Since they've got a Stoned minifig (s7's Hippie) do you think they'll ever have a gay minifigure?

ie a stereotypical Male Hairdresser or Stylist or something obviously camp?

It would be awesome, I know obviously Minifigs are devoid of sexuality but with the stoner already out, it wouldn't be pushing the envelope THAT much.

Well being a hippie doesn't mean that your stoned and they can't do anything too strero-typical because people would complain! Too be honest with you I can see a real use for a male stylist

Actually, I could bet about a billion dollar AGAINST any odd of seing a gay minifigure!

They didn't even thought about babies (at least you can see children, but not babies)... why should they concern about gays, lesbian, bi, pan, asexuals and so on?

I hope sexuality will stay out of LEGO forever, it would ruin my favourite toy/hobby.

Though I respect your hopinion, I think your suggestion is horrible for a toy line.

Actually you put no emoticons to show you were just joking. I was worried, really.

yeah, I sorta do that in real life too, say things dead pan so people don't know if I'm joking or not and it seems to seep into my online stuff too haha but yeah, though to answer the Q- yes, there have been babies before!

Yes they did but not in actual minifig scale! :D

Not LEGO brand, maybe megablocks or something!

I dunno, I don't pay any attention to any brand but LEGO- maybe it was a MOC somewhere? hmmm lol either way I know I've seen little lego babies, thought they were cute!

Ok but there is no brick round decorated 1 x 1 with anything like you say. Source: bricklink :)

Ooh, there's an idea... a series of just historical figures in LEGO could be cool. Lincoln, Alexander the Great, the possibilities are endless.

Oh, and Holmes needs his Dr. Watson... and Professor Moriarty. (Hmmm... wouldn't a LEGO line based on the Sherlock Holmes canon be kinda cool?)

Are you sure? I vaguely remember them being round 1x1 bricks with closed eyes painted on them or summin

Custom non-lego but lego compatible baby bricks (inhale) were made (link).

Original flavor:

Zombie flavor:

And lego micro figures are baby-ish. I have both the pink and blue one in the middle, and though the pink one may pass for a toddler, the blue one needs a shave first.

Being gay is more than just what happens between the sheets. It can also be seen as a way of life. Besides, there are blatantly heterosexual minifigs out there (such as the wedding couples and the parents), why aren't they ruining your hobby?

I actually don't see a male hairstylist as that farfetched of an idea... Of course TLG wouldn't market it as a GAY minifig, but there can be allusions. Just like with the hippie and his crossed eyes.

Honestly, even a stereotypical "gay" or "lesbian" minifig would be perfectly okay with me if only to put a dent on the heteronormative mould that LEGO has concerning the minifigs. But that's my own queer opinion.

Actually, wedding couples or parents are NOT a main theme on lego, they are something really really borderline, they are not such important.

(Plus, you can take two grooms and make a gay couple, or two brides and make a lesbian couple, so this really doesn't say anything!)

And they don't ruin my hobby since I think children are meant to know that a couple should be composed by man and woman.

Of course this is just my opinion but I feel quite happy that TLG shares my vision.

Actually, you are too malicious seeing he being drug addicted. I own dozens of that minifig and I never linked the two things. Nor I believe that TLG wanted to do any allusions. I believe most of the people here would confirm.

And you have to respect other ones', such as mine. Lego is a toy, is concerned for children, it's not time to mess their brains with straight vs gay fights that are related to adults only. Most of you seem actually to forget always this thing: LEGO is for CHILDREN. If any adult is happy playing with it, like I do, it's ok, but we should never ask for something that involves aspects of adult life.

By the way I'm not a moderator but this discussion is NOT related to series 9 minifigures, so this is getting heavily out of topic.

The Harry Potter theme's Dumbledore is a gay minifig. Just sayin'.

Also I still think the series 9 list is dodgy.

So you only allow sexuality in a toy if it's your sexuality. Got it.

You can't argue the fact that the hippie's eyes are crossed. It's a humorous allusion to the hippie way of life - which involved drugs and free sex, among others. Kids wouldn't know anything about it, but it gives us adults a few chuckles. If we get the joke, that is.

I accept your differing opinion, but I don't have to respect it. I will argue that LEGO (and other toys) already portrays numerous aspects of adult life that children won't normally experience in their own everyday life (driving, war, crime, marriage, family, housekeeping, firefighting... you name it!). Playing with toys is how children learn about these things. If children are only offered toys where men are doctors and women are nurses, that's the way they will think it has to be. The same applies to relationships: if all children see in toys and media are heteronormative families, they will think that is the only way of life.

By the way, I'm a kindergarten teacher by profession, so I happen to know quite a deal about the importance of playing. Despite being gay, I don't teach the children at the day care center to be "queer", but I do teach them about different walks of life, about tolerance and about respect.

We're discussing whether there should be a collectable minifig that breaks the norm of what's seen as "socially acceptable" for a man (or a woman). It's a tender issue that is sure to rouse opinions, but why couldn't we have a civilized conversation about it, despite our differing opinions?

If the list is real I hope the "Downtown Cop" has one of these hats:

No, the simple fact that you consider homosexuality a lifestyle and I consider it a SEXUAL preference, makes our opinion unmatchable.

I strongly believe one shouldn't be able to say if one is homosexual or heterosexual by just watching at him/her. What one does under the sheets, who's one's guest in one's bed, should concern only that person, not all the world. Sexuality is a precious thing, the most you share it with the world, the least value it keeps.

So, possibly every minifig is gay/lesbian, you just believe it is the way you like the most.

If one puts his/her sexuality in someone's face, he/she has serious problems. If one acts feminine to prove himself gay, my, he has some real issues with his life.

And to end, if you

I accept your opinion, but I don't have to respect it.

don't respect other people's opinion, sorry, I'm unable/unwilling to proceed on this topic, as I have wide horizons and I'm uneasy with people haven't those.

PS:

Yes I can argue as:

they do NOT seem crossed to me.

Well this discussion seems to be swerving off the road... Let's hope it doesn't go crashing over a cliff!

I don't think LEGO should try to enforce sexuality into their minifigures. Not really gonna say anymore about it.

Itaria No Shintaku summed it up pretty well for me.

But on the actual topic of the minifigures in the list, the idea of the policeman getting a donut sounds pretty neat. Donuts in LEGO form would rock! :moar:
