We are more progressive, and have no problems with the living! You see, we still have the occasional dead person, like the vampire there, but you could say our numbers have really spiked since the change in rule!" Guts turns to Skuld and whispers to her: "How does Shaun look? It's important." Edited October 24, 2012 by Scubacarrot Quote
Sandy Posted October 24, 2012 Author Posted October 24, 2012 Benji speaks up before the idiot Guts gets a chance: "What would the benefits of becoming undead be?" "Not that I'm interested, of course." Benji adds gruffly. "Why, you get to live forever! Helvetia is the only one who can grant life eternal, no matter what those blathering alchemists may claim. And when Zoot claims this world, all that will be left will be us Undying, children of Helvetia." "Helvetia?" Sküld whispers in terror. "The Nôrns worship the same goddess as her?" Quote

Flare Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 (edited) Benji whispers back: "Excuse me, polishing my nails!? I was the one who gave the finishing strike the Murkwood Mother. Professor Flitwick Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 "Gentlemen, Gentlemen please this is no time for petty squabbling! Kindly continue this later, but right now our main priority is to locate Shaun. Now, I haven't been on best terms with Mr. Holla, but we need to bluff our way as much as possible, in order to get all the possible information on his whereabouts. Now, I beg your party, but I have an enquiry of my own..." "Our party was once larger, but we've lost track of a few on the way. If I might inquire, Ms. Ziegfried, whom where the last people you permitted to enter your flock, and how long ago were they inducted?" "So, you would like to meet the congregation, then? Very well... Undying, I summon thee! Gather around to meet these fellow believers!" More figures appeared from the surrounding shadows, lurching, limping, drawling, hovering... An unholy alliance of the undead and the demonkin arrived at the steps of the Forsaken Temple. "It has been a year since my resurrection by Abraxas, and I've been gathering these loyal followers ever since. Some are corpses of the ancient servants of this temple before it was sunken to the ground, some were drifters that met an untimely death and a new life by my hand. There are even a few lesser demons summoned here by Abraxas. If you are interested to know, it was I who awakened the Proud One some fifteen years ago, when I stumbled upon this temple. A grimoire that has been passed down the Ziegfried family line led me here. After some persuasion, my husband Zed agreed to help me. He was intrigued by the demonic arts as well, but never as much as I. Alas, Abraxas did not bend to my will back then, but saw me as a threat. The archdemon decided that Zed was a better puppet to his cause, so he slew me in front of the eyes of my husband and my daughter Chesterine. I never forget the look on her face... It was the last thing I saw before I died. She should not have been there..." The crowd of undead was growing restless. "But enough talk. Do you see your comrades here? This... Shaun?" Suddenly a small boy dashed in between the heroes and the Undying. "Dooo nooth huuurt my frieeendh!" the boy howled. "Shaun! There you are!" The boy turned around to meet his best friend eye to eye, and Guts' suspicions turned out to be correct. "Sküüülddh! Gooo awaaayy! Daaangeroushh hheeere!" "But I came to find you! Come with us." "Iii caaan'tth. Muuustth obeeeyy..." The zombie boy and the nôrn girl stared at each other. Then Sküld turned to the party in despair, with tears in her eyes. "Please, you must do something! Help me get Shaun out of here!" What will the party do? Quote

If I reverse Helvetia's blessing, the boy will wither away in seconds. Who needs life with all those pesky bodily functions and diseases when you can exist in this higher state of being, devoid of everything mundane?" "Skuld, am I assuming correctly that your little friend hasn't always been that way?" "What way? That's Shaun right there! We must get out of here with him before the skeleton lady gets angry!" "My patience is running thin. Now prove that you are true followers of Zoot and join us. You must willingly give up your lives so that the conversion is successful. If you resist or hesitate, I cannot guarantee that you will be resurrected with everything... intact." What will the party do? Quote
Scubacarrot Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 "Grrm. One of you mages, trap the kid in a rock shell, or ice or whatever, we'll have to help him later, perhaps we can bring him to the Bonapartes, maybe they can do that trick again..." Guts spat on the floor, and said: "You know, you really believed me? You are dumber than you look, and you look dumb, with that excuse for make up." Guts pulls out his throwing dagger, glowing with the light of the diamond, and his Lifestealer in his other hand. Slowly, and with a sense of foreboding, Guts spoke: "You awaken demons. Your madness caused your own child to turn batshit, and caused your own husband to die. You are the cause for so much suffering, and now you turned this child into the mindless undead, along with whoever else is here. I have fought your kind before, mages that go insane for the power they crave. You are the impersonation of EVERYTHING I am against. You know, the truth is, that you are weak, you take your power from the suffering of others. You must be purged. I don't know if the undead can feel pain, but I will try my best. Zoot can go piss himself." Quote

Zoot can go piss himself." Sycamore Ziegfried shakes her skull. "Again it comes down to this. You just cannot accept the facts, can you? You living may wriggle all you want, but in the end Zoot will prevail. He always finds a way to return, he is indomitable. This temple got buried under rock and waves over a thousand years ago by the forces of Ennon when they sunk the entire kingdom of Mercution into the Crystalline Sea. Yet here it still stands, protected by Zoot's blessing. Zoot is in no hurry, and neither are we Undying. We've got all the time in the world. But that does not mean I will stand it when pretenders sully the name of Zoot!" The necromancer raises her staff. "Abraxas was not the only archdemon sealed to this temple. There were three of them left here to guard it, and two more are still dormant inside. You may defeat me and my flock, but can you oppose an archdemon? We shall see about that... I summon thee, Mephisto! Prince of Gluttony, awaken from your slumber and rise to defeat the infidels!" The ground begins to grumble, and suddenly all the heat is gone from the cave. Chills run down the heroes' spines, and not just because of the sudden coldness. A gut-wrenching moan fills the cave as an icy-white shape rises from the ruins. Towering almost as high as the temple itself, the archdemon steps over the walls, crushing a few skeletons under its massive foot. It's piercing blue eyes scan the surroundings. When it speaks, the voice rings inside everyone's head. "WAS I AWAKENED FOR THIS WORTHLESS HANDFUL OF MORTALS? I, MEPHISTO, WHO USED TO DEVOUR ANGELS OF ENNOC FOR A LIGHT SNACK BEFORE THIS WORLD WAS EVEN BORN? I MAY BE WEAK FROM MY THOUSAND YEAR SLUMBER, BUT THIS IS LAUGHABLE! I AM THOROUGHLY INSULTED!" "Consider this a mere chance to stretch your muscles, my Prince. Abraxas would be grateful if you got rid of these pests while he is away." "ABRAXAS?! BAH! This means that if for example a Fire Bomb is thrown on the first turn, the Pheles Rod will receive 16 times 10 damage, 160 damage in total. Also note that you can only damage undead enemies with elemental weapons, items and spells. Good luck on this final showdown of the quest! Quote

Sandy Posted October 24, 2012 Author Posted October 24, 2012 Question, if the rod is defeated, will an attack that hits all enemies damage Shaun? QM Note: Yes, but the battle won't end until all the other enemies are defeated. It's all about choices. Remember that the promised reward for the quest is 1 gold each, so failing the quest only affects the story aspect. Quote
