Hi Guys,

Here is my latest update on the Clone helmet, pretty much finished now.

img_0593.png

I finished of the top of the head trying to keep as many studs as possible.

img_0594.png

I will come back to this and maybe do some colour variations but I want to add the special attachments like electrobinoculars, sun visor, flash light and range finder. For now I need to concentrate on getting my SW CB going.

When I get time I want to do a 360 spin around .gif :sweet:

Here is an updated 360 view of the current version. I need to widen and work more on the top of the head more but its taking shape and close to completion.

Here is a little progress of the build and how MOC has come along.

chp1_progress.jpg

If this build is successful I would like to make more helmets at this scale. I really need to scale down my builds as I really don't have enough parts for large MOC's. As always the smaller you build the less parts you need but the more creativity you need to be in making your MOC's. I could get much better organic curved shapes building say a scale 1:1 helmet but I would run out of parts trying to make it.

I will get more pics up as the build comes along. Keep an eye out for updates. C & C welcome.

Changed huge image to link.

This is a great start wokajablocka! I’m really curious to see where you take this build. I had thought about doing one myself, but didn’t. Good luck! I’ll be watching closely.

This is a really good start, but it needs a bit of work. My suggestion would be to add tiles to the studded parts or use bricks instead of plates. Either way, I can see alot of potential for this, so keep going! :classic:

This is far from finished but I really wanted to get away from the solid block build, but might have to build the top of the helmet solid. I really wanted the helmet hollow like the real thing so I wanted to build in a different style.

Im not sure if I would have enough white flat plates to cover it. I still have a few ideas up my sleeve though.

Wow, that image is way too big! I change it into a link for now.

Could you please reduce the pics size to 800 pixels maximum, as per our Member Guidelines? Thank you.

If you need help with re-sizing images, you can find an useful tutorial by following the link in my signature.

This is sure something different from what we have seen so far as far as MOCs go! I'm very interested to see how this project will develope! :sweet:

All fixed now. I uploaded the wrong pic from my iPhone and didn't realize it was huge when I posted it, sorry man I should know better after being a member for a few years now  .

I haven't seen a project like this, great imagination. How long have you spent on it?

Thanks jaszz_lego .I been thinking lately that I want to create something more original. Moodswim has created his own scale and style a few times now and I just don't want to make another X-wing system scale etc that has been done a thousand times before  . I wanted something more original and (+ my build will look better if there are no other MOC like it to compare it to  ).

So far I spend around 6 hours so far but that includes finding and sorting as well. I need to find more white wing plates in 3, 4 and 6 long. I spent another hour on it last night playing with the visor shape a bit more. I will get time tonight to work on it again so I might have an update to show tomorrow.

Added another update, see first post. Now its much more accurate, solid and working on my SNOT techniques to get the top of the head right. I've closed a lot of the gaps in the build to make it look more solid.

C&C welcome.

This is turning up really nicely!

I wish you could be able to plate it...I think it'll look better smooth :classic:

This is looking really good, The fin is really well shaped, and the hubcap pieces are a great use.

I have to say, I was a little skeptical about this build at first (sorry), but the finished piece turned out very nicely! I love how you achieved the details of the faceplate. :classic:

This is great Woka! You’ve captured the look of the helmet nicely and I don’t mind the studs. I especially like what you’ve done with the eyes and mouth.:thumbup:

Well I was starting to think the same thing *huh* , but I kept at it and it turned out OK in the end  . My main problem was reference material, I was working of some pics on the net and a Clone action figure helmet that was a little deformed and not very accurate.

The back still needs work and I think the dome on the top need to come back one stud and looks a little short compared to the front. The over all proportions are pretty much there.

I spent a lot of time getting the visor accurate as this is the signature of the Clone helmet and need to be the right shape to look right.

That MOC has a major flaw :hmpf_bad:

You can't wear it :hmpf:

Though it would be awesome to make a life sized helmet, I dam near ran out of the click hinge bricks used to shape the helmet and white plates where getting low so I wouldn't be able to go that big. Originally my size was set from the visor and using the 4x2 wedge plate.

Sorry to disappoint you Bob  .

Thanks man, I would have loved to tile and snot it to get rid of all the studs but would have been imposable with my current element selection. I did put a bit of work into it getting as many studs visible as possible. I would love to come back to this build and mod it more if and when I get time.

I'm not completely happy with the snot work on the head with the layer of plates between every level but it made the shape work better IMO.

Great job, that helmet looks pretty accurate, but as already said, too bad you can't wear it

Thanks mate. I will try and find something to wear it, maybe my plush Lego Minifig.

Very nice, though the whole front view-plate is black, you've got a few dark bley bits on there. Placeholders?

I'm glad you do like it as from the start it was not look like it was going to turn out the best, but hay even I surprise myself sometimes.

I had trouble deciding to make it black or dark bley. When looking at reference pics they had both colours used. This is the main reference pic I was working from.

review_efxCloneP1_03.jpg

I think in reality it is dark grey and had black stripes on it but could not replicate that at this scale. I would have loved to have a replica 1:1 scale to work from to shape it much better and get the details right.

This is fantastic. You were able to capture the complex geometries quite well.

Thank you glenbricker, you have done some nice geometry on your Corellian Defender as well.
