December 29, 201212 yr Provide picture of cat, and I'll be willing to look into it. That made me laugh! But seriously I can't wait to see the completed MOC! And I'm really looking forward to the Roof Zen Garden. Thanks for the update.
January 10, 201312 yr Author /Sigh Construction is going slower than expected. The LDD to Bricklink parts list seems to have missed quite a few core elements, so the convoy of small padded envelopes has continued nonstop for the past week or more. The good news is I think I finally have all of the correct and the corrected parts, so building should occur next week. In the meantime here are the LDD reworks and renders on the improvements to the ground floor comic shop. The full LDD impression And a quick render to get a feel for how it will look in the brick If I can figure out how to upload an LDD file to the forums I will put it up fpr anyone who wishes to mess with it. The final stages will be to add in appropriate signage and product in the stores. I was worried about how I was going to create some nice Lego type comic book covers for display in this thing, when a miracle happened. You all, our friends at EB have answered my prayers with that nice Comic Cover Contest. So please I beg your permission and forgiveness to use reduced pictures of some of your comic cover mocs as actual displayed comic books in this comic store MOC. Anyway thank you for suffering through my assort ravings as I teach myself how to do all of this. As I said this was my first LD MOC, My first attempt to convert something from LD to real brick, My first attempts to custom order the specific parts that I needed from Bricklink. It's been quite the magical learning experience. Thank you all! Next Update will be a mostly finished building and starting work on the subtler details such as the Dentists office and clientele. Thank you for reading. Edited January 10, 201312 yr by Faefrost
January 10, 201312 yr Great thread Faefrost and amazing looking MOC...I love the level of detail and design shown. Your on a similar journey as myself, where I'm trying to take the plunge into the world of MODs MOCs and BrickLink Love your work...can't wait to hear how you get on and see the finished build!
January 10, 201312 yr Very nice! I like how you were able to distinguish all three of the businesses inside with apporpriate signage on the front, yet keep the whole building unified at the same time. Good job!
January 11, 201312 yr I saw this in your signature earlier, it's great! The exterior is really eye catching. With the big "GAMES" sign and teeth sign(s). The zen garden on top looks a bit strange, but it works. Really great job, I'd certainly buy this on release date like I do with the official ones.
January 11, 201312 yr Author Ummm? Release date? No no this is a purely teach myself to do this and sit in the shelf kind of MOC. If anyone wishes the LDD files to try and make or adapt it just ask. All I request is that they are personal use only.

Me too, I saw the building in your signature and missed out on this topic. At first glance the three different floors were a bit strange together, a dojo, comicstore and a dentist in one modular! The building looks much better now you have modified it a little. I really like your signs, the words seemed to be too large for Lego signs, but they look great. I also like your entrance to the comicshop and the colors blend in really well, great job! Edited January 11, 201312 yr by Phazon
January 11, 201312 yr Author Thanks all. Sadly the comic shop entrance is one of the areas that I am still tinkering with. That and the third floor corner windows. I'm not happy with the gaps and the offset connections still feel a little fragile.
January 11, 201312 yr The instructionsmanual from the GE might help, because those windows look like the ones you built. Anyways if the entrance isn't too fragile and if you have no plans for the building other than displaying it at home, you won't have to change anything, but that's just my opinion. I don't exactly know how you built the entrance, but a small interior piece which is placed against the offset angular bricks is what I would use for more stability.
January 11, 201312 yr Author /sigh! Don't you hate when you get rolling good, only to discover that one critical envelope of parts hasn't arrived yet?
January 11, 201312 yr /sigh! Don't you hate when you get rolling good, only to discover that one critical envelope of parts hasn't arrived yet? I find myself in that boat often and I'm happy to see I'm not the only one who has a table full of Glad food containers to sort lego. Despite missing a bag, you have a good start on the main floor. Gives one a good sense of what the outcome will be.
January 16, 201312 yr Author WooHoo! Progress!! OK OK I'm just excited because I finally got to do some major construction. (Sorry the pictures aren't great, just a quick shot from my work table) Not anywhere near finished yet, but taking shape enough to get a good feel for how my insane decisions look in real life. I really like how the red windows look on the dark flesh. But please if I ever get the idiotic idea to just randomly pick and match colors from LDD before actually figuring out just how unusual the pieces needed are, just shoot me. Getting the red and blue windows was an expensive chore. I'm actually hoping for a little feedback and advice tonight. I like how the have colors turned out. But I think I need to figure out a way to add a little more texture, particularly in a few areas of the second story. It just feels a bit flat in places. Also a suggestion for the minifig for the alcove. I used the Statue of Liberty originally because my working name for the store has been "Liberty Comics", but I am not sure if that's how I want to keep it? Finally I made it all this way and just realized I forgot to work out a street level scene to go with it? Since I haven't figured out how to do crime scene tape and a chalk outline in Lego yet, does anyone have any friendly suggestions or challenges? Edited January 16, 201312 yr by Faefrost
January 17, 201312 yr Author The building itself is complete (baring a few minor details that I am still waiting on parts for. Some Ninjago pieces are sub'ing on the roof for now). All that remains is to finish the interiors. Thank you all for your support and encouragement. This was the first time I took something from a digital design all the way to completion in the brick, and is also the first time I have tried a real full scale large MOC. It's been one of the most rewarding things to see those cartoony LDD designs and the POVRay rendering manifest as this in the brick. It's been quite the learning experience. The end tally 2600+ bricks. Total cost ~ $250 ($50+ of which were the hard to find windows and a few other poorly thought out piece choices on my part).
January 18, 201312 yr It's been one of the most rewarding things to see those cartoony LDD designs and the POVRay rendering manifest as this in the brick. I know the feeling. Congratulations - the result is really nice! Hopefully it won't be your last :)
