Excellent work her Oky. I'm still on the fence about this set, but I think I'm going to skip it. I really prefer the older dark blue Spiderman more. The rest of the set isn't to bad though.

If you just want a Spidey minifig, I would probably skip this one though, because rumor has it that he will be available in an even cheaper set next year with two much more desirable characters, Venom and Nick Fury.

The Nick Fury fig is supposed to be from another Spidey set? No more Avengers...? :hmpf_bad:

Thanks again, everyone! And I just learned that this year is Spidey's 50th anniversary! How fitting! :sweet:

I disagree with the new one having a lot more detail. The old versions also have abs and musculature printed on, they are just a very light color. The new one instead has thick black muscle printing. It's more visible, but a lot less subtle. It works since this is based off of a cartoon, and LEGO is going for a cartoony look. It's also in line with Wolverine's crazy muscles also defined in black. The old Spider-Man figures are equally detailed, I would say.

Hm, you're right. But I think the muscles on the old one were a bit too subtle. Being able to see their outlines clearly does make the new one seem more detailed though, even if in a cartoony way (which as you said is appropriate, given the source material). That's just my opinion though.

I think this set makes a nice playset but not worth the price :sceptic:

Care to explain why?

Nice review Oky! I actully kind of like this version of Doc Oc,long hair from being in his lab for so

long, reflective glasses, its sorta creepy!

[rant]He does look interesting, but what I don't like is his character. They make look really weak in the show, but physically and mentally. He can't move or breath without his tentacles, so his organic limbs usually just dangle down from his body. What's the point of calling yourself Doctor Octopus if half of your limbs are useless? :hmpf_bad: But what's even worse is that he works for Norman Osborn who treats him like a child. All this makes him a pretty pathetic villain as opposed to his usually awesome depictions like in Spider-Man 2 or The Spectacular Spider-Man. He's supposed to be a criminal mastermind with eight strong limbs, not some emo creep with four tentacles on Osborn's payroll. :sadnew: [/rant]

I dunno, to me he looks more like an aged Harry Potter with his reverse head!

And now I het it what's wrong with the http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7115/7563113436_e5c059fe00_z.jpg"]new Spidey fig (at least for me). Blue on his torso looks like a tuxedo print! See? Those "triangles" look very much like those of Penguin, or Joker figs..... :hmpf_bad:

 True.

No, no more Avengers sets I believe, but all signs point to us getting Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 sets next year.

I actually like his character's portrayle though, im in the small minority that does.

But,

1. He's mostly paralyzed from that lab explosion that almost killed him, machinery keeps him alive.

2. Spidey made up the name during their fight, he was referred as Otto or Octavious before that, never Doc Ock.

3 He is shown to be intelligent coming up with plans, inventing things, creating the Venom symbiote, why else would Osborn hire him?

1. Yes, but the accident is supposed to make him stronger, not weaker. :hmpf_bad:

2. It doesn't matter who gave him the name; he is not really an octopus if he can't use all of his eight limbs.

3. Sure, he is still a brilliant scientist, but all of his plans failed, and the real mastermind was Osborn.

Anyway, this is getting off-topic, so let's agree to disagree. Besides, this is Lego, so even though the minifig looks like the Doc Ock from the show, he can have any personality we want in our imagination.

*Sigh*... Perhaps in a few years, then, for Avengers 2.

Care to explain why?

This set costs $40 here in Canada.

I think we could have gotten a bit more with that price like a better vehicle or another section to the lab..

I'm having the same problem with Palpatine's Arrest :def_shrug:

Thank you Oky for this fine review. Gotten this set recently and I got to admit that my sole main purpose of acquiring this set is because I want to own my first LEGO Spiderman minifigure and this set happen to fufill that promise. The built does not really matters to me but I find the overall design structure and the vehicle to be rather weak. Furthermore, I had never watched the animated version before and my memories of Spiderman remain at the 1990s cartoon.

Nice review Oky. I recently got this set, and I love it! The lab is a nice build, with lots of detail. I also like Doc Ock's little car. I can't say I like his arms though. They're accurate and all, but, they are just so hard to get in a proper position. Spidy and Iron Fist are both really nice figures IMO. Overall, a great set.

I hate the polls on this site. The crappiest of sets will still have pretty darned good votes placing it at least above average. :P

This set is below average. Yes, you can take opinions into account, but some opinions contrary to popular belief, are just wrong. :)

I don't think you understand the concept of an opinion.

I do. That doesn't mean there aren't bad ones. :o

For instance... "I think Mega Bloks is better and of higher quality than Lego."

No, you obviously don't, and yes it does. Just because an opinion is different than yours doesn't mean it's "wrong", so please stop trolling.

I didn't say anything like that. Opinions can be different than mine and not wrong. Stop trolling me by putting words in my mouth. I merely suggested it's a fallacy to say there aren't bad opinions. That's just ridiculous. If someone has an opinion that black people are all thieves that's a bad opinion. If someone has an opinion that 2+2=banana phone then that's a bad opinion. There clearly are bad opinions.

I probably shouldn't push it but honestly it's just such a stupid fallacy I cannot ignore it. Opinions can have value and worth, varying levels of correctness and wrongness, and be intelligent or stupid. I didn't come in here to troll but to state strongly that this set isn't very good in my opinion via an exaggeration and simile, but I guess that went over some heads.

I see your point. Sorry if I misunderstood what you meant to say, but regardless of the emoticons your initial post was still quite insulting towards anyone who voted this set anything above "below average" which includes my vote. Perhaps if you would have just said why this set is below average in your opinion instead of coming in here and basically saying "this set and your opinions suck" we wouldn't have taken it the wrong way.
