...Smellin' Salts or just gold, if ya' don't mind, Boomin'ham." He then leaned against the railing of the ship, scrubbing bits of seaweed off of Ratsbane, and snake blood off of the Heavy Flail and the Staff of the Elven Warlock, using his cloak. Quote
Zepher Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 "Well then, that wasn't so awful, was it?" Boomingham looks at the things the sea creatures had left behind. "Ellaria, I think you might have been a bit slighted last time we gave out things, since you didn't like that banana I gave you. The Aquamarine is your's, though if you wouldn't mind loaning it to Nyx until we're back in Eubric and you can put it to good use, I'd be most obliged. Smelling Salts are your's, Atramor. Thanks for working with us instead of near us this time around. Ogre, you could do with a Grand Potion, you seem to take damage more often than not. Finally, for my dearest Madam Mage, I present thou with this here fishstick. Put it to good use. I know it don't smell good, but you're the only one here who can wield it. As for the gold, 5 for the Ogre, 5 for Atramor, 10 for Nyx, 40 for Rufindel, and I'll keep the final 40. Fair? This loot distribution is a headache. Back in the Orcish Invasion, it used to be that you got what you picked up." Quote
CMP Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 "Well, Skrall could use the Fishstick too, but there's hardly a point..," noted Atramor, nodding towards the oversize broadsword slung across the Ogre's back, and pocketing the Smelling Salts and coin. "Where I come from, the lootin' usually goes 'if ya' see it, take it'. And, er, 'if someone's reachin' for it, stab 'em'. Simpler, but messier..." He shook his head, turning to the paladins. "Seems ya' certainly didn't have the diplomacy skills to be paladins either, considerin' how badly ya' seem to have gotten taken with that fishin' rod." Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Skrall stows the grand potion in his satchel. "Thanks yer Majesty. Now then, I'd feel like a proper introduction at some point might be in order perhaps over some sushi. I know Ms. Nyx and Atramor here, his highness has quite the reputation in the hall, but you two," Skrall glances at the Druid and Cleric, "I have not had the pleasure of bein' acquainted with yet, though both of yer healin' powers are well appreciated." Rufus Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 'Urgh.' Rufindel rubs his head. 'Ellaria, thank you. I am in your debt. Boomingham, this gold will help me repay that sharky creature. Thanks.' 'Skrall, it is a pleasure. I just hope I can be more use alive in the next battle.' Quote
Sandy Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Ellaria thanks Boomingham, but let's Nyx keep the aquamarine. "It is a precious item, but Nyx will make more use of it than I. I know I could sell it, but that would be selfish in my opinion." "Anyway, well fought, everyone. It's a shame that the seaweed did not stick around. It was really quite a useful little fellow. Edgar and it would've probably gotten on well... I really hope this is the worst thing that will happen on this boatride, so please, no more fishing." Ellaria wraps her muffler tighter around her neck to protect herself from the chilly sea breeze. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted September 9, 2012 Author Posted September 9, 2012 A few days go by. (sorry.) The heroes sleep on the deck at night, and enjoy the good weather at day. They pass the time by sparring among themselves, Skrall tries fishing with his crossbow, with limited success, Ellaria mostly stands near the railing looking in front of her, Rufindel spends most of the time asleep, Atramor helps the crew out a little bit here and there and Nyx and Boomingham play games with Mac, who wins most of the time. Finally, on the fourth day at sea, the cabin's door opens, and the captain comes walking out. "Heroes, I have been organizing and discussing with Patricia's men, my excuses that I have not come to you sooner. We can discuss things now..." Then, a voice from the crow's nest interrupts Captain Lorenzo: "Captain, A ship, on starboard, she is on our course." "Sails and flag?" "None, sir." "Damn it, Ignacio, get down from there and secure the ropes, Jacob, get the cutlasses, Bob, take the helm, Whales, Christian, hoist the sails. Mac, get me my Telescope!" The crew hurries to perform the duties given by their Captain, and not before too long, Mac brings the telescope. The captain looks through it, before handing it over to the Heroes, who each take a good look through it. "I'm afraid our talk will have to wait. Slavers. We can do this two ways, they will try to board us, they want our ship and our cargo, and more importantly, us. We can either wait for them on our ship, and attack them as they try and board as a group. Or we can do a counter attack, where we board their ship as they board ours, which will hopefully surprise them. The crew will have to stay on board to defend this ship. It's up to you." Quote
Sandy Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 "Wait, what? Orcish slavers?!" Ellaria wonders out loud. "I was under the impression that the greenskins were the enslaved ones, but apparently everything is different abroad... I most certainly will not let myself be enslaved by anyone, no matter what their race is." Quote
Zepher Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Boomingham grumbles. "Greenskins. I'm afraid, my dear Ellaria, that in slavery the enslaved's brethren are sometimes the ones selling them. You must expect the least out of the greenskins. They are strangers to honor." Boomingham downs a mead and then unsheathes his King of the Desert. "Here's the plan, chappos. We wait for them on the ship. When they get close, Nyx, you set their boats ablaze. I don't doubt a number of them will make it aboard, but they'll be injured, and surely some will perish. Fire on the high water is much more dangerous than it may sound. We will all stand at the railing and cut down any who come aboard. It isn't the most honorable course of action, but slaving isn't the most honorable profession. They deserve what's coming to them." Boomingham stands grimly, staring out at the boats. OoC: Beautiful picture and story so far, Scuba. Also, I've never asked anyone to use ether out of a battle before, I sure hope this works. Quote
