lightningtiger Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 In the town square box art, the overlap of the sword in the foreground and awning in the background gives the appearance of the statue holding a cross! That is an optical illusion......the sword crossing over the roof over the pizza bar's front door. Quote
Faefrost Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Is it just the architect in me or is using a revolving door on a bike shop a bad design? I mean how in the world could a person bring in/out his/her bike through a revolving door when it's already tedious to do so on a normal door? The previous small bike shop in city corner did it right by offering a wide opening. Thank you! This question was nagging at me but I didn't want to seem strange by asking it. Quote
lightningtiger Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Now like I wrote yesterday the bike shop is more of a clothing shop and the 2009 bike shop was more a simple mechanical workshop for bikes.....you could line both up side by side. Quote

Good Idea, It does look like a clothing shop and thats what Im going to turn it into. It will be a trendy surf clothing shop on one of my beaches. Quote

shadowhearth Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 (edited) I think a major reason buses don't tend to appear as smaller, independent sets is because the main play value in a bus comes from it carrying passengers, and generally only the largest sets have a large number of minifigures to act as passengers. A bus set with just a driver and one or two passengers would seem kind of silly. I can't really agree with this. When I was a child I loved building buses and even more playing with them. These days we get even more awesome pieces to make buses cool! Maybe I was a weird kid and my friends were weirdos, but a lot of us loved to play buses in one or another form. Being bus driver was one of my dream professions ( I know sad :) ). So all in all I personally think that busses have huge playability value! As for costs, I don't really think it is that much more expensive to make bus sets. You don't need a Ton of minifigs for those sets too! 3 are more then enough. People should stop valuing how good sets are by the minifig count. I already got more then enough of them. Specially when we are talking about non licensed city stuff! I wish they would make more public transport style sets. Edited April 16, 2013 by shadowhearth Quote

Being bus driver was one of my dream professions ( I know sad :) ). You and me both then fella! I played at buses when I was very young and then took it a step forward and worked part-time as a bus/coach driver for ten years and then full time as a coach driver for four years... Don't do it any more in real life but LEGO buses and coaches are always an important feature for me! As for costs, I don't really think it is that much more expensive to make bus sets. A bus, three minifigs and a bus shelter would be just fine and would hit the same price point as the 2013 truck range. Cheers Rog Edited April 16, 2013 by rriggs Quote
mikka says Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 In my opinion, its nice to see this set appear and I'd be keen to atleast purchase one, but, I'm a bit miffed as others are that they try to push the pizza and bike shops again, there could be so many different possibilities to spice them up, for example, that pizza shop could be a sandwich bar with little attractive 1x1 sandwiches. The bus, if Lego played its cards right, could be incorporated into a train station.... But, I have the old city corner from '09, it's a guilty pleasure to buy this set, besides, two competing pizza shops in Lego city..... ;) Quote
kermit Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Given that this town set was in the same diorama as the gas station is it a possibility that the gas station can be a late summer release? The statue is a nice touch but if feels out of place without a baseplate to make it the center piece of this town. Maybe some potted plants or flowers with a bench around the statue would of given this set that town center feeling. Despite that its a good change in the usual city line up. speaking of that the sidewalks of the pizza shop and bike shop dont really line up that well since the bike shop's sidewalk is a lot wider. I must say though that lego was spot on in including 8 minifigures. A driver for the sweeper, bus and crane, a worker for both shops; which leaves 3 minifigures to do various activities. I would of rather another minifigure than the dog though. Quote
L@go Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Like others have said before - not necessarily in this topic, but in others where this has been discussed: The gas station will not be released. It's not a set, but a MOC made by one of the designers. I know, because one of the designers told me at LEGO World in Copenhagen. Quote
lightningtiger Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Yes, that gas station was a miss-fire wasn't it eh ? I'm wondering if Lego are expected us AFOL's to take town square and MOC or at least modify their designs to learn from us new ideas ? Quote
Zzz Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Sorry if this's been mentioned but all the sets from the hi-res pics are available on European s@h now! Quote
The_Creator Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 60015 looks awesome, and 60024 looks tempting, I'll have to see what my funds look like after LotR, The Hobbit, Castle, Lone Ranger, and Creator. This year's City sets are shaping up to be a nice selection! Oh, and those headphone look really sweet. Quote
shadowhearth Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 I still did not got a answer for this: when can we expect summer range go up for sale? I am/really itching for those two new trucks! Quote
AlaPo Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Thank you very much for the pictures, whug! I have a question - the town square is gonna be an exsclusive set, or like a usual in summer line? Thank you. Quote
Aussie BJ Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 I still did not got a answer for this: when can we expect summer range go up for sale? I am/really itching for those two new trucks! If there in the S&H cache you'd think it wouldn't be too long. But I'm not holding my breathe in Australia till at least July when the mid year toys sales are on. I hope they aren't exclusive to certain stores. Quote
Ferdik Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 I liked the new Octan station very much - because it's having a realistic aura which certainly is not the case with the ones from Town Square - specially that pizza shop from outer space. And now I read the gas station is only a design study which will not be released! It's a cruel world! Quote

Aussie BJ Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 I cant wait so long! July is so far away!!!!!! *acts like spoiled 27 year old kid!!! Well this 36 (I think, maybe 37 lost count) can't wait either. Lucky the Shell Ferrari cars are being released so can get some kind of lego fix at the moment. Quote
glendo Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Ah, yes Town Square for me....though a giant crane in it.......a smaller one with a delivery truck to carry the statue on would have been a little more realistic. I'm wondering what Lego's idea is behind bike shops and pizza bars all the time ? Plus I can't wait for those racing transporters....both of them......new tool wheels ! (about time !.....the one we have now came out in the mid-1990's) LT... the Octan racing transporters gave me an idea... we could have a MOC F1 team building comp if people are interested?? Quote
Stoo73 Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 It's always good to see classic sets revisited and reimagined for a modern audience. Quote

antp Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 (edited) I think the better question is how the heck do you get the bike down from the second floor. That's why they included a crane in the set! There is a lot of people loving the bus but personally I don't get it. I don't think the bus looks good with the train doors at all & in my opinion, the yellow bus from City Corner is far superior to the red bus. Does anyone care to give a reason why they prefer the red bus over the yellow one from City Corner? I do not like the use of the big glass doors for a bus: - they are too high (6 bricks in height rather than 5) - such full glass door is not realistic for a bus: they either have half-width glass doors (and even then not always completely glass), or full width opening (or usually sliding) door with a frame (not so much glass) like the train door of that new red bus, hence why I prefer the new bus. Edited April 18, 2013 by antp Quote
lightningtiger Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Very true about the scaling of the doors on the bus....hence the reasoning behind Lego using the old train doors as bus doors. Quote
Phazon Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 I agree with those who don't like the city square, apart from the blue colored windows and the lack of details in certain places, I don't think that these buildings belong together in the way they are supposed to be. The Bike Shop lacks interior, it feels cold and empty, while the bus is too red for my liking. It's just that it isn't realistic anymore. The only thing I intended to buy was the Petrol Station, which is a MOC... And I think that the combination of a bus and a couple buildings and minifigs is just a marketing technique. The idea behind this seems to be that people want the bus and pay for the whole set, the sets sells for a higher price, so that Lego can make an even higher profit out of it. Quote
