Aredhel Posted December 26, 2006 Posted December 26, 2006 Hey all!!! For Christmas I got two Megabloks sets of the Pirates of the Caribbean! Here the review for 1012 - Davy Jones: First I will show you an overall view of the build set: The set includes only one figure, Davy Jones. Its made really good IMO because the face and the clothes are very similar to the movie. The boat is not very interesting as you can see at the overview picture. Very good was the chest IMO: It includes gold and silver coins AND the little chest of Davy Jones heart . You cannot open the little chest, but it looks really great!!! Hope you like this little review even though it is not Lego :-P !!! More pictures on my gallery!!! Greetings, Aredhel Quote
El Bucanero Posted December 26, 2006 Posted December 26, 2006 Yuck the colours of his face don't match the movie at all! Although the fig itself doesn't look so bad... ~I don't like the boat... The gold coins look like raisins to me :-P The Dead man's chest look pretty cool. I don't like mega bloks at all! but this is quite a good review... Which other set did you get? Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted December 26, 2006 Governor Posted December 26, 2006 For Christmas I got two Megabloks sets of the Pirates of the Caribbean! Hmmm... Who gave you those? Its not who I think it is - is it? X-D Quote

The second one I got is the Black Pearl!!! I have to take pictures and I will make a review of it later. I do not like Megabloks, too, but the Black Pearl is really not bad as you will see soon. Here one first overview picture: Hmmm... Who gave you those? Its not who I think it is - is it? Yes, it is exactly that one person you are thinking of X-D -Aredhel Quote

Evil Willy Posted December 26, 2006 Posted December 26, 2006 Well I wouldn't buy any megablocks. But those looks pretty decent! Quote
oo7 Posted December 26, 2006 Posted December 26, 2006 The Black Pearl looks like a decent model art wise, but I would never get it even if it was offered to me for free because I can't integrate it or temporarily substitute it with my favorite hobby. The details look nice but that's all due to the horrendously junorized pieces. Davy looks ugly (uglier than the movie version that is, which is worse not better) and the plastic quality is probably garbage. Sorry for my relentless bashing but I'm strongly purist, I barely accept decals although I do like Brickarms, but that is the furthermost extent of my tolerance. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted December 27, 2006 Governor Posted December 27, 2006 :-$ Don't feel ashamed, I completely understand because its not really your fault. I know if The LEGO Company were producing SYSTEM Pirate LEGO sets you would have definitely given her those instead, but since that wasn't a viable option Megabloks were the next best thing. Well, the best "substitute" since we can't really compare the Megabloks Pyrates and MegaBloks Pirates of the Caribbean themes to SYSTEM Pirate LEGO. Quote
snefroe Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 well i find these sets horrible, to be honest. you can only play with it as children do, there's hardly anything you can build; the plastic looks terrible... hm... not my cup of tea... Quote

Lol, that calls for a Mega Blok Alternate Build challenge... X-D Maybe a starfighter.... Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted December 27, 2006 Eurobricks Emperor Posted December 27, 2006 Thank Aredhel for showing these sets. It makes it clear to me that I never will buy any Megablocks. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted December 28, 2006 Governor Posted December 28, 2006 Megabloks seems more similar to PlayMobil than it does to LEGO. So now I be wondering what is the potential for building alternate models if other Megablok sets are utilised? Quote
oo7 Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 Lol, that calls for a Mega Blok Alternate Build challenge... X-D Maybe a starfighter.... Maybe a pirate ship shaped star fighter..... X-D I am curius to the number of pieces in the hull and masts... Megabloks seems more similar to PlayMobil than it does to LEGO. So now I be wondering what is the potential for building alternate models if other Megablok sets are utilised? Yes, lately Mega Bloks has become less of a building toy and more of a play set toy... The more recent 'Dragons', 'Pyrates' and Marvel Lines are just as hideous. Although a couple years ago they had these 'Probuilder' sets, the Mega Bloks equivilent of UCS, which had fairly good designs with a good amount of basic bricks. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 well i find these sets horrible, to be honest. you can only play with it as children do, there's hardly anything you can build; the plastic looks terrible... hm... not my cup of tea... I agree completely. These are horrible. I should start posting Playmobil Pirate reviews. At least the quality is very high and the design is good. Here's a sample: Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted December 29, 2006 Governor Posted December 29, 2006 How many Playnmobil Pirate sets do you own, Brickster? Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted December 30, 2006 Posted December 30, 2006 How many Playnmobil Pirate sets do you own, Brickster? I've got a few. The original (or early pirate ship), one of the pirate islands, pirate prison, another smaller ship, and a few of the smaller sets. I thought Playmobil's pirate theme was pretty good. I mixed them with castle like old Playmobil images. Maybe I will do a review one day. I sill have most of my collection in moving boxes. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted January 2, 2007 Governor Posted January 2, 2007 Its about that time I start wondering how well would this work with real LEGO, like used in a MOC for example? Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 Oh, that's horrible. It seems that Mega Bloks has issues with varying shades of the same color as well. It's just too cheap looking. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted January 2, 2007 Governor Posted January 2, 2007 I see your point... But what of the accessories? Do they have any potential in LEGO MOCs? Quote
Scouty Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 For me, I would never mix Lego and Megabloks. The accesories, however, they do you have some potential to be with Lego. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 These: I don't think so. Aside from the cheap plastic, they look so much different than Lego. They are much darker and more realistic looking (in comparison to Lego). They just don't match. Quote
Scouty Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 That's one thing I like about lego. It's not realistic. Curves and such are pretty much rare, i.e. those gold pieces vs. lego's pieces. Detail is not practiced to much into lego. Yet there is still detail in there. Quote
