JillyB Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 (edited) Hi All I am new to Lego and have just inherited about 300 boxes of Lego all all types and sizes (from the Taj Mahal to a small car) I can not possibly store all this Lego and I am planning to sell it via Ebay or...any suggestions? The person who owned this collection is now deceased and on checking a few boxes have found that he had an odd way of storing his collection e.g. all the minifigs are separate from the kits. Consequently, without making all the kits I am not 100% sure that everything is in place, is it easy to buy missing pieces or is it best to sell advising of any anomalies?. Another example is in one kit the horses armour is different to the picture on the box - is this very important for collectors when buying kits. I have many more questions but that is a start, if anyone could kindly help I would be very grateful. I live in the UK. Thanks Edited August 19, 2012 by JillyB Quote

Second, that is a lot of Lego to inherit! Without building all of them or having the proper minifigs with the right set, it is VERY important to let bidders know that it is an "incomplete set". You should expect that, like everything else, a non-complete set will fetch less than a "100% complete". Mislabeled auctions tend to really anger collectors... finding new part, ordering other parts to even out shipping cost, extra shipping cost, etc ( a part could be 0.10 EUR, but cost 2.5EUR to ship). It's best to be as honest as you can, to avoid negative feedback. Some sets, like the Taj Mahal, could benefit from a few hours of your time to inventory. As for different parts on a box vs. parts in the set: The previous owner may have switched or mixed them with another set. I know of no instances of a part being on the box and not included with the set. I'm pretty sure that all or most collectors, like myself, are after 100% complete sets or close to complete sets. If the sets are in pieces and you have no way to have a good idea of how complete the set is, it's best to state that. As a big buyer of used sets on eBay, I can get a good idea of how complete a small to medium sized set is, based on a few good, clear, pics of the set and/ or pieces. Instructions should also be noted as included or not. Same goes with the original set box. Parts, it is possible to get replacement parts for the sets. The downside is the condition of the set condition vs. the condition of the piece(s). Lego are UV sensitive and will show that if they were not properly cared for. If certain sets have dull or "yellowed" pieces, mention that, along with the set completion info in the auction description. Another option is to get a scale and weigh out bins, and sell them in lb lots or by set lots (numerous sets; 1 auction). Finally, if this all too much, I make it easy for ya.. 50Eur + ship and I take it off your hands! I kid, but I hope all that helps! Quote

Thanks Hi there. with a good 300 set collection the fees for selling on ebay will be VERY high. With some of the larger sets you could list them over in the bazzar thread that is newly opened up for people with a lot of stuff to sell.(i would make sure and make a note that some peices may be wrong. Or if you need to get rid of them fast and are willing to dispose of them at a fairly low price i will certanly take some off you. Oh and if you have any batman sets please let me know before listing them as i will buy a few. Quote

True, but doesn't the staff keep a close eye on that since there were a lot of people joining just to sell? I set a sell thread in there a few months after I joined in 2010, no bites and I'm still afraid to rekindle it! I'll be an outlaw in the real world not here! Quote

Rufus Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Hi JillyB, and welcome to Eurobricks. Please note that we discourage people joining just for the purpose of selling, which is why we don't allow people to post in the Buy/Sell/Trade/Finds forum until they've made 100 posts. However, since you have asked for advice on selling elsewhere, rather than trying to initiate a sale on this site, I'll let people address your questions here. My advice would be: if you have the time, try to sort the sets as much as possible so they are complete. You'll get much more that way. Rufus Quote
