DarkKnight7 Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 (edited) Hey everyone, So, here is another custom I made this past summer, this one of Maximus Decimus Meridius, Russell Crowe's character from the Oscar winning "Gladiator" film...my personal favorite film of all time. I did the decaling and took pics, earlier this year, but I was never happy with the face. I was going to redo the face when I finished with all the Dark Knight designs, but those took MUCH longer than I had anticipated and I am now back to much busy levels with my job and don't see anytime in the near future where I might be able to improve it. I'm hoping later this fall it might slow down enough to rework this one to my own level of satisfaction, so I'll call it a Work In Progress for now. I was also hoping to do a design of Emperor Commodus, but never got around to doing it, though I'd love to attempt to design his torso! So, thought I'd share how the first round of the face design process went, and hopefully post later this year an updated face for this. You really have a very good talent in capturing the real life character looks into custom minifig form! From Willy Wonka to the TDKR characters and now Maximus the Gladiator - this fig sure does look like Russell Crowe! My only suggestion, if I may, is to make the beard under the cheeks "thicker"/add a few more 'hair prints' on that part. But as it is, it already looks great, some slight tweaks and it would be perfect! Quote

But then, when I applied it to the head and saw the finished product, is when I realized just how thick the beards need to be. I have a pretty clear idea for how to redo the beard, but as stated on the top, just need more time to do it! Glad you liked it, and I hope to update it and post some pics sometime in the future....and hopefully with Commodus too! Quote
charlieboy Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 I think he looks fantastic! The detailing on the chest is really very good! The only thing i'd try to do differently is maybe some detailing on the backs of his legs? He looks like he's kind of flashing his backside at the mo! Is it possible to apply decals to the rear sections of legs? I guess it would be pretty tough? Either way keep up the geat work Quote
