Cyrtanthus Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 Here's what was missing: 60013 - Coast Guard Helicopter 60024 - Advent Calender 60026 - Town Square Glad to see the Summer CITY 2013 List is finally all out and even Preview(Leaked) Pictures before the Year is up.....only hiccup is that we are going to have to wait till August..September...October 2013 for the 2014 Lineup....lets hope the City Train Line is updated before then?!?!?! LEGO should leak an image every two weeks.....Create the News...in future!!! Quote
Graysmith Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 I love seeing so many upcoming sets that aren't Police/Fire, though I wish the cargo plane was something more along the lines of last year's police helicopter (4439), something more brick-built and chunkier.. Maybe something like a C-119. That'd feel much more fun and appropriate for a cargo plane than the sleek airliner model they're using. Quote
Jargo Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 The Cargo heliplane is nice and different though. And it has a new piece for the cockpit/nose with split windows and a fat round look. It looks to be based on a CV-22 Osprey. Quote
danimarroquin Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 I really like the idea of the CV 22 osprey as a cargo plane , but still we are short of a cargo terminal for the airport . Any images of the last 3 sets to be reveal ??? Quote

When I was a kid I was short of a lot of Lego things I thought I needed. Then one day I discovered that you can hack Lego, by taking the bricks out of one model, and using them to build another model. In fact you can build anything you like, limited only by the number of bricks you have, and your imagination. I am pretty certain that this is "against the rules" and not at all what Lego intend you to do. It certainly diminishes the value of your collection (which should really be kept in unopened boxes and never ever played with). But all the same it's a neat hack. This is probably one of the most refreshing comments I have heard on this forum in a while, it would be nice if a certain element in the community (collectors) garnered the ability to conceptualise that LEGO is a highly adaptable creative medium that can used to build a wide variety of creations. That way if LEGO doesn't make what they want then they can make it themselves, alas though some people find it hard to grasp the concept of using their imagination and a bit of creativity. snefroe Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 in the mean time, the firefighting theme has arrived in Belgium... I bought the 60002 fire truck, it kinda reminds me of 6366. in all, it's a really great set... Quote

While I agree, the most important thing for me regarding new sets is part availability. The problem with these sets is the constant supply of red and god-awful transparent light blue. Maturation of the themes would result in more variation in the palette. Quote

True I will give you that in that it would nicer if there was more colour variety, but at least it's a far sight better than the Trans Green and Trans Dark Blue that I had to contend with in City sets when I came out of my Dark Ages in 2001, oh the horror of it all. jonwil Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Regarding the cargo plane, if you look at the big international cargo and parcel companies, most of the airplanes they use are freighter/cargo conversions/models of passenger jets like the Boeing 747F freighter and the Airbus A330F freighter. Most cargo planes therefore have the same sleek look as the passenger jets. Now LEGO could have done a cargo plane based on a larger chunkier military transport like the C-130 Hercules, C-17 Globemaster or C-5 Galaxy but they wouldn't have been as attractive to the core audience as a sleek jet plane... Im really tired of this lego wide body planes , they don't look like the real thing at all , and it sucks that the planes is only 9 pieces and that's it . There is not a large building on it , and the wings do not have any dihadrel at all !!! Something so important in today's aviation with the good looking aerodinnamical winglets at the end of the wings . C mon Lego you can do better on this big. planes , we can design something where I can see the pilots on the side and front like a normal plane , design new wings that look like a Airbus wing . A wing where I can fit my four engines or 2 big massive engines like today's planes " 777 " . With movebable wings and flaps for landing , a plane where I can get a rectratible landing gear . Moreover , desing. a 747 that opens the nose to load extra cargo , including and good cargo loader that looks like the real thing . Hope the Lego team goes to the airport and design planes and airports that look like the real thing , defitnally on the expert side would be nice to have a model that really gets all this points . Does any body agree with me for a airport modular to be made ?? That would be nice to see in the years to come ! Edited January 1, 2013 by danimarroquin Quote

That new front piece certainly looks a lot like a Sea King type of helicopter, to the point where I would think the piece was actually created for a new coast guard helicopter, and then they also made that whacky Cargo Heliplane to get more use out of the new mold. Jargo Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 (edited) No it doesn't, it's an entirely new piece that is rounded rather than pointed like the two existing plane noses. The heliplane cockpit also has split windows not a panoramic window. Edited January 1, 2013 by Jargo Quote
legoboy3998 Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Tell that to Playmobil... Speaking of Playmobil, I picked up a recent Playmobil cagalog the other day to page through. It is funny, most of the things mentioned on here that people want, Playmobil makes... Making one wonder if it is marketable to playmobile, why does LEGO think it isn't. I also noticed a lot of similarities between to two companies in terms of products. Sal WFB, WI Quote

I also noticed a lot of similarities between to two companies in terms of products. Sal WFB, WI One reason is the toy has very strong cross-gender appeal, especially in its city lines. Further, the larger size and dollhouse-like aspect of Playmobil makes things like huge hospitals, schools and hotels work better. That said, I still think zoo sets could work very well with LEGO City. Two of the new Playmobil lines being introduced for 2013 - Camping and Swiss Alps - I also think could work with LEGO. But in 2013 Playmobil is also releasing a shopping mall theme (no pics yet), and, again, that requires a dollhouse-like playability aspect to work. Though maybe Friends will have a flagship mall set one day. It is getting a school this year, after all. Quote

Agreed looking at the cockpit of the Cargo Tiltrotor it does look very much like a new mould, it reminds me in some ways of a Sea King cockpit. Making one wonder if it is marketable to playmobile, why does LEGO think it isn't. I also noticed a lot of similarities between to two companies in terms of products. Sal WFB, WI In many respects Playmobil is one of LEGOs largest competitors especially when it comes to the toy market in Germany, this why you will see a lot of similarities with themes that the two companies run. Regarding the Cargo Jet one thing a lot of people are not taking into consideration is the fact a Playmobil plane is a complete item when it is pulled out of the box, LEGO planes on the other hand have to be constructed using a decent number of parts, hence the Playmobil item is far more robust when it comes to play compared to a LEGO one. This also gives Playmobil the ability to incorporate features that if they were translated into LEGO would make a set that would break or fall apart easily. When designing sets the LEGO design team has to ensure that their builds are durable enough to withstand the rigours of play of their core market, having a highly detailed yet fragile build is something that us AFOLs crave for but in the hands of an 8 year old boy who is crying to his parents that his Cargo Plane keeps falling apart does not give a good impression to the general consumer and could put them off purchasing products in the future. paul_delahaye Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 lol, set 30222 another police helicopter in a polybag for 2013! Does that make the tally of helicopters for 2013 10 in total? Quote

Though maybe Friends will have a flagship mall set one day. It is getting a school this year, after all. In regards to the "dollhouse-like" aspect, I disagree. The only real difference between the Playmobile and LEGO buildings, is Playmobile has adopted a modular concpt. (i.e. you can connect different sets to make larger buildings.) LEGO has offered hospitals, police stations, fire stations, houses, etc. I think the only real reason the Plymobile sets look bigger, is scale, Playmobile figures are huge compared to LEGO minifigures. The other thing is, where LEGO makes one set, Playmobile makes a whole theme. Case in point, the Playmobile School. LEGO would not need to make the whole school as one set. Make the classroom a set, the gym a set, the cafateria a set. Than take a hint from the modular line and make them conncetable with technic pins and stackable, and you have a school that can be as big or small as you want. You can do the same with a house theme (i.e. Friends, LEGO has made plenty of sets, but if they added floors and walls to many of them you could build a large house.) Same would work for a mall, zoo, hospital, etc. Sal WFB, WI Quote
